Hello all, I have been thinking about possibly using an Emperor's Children Chaos Marine army, and I was wondering which mark would be the best for them?

(I don't got the codex on hand right now, but I have the reference sheet in front of me, so please just inform me if their stuck with a specific one and don't yell at me )

I was thinking perhaps the Mark of Tzeenetch since they already have a great range with their sonic rifles and Blastmasters?  An extra wound and Fearless sound pretty awesome to me even if they will be walking pretty slow while shooting. . . But thats what Fast Attack units are for!!!

Well, considering that Emperor's Children have to be equipped with the Mark of Slannesh, your choice is already made. Done and done.

Arg, one of two I really don't like. . .
Is there anyway to get other types of chaos marines their wonderful weapons?

Nope, sorry.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Whats wrong with the Slannesh mark? If you play to the armies strengths, EC is the strongest of the four cult lists.

I know that most of all my opponents hate the bonuses givin by the mark of Slannesh.

Frankly I think its one of the weakest. . .

Nurgle: Suddenly you are extremely hard to insta kill, and are extremely resistant to most small arms fire, and true grit these all combine to make you very dangerous in hand to hand, and give you a better chance to get there. . .

Khornate: Fearless, Extra Attack, Basically gives you a fleet of foot

Slanesh: Enemies lose 1 initiative (doesn't stack however), fearless

Tzeenetch: Automatically pass all psychic tests for the Sorcerer, an extra wound !!!, Fearless, but you can't get veteran abilities like infiltrate or what ever. . .

My two favorites are Nurgle and Tzeenetch and basically is decided by either a krak missile or a plasma gun, Khornate follows a close 3rd but thats only because I like to shoot, Slanesh is last but I can see its uses and frankly Sonic rifles and Blastmasters should be counted as a major vote in favor of it. . .

Someone needs to read his codex better.

The +1 Toughness from the Mark of Nurgle does not count for determining whether or not a weapon causes instant death. Krak missiles still insta-kill models with the Mark of Nurgle.

Khorne: You get the fleet of foot, but it means you have to try to move towards and charge something you may not be able to hurt (land speeders can be the death of a khornate list).

Tzeentch: Everybody pays the same price that an IC does for his mark, and the extra wound doesn't apply to those models with sorcerer ability. Oh, you also get no special/heavy weapons in squads and get slow and purposeful.

Slaanesh: Every other MEQ army out there has to wait until after your marines attack in h2h. You basically hit before most other rank and file troops (and their characters are only hitting at the same time). The big bonus for slaanesh are the daemons though.

Don't forget that Khorne blood frenzy is only on a 1 or a 2. Its not an automatic option like fleet. Also you have no control over where you go, as others have stated, you might find yourself running towards something you cannot kill. Not to mention it cancels out the chance of using any heavy weapons that might be present.

Nurgle - as has already been stated does not help with insta-kill. Its a great help against bolters and other small arms fire, but as most lists don't use small arms as the main killing weapon, this isn't much help. Most shooting weapons that are AP3 and as such ignore armor are also going to be wounding T5 on a 2+ just like T4 marines. True grit isn't as big of a deal since all chaos marines have the option of taking bolt pistol and close combat weapon. In fact this is better as you get the +1 attack for having both weapons and +1 attack for charging. True grit does not remove the restriction of shooting a rapid fire weapon and not being able to assault. So you will not get as many chances to cause wounds as a model charging in with BP/CCW. However having said all of that, Nurgle is my second favorite mark behind Slannesh because you get access to some fun wargear and the army as a whole is real fun to convert and paint up.

Slannesh major advantages are combining fearless with the sonic weaponry. You will always get to use those expensive guns that you are paying for. You don't have to worry about being pinned or falling back and loosing the ability to use the gun to the fullest. And warp scream is just murder in close combat. The ability to pretty much go first is huge. Just ask any assault army player who uses furious charge. Striking first is where its at.

But to each their own. Good luck with whatever ruinious power you choose to follow. The Warp welcomes you.

Yeah, nobody said that Daemonettes are probably the best Warp inhabitants out there___they're the cheapest Rending source available, striking at effectively Ini5. My kind of gals (2+ mammary glands on each doesn't hurt either ;D !).

Why the hell did anyone bother answering this question?

JFC man... Ok, you obviously are in the market for a new army. Judging by the threads you have started and the posts I've seen you write, you have a good grasp of the core rules, but no clue on the armies, be it gaming aspects or fluff. EC's with a MOC other than Slaanesh? That's like me asking if I can give my Chimeara Machine Spirit upgrade or something else totally ridiculous.

The reference sheets are NOT a way to develop an army list. The codex is. Without a dex, army builder program is because atleast it will tell you what is illegal and why. Barring those, search the forums.

I remember the days of not buying a dex until I was sure I wanted the army. Thanks to GW changing the dex every few years and then making them smaller but more expensive, I can appreicate anyone who is like this. If buying a dex is your issue, BORROW a friend's for a while.

Come on man, you've got 4 threads between here and the List forum that are just plain wastes of space. They don't do anything for the community discussion wise. For these reasons, these posts should be locked at a minimum, or deleted (preferable)
