Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Beefy warrior "Tactical" squads.
Strong assault unit. (if obviously in need of getting it's transport shot down)
Lots 'o Darklight
Lots 'o poison

Normally guard trumps DE but this list everything stomps Guard flat in close quarters fighting.

Factor in 3 missions with night fight and I think this could be a winner....

Correct. Despite countless millennia of evolution, technological advances and civilization, we're still monkeys throwing feces at things we don't like.-Zed.

Flicker fields on the Incubi raider is a bit much considering it can flat-out 24" + 2d6. That's min. 26" - max 36", majority of the guns toted nowadays are either 48" or 24". The typical 24" shots have an average 6" move, so if you start 7" deep in your deployment zone you are out of their range regardless and still with the flat out in your turn are in their face, while the 48" guns will hit you regardless, unless of course you're playing the corner to corner game with your opponent. Couple that with a -6" from the night shields and you should be good. The main point is that the other (less important) raiders should be in front of the incubi raider to give it an obscured cover save, same concept as putting rhinos in front of razors. Deploy using the terrain and other planes and you shouldn't find that 5+ cover that you paid for coming into play very often.

I would recommend you drop the flicker field on that one (incubi) raider to bump the other Wyches Hekatrix's power weapon to an agoniser this way they are a (near) duplicate of the other squad and both can tackle whatever needbe.

Not much point on night shields because if you can shoot something then something can shoot back i.e lascannon at Ravagers.

How you finding grisly trophies? I investigated them but they only re-roll leadership tests, not morale, which is more important.

I wouldn't also take the power weap on the Kabalite Warrior units. S3 power weap isn't that good unless taking loads of them in a unit.

Disagree, in certain senses. While this is normally true, and the advent of GK rifleman only add hurt this theory, when you're dancing around threat ranges by inches, and splitting sides or refuse flanking, coming in from reserve on flanks, etc. that -6 can make all the difference between a tank going down or not, and for the points costed for the upgrade, once it happens a few times you'll deem it invaluable.

With the big uprising in Grey Knights it's even moreso important (especially in Ard Boyz since we should see a lot of them) with the abundance of psycannons. If you can skirt around the 31-36" mark (5" of leeway should be eye-ballable) you can play the sides of squads and hit them while they are out of range from you.

In the end, it all boils down to how well one can eye-ball distances and use the angles/ranges to their advantage, so your mileage may vary.

Night shields in your example are only good against a mid ranged army, Grey Knights. You won't be playing Grey Knights all the time, there is other armies out there. There's no point talioring the army and taking night shields because it's important because of Grey Knights.

As mentioned long range anti tank will be going for the Ravagers which will still reach them as the Ravagers need to come into range to fire anyway.

Just because I used Grey Knights as an example, does not mean it only pertains to them and is list tailoring. Take into effect the abundance of T-L plas of Razors, Assault Cannons, bolters, multi-meltas, etc. Making them 6" less is quite an advantage because it can pull units into less favorable spots on the board just to try and hit your raider.

Save for GK rifleman, the biggest fear my planes have are multi-shot / mid-strength / mid-field weapons such as the above. One lascannon or missile shot does not put scare into me, ok he pens on a 2+, if I'm in cover I still have a 4+ cover save making his high strength still only a 50/50 chance. Now when someone is pumping multiple shots into me (3/4 come to mind), I'm probably going to be rolling more than once, thus a higher chance for him to get through my saves.

In regards to lascannons and missiles, consider yourself playing a spearhead deployment game, opponent is a gunline and is wins the roll and chooses to go first. With night shields you don't have to go full reserve and punk out on first turn anymore. You can stack the corner and with that -6" he will be out of range unless he deploys his heavy guns 12" from the center, which is HIGHLY unlikely to see someone do that especially with Vect people will put caution first and deploy defensively for fear they get seized on. Now he's positioned himself out of shots first turn and effectively limited his abilities.

Ultimately it comes down to playstyles and game experiences. When I use them, I use them to great effect and reap benefits. Maybe you had a rough go when you tried them? A lot of factors weigh in to what's worth it and what isn't depending on the player.
