So i am trying to decide whether i should make the 10 hour trip to gamesday or play in a local tournament, i have never been to gamesday before so i have no idea what is going to happen there, i know there is something to do with a big cannon, and i can get a skaven model that is the model for this year but that is pretty much it

Unless you are going to compete in the Gold Demon, I would save my money and come back in April for Adepticon.* Games Day is not really aimed at folks who have been in the hobby for years and years.

*Biased opinion....

No, absolutely not.
But if you want to meet some GW 'celebrities', go there.

These kinds of questions are so absolutely loaded it's not even funny.

We can't decide on a value for something for you.

Do you want to go? Then go. If you don't want to go or think it may not be worth the money--then don't go.

I suspect Kan,that the OP is simply attempting to get others points of view based on their experiences with gamesday events so that he can make a more informed decision as to weather of not to go.
...Sort of like asking someone if a film is any good....or what the food at a restaurant is like.

It's not a loaded question to ask for other opinions before making a decision.

Then it's better to ask "Is it worth the time?" not "Is it worth the money?", in my opinion.

If you have to choose between a 10 hour trip and buying a ticket at the door v. a local tournament--the local tournament wins, every time.

If you make the plans in advance to go, and not just go solely for Games Day--it's a much more enjoyable experience.

I can say right now, if I had gone to just Games Day Baltimore for a few years...I would have regretted it every time. But planning to go to Baltimore's aquarium, then Annapolis and the Naval Academy, and all the other activities in/around Baltimore--it made the experience by and large more memorable.

Agreed, any "gaming related" trip that involves traveling more than a few hours from your location should include other "non gaming" activities..this way even if your gaming experience is a wash, you can still enjoy the rest of the trip.
Now, speaking for myself...I no longer bother with traveling for gaming events ( never appealed to me that much to begin with), so personaly Gamesday wouldn't be " worth it".

If you do end up going, look for the very tired group running a huge game with a 12' long Chaos ship crashing the Dark Eldar webways. We're painting furiously and finishing scenery before we make the 12 hour drive to Chicago.

For someone new to the hobby, it's definitely worth it.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I buy quite a lot of forgeworld stuff so thats my main reason for going, to save on delivery charges, plus I like the event only minis and I won't pay £30 for something on ebay that is a tenner from FW direct. Plus im nosey and I like to get a proper look at whats coming out from FW/WF in the next year and talk to the guys doing the making and designing, I also like to get books signed from the BL authors. I go with my 2 best friends so we always have a laugh whatever happens I prob wouldnt go if they didnt though.

In summary; Go if you wanna pick up some FW/WF bits, Go if you have mates to go with, I do recommend entering Golden daemon competition as it gets you into the hall earlier

if you go, then definitely enter golden demon. Here in UK, it allows for hour early entry into golden demon and other licensed stuff halls. This includes talking with all the expert painters about anything and most gw 'celebrities' will be in these halls. If you've never been before then it's worth going.

But, like others said; if it's a 10 hour trip then make it a long weekend and do some sightseeing to make it worth it.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts
