Daemon Princes are traditionally viewed to be the best HQ we Chaos generals have to lead our armies. But its really up to personally taste, some like Abby or Kharn, others Sorcerers, etc. Temies or Chosen are the "best" elites.

Now troops are the most diverse. PM are the toughest, KB the best in CC, NM the shootiest, CSM the jack of all trades. Once again, whatever you like, same goes for HS. Oblits kill everything, tanks, meq, termies, you name it. Other popular choices like Vinidies or Defilers, both excellent horde controllers as well as meq killers.

like Stileprojekt said, look at the forums and you'll get a better idea.

In fact, two winged DPs, GD, Chosen in a Rhino, CSM and PM squads in Rhinos, and about 6 Obliterators is the way to go.

Personally, unless you go with lucius or kharn, I think the HQ selection is better spent on a demon prince. I like your troops, but you need more. In objective based missions, i feel numbers & firepower beat out tough but expensive units like terminators & posesses every day. In the old chaos rulebook (irrelevant now I know) I played as alpha legion so my wholearmy coupd infiltrate for 1 point per guy. I was all regular chaos marines, 3 units of devastators, 5 men each, 2 units w/ 4 heavy bolters, one unit w/ 2 lazcannons, 2 missile launchers, & tank hunters.

Even in the new codex though, I think devastators & obliterators are the best heavys, regular chaos marines, khorne berzerkers or MAYBE plague marines if you need the staying power (beats the heck out of terminators for point value if you ask me).

I don't really like possessed, personally, I'd rather have a unit of chosen (maybe if you really feel such a point heavy unit will prove particularly useful) maybe even chosen terminators with a
sorceror with winds of chaos & warptime.

For ueavy firepower per unit, devastators & obliterators are king, but noise marines & thousand suns are very good too, It's pinning small blast from the blastmaster vs AP 3 bolters for a whole squad.

edit: Sorry about the spelling, I was pretty drunk.

Abaddon is a great character but hes a whole lot of points. I think hes really only worth it if you run him with a retinue of Terminators. I cant tell you how many times though I've seen people deep strike Abaddon in with Termies and then lose him though. So I think if you do use him with a retinue of Termies the Landraider is a must.

Daemon Princes are honestly the best HQ option you have as a Chaos player. For what you get for how many points they are, its extremely worth it.

abby is an amazing character that is alot of points, but do not run him with terminators.... heres why: chaos terminators are not fearless, and even though abby is he will lose the special rule because his squad isnt. if they get beat in combat (abby can always roll a 1) and fail their leadership, your super expensive squad will get ran off the table..... it doesnt matter how good abby is if hes running towards your table edge!!

instead run him with 8 khorne berzerkers, and enjoy!!

Actually very good point on that. I agree 100% there. I forgot that Chaos Terminators aren't fearless. Thats an extremely good point.

Winged DPs are the best bet in smaller point games, while in larger battles you might lose them too early.
Abbadon is mean in cc. As said elsewhere, Possessed make up a good body guard for him.

possessed? what? they are AWFUL!! if your running abby your running him in a land raider, possessed have 2 possibilities that are worthless in a raid. fleet and scout i think??? and one of them does NOTHING!!! they are also much more expensive!! run 8 berzerkers champ with power weapon and throw them in the raider with abby.

Abbodon is so worth it. I saw him and 4 terminators walk through 2 GK squads of terminators. He is such a beast in combat. He was getting an average of 9-11 attacks with his str 8 weapon that can reroll wounds(I do believe)Codex not on hand). Now I would not take him in anything less then 2k, because he is expensive. but if you want terminators he can be a great asset. just don't DS him. Land Raider is a must

what if those termies had paris of lighning claws and were upgraded to champions...thats compensation for if abby rolls a one.

personally i hate khorne beserkers (your feilding orks in power armour for 21pts a model).
