Hadn't actually got around to praising you on the Chaos dread and the overall great effect you've achieved on him and your latest batch of guys with that boney flesh. I think i see you went about it with washes?

The boney flesh reminds me of stuff from that old computer game 'Darkseed', which if memory serves had some genuine H.R. Giger designs in it.

The conversion is really seamless on the dread, it's almost like it's a model you could buy off the shelf, hopefully you don't see that as a backhanded complement hehe (it's not meant to be ).

Skalk - Oh stop it you, you'll make me blush Seriously, thank you so much. Those were all influences on me growing up, along with many others, no surprises there.

"The impossible and horrific side of Chaos" - fantastic, these are the aspects I was always aware of from my introductions to the warhammer worlds, so to know some of that shows through tells me I'm on target with my aims.

I'm always a little wary of group shots when so much is unfinished - but with a long weekend coming up I'll try to focus on finishing enough for at least a few small groups.

CK - Good to hear that, thanks. I think the legs were the weakest part of the original, so it shouldn't have been surprising that this swap works as well as it did. Although putting it on a Trygon body was still an option Oh wait, I have other plans for that.......

KernelTerror - An apt description indeed, many thanks. Maybe use that on a tagline if I ever make posters for the Cirque de Terreur.

Theo - Don't turn your back on the old gods....never can tell what they'll do when you're not looking, they're bad enough when you are. If I pull off a reasonable paint job maybe I'll have to source another torso from ebay...I have at least another hellbrute, and who wants to make them as is? Thank you.

Perkustin - No worries, I'm still easing my way back into dakka-land, so not expecting lots of traffic here. Washes indeed - before I dropped out for a while I was playing with priming white, washing a brown/flesh/back and then drybrushing back up through cream to white to give me a base for colours, then using inks and washes primarily. Haven't got the technique quite right yet, as I think it needs a more subdued palette than I tend to use, but it's all practice right?
Definitely took it as a complement

So I've mainly been dusting off (literally) various guys and gals to see what state they're in, and what repairs they need, so no progress to show, and little in the way of interesting new concepts - none I think I'll go with anyway.

But I do hate to update with no pics whatsoever, so I'll just drop the one to satisfy my own whims.

graven - Partially correct It is a cryx deathchicken......

Scraper - I'm certainly happy with that as a compliment

Dr H - Keep at it It is a thing isn't it?

So I had planned to finish a few things off to see if I could make up some sort of group shots. I picked out those that were closest to actually being complete and those that belonged with others, and as it was a subset that looked realistic I dusted them down, repaired any errant limbs, and put them next to my chair.

Then quite obviously I picked up some bits and built this:

The magos is still coming together, so the flesh-vats obviously popped out another survivor to see if it could help. Unfortunately it's more combat orientated than techy, oh well.
Flesh came out more purple than I intended, but it's fine. Once the rest is finished there'll be some touches of red and yellow where flesh joins metal.

Made a start on the little servitor too:

He, in the other hand, was meant to be that purple.

And on the subject of servitors:

Really struggling to get these brasses showing clearly, I'll have to try editing the pics next time round. Not sure on torso colour yet.....

And a touch of colour to the leggy daemonettes :

First needs her 'clothing' finishing, second needs more colour on the head sections, then both will get various washes/glazes over the claws. Still deciding if I want to add a souvenir to the second one's chain.

Also got these two prepped :

I'm now thinking the would-be acolyte might make a good astropath for one of the gestating rogue inquisitors/dark magi. So a bit of a think on whether to change up his polearm.

Couple of the latest marines got prepped too:

And found a scheme I liked so much for the turquoise horde that I have it to three at the same time :

So, wasn't what I meant to paint, but it is paint....almost in danger of this becoming a real P&M blog rather than just an M blog

Oh, yeah, and that guy.....

I feel your pain graven - mainly updating on my Fire tablet, and the auto-correct is horrendous...(it just decided auto-correct was anti-virus for instance)

As the magos was getting close to an actual completed figure I decided I'd better whip up a base for it.

Thought I might try something other than my standard rubble/urban wasteland type thing and figured something similar to this guy might work well for mechanicus dudes

May also re-purpose this base at some point...

So started on the platform, one wide strip of thin plastics to build up the sides, and a partial circle of slightly thicker stuff for the floor. As it was very thin plasticard, thought a couple of internal beavers would be a good shout.

Cut out a strip for the front face, glued it in place, and trimmed down to get things flush.

Found some off-cuts of two different textures for the two levels, but then to shape and attempted to file them smooth. But too heavy-handed with the tread-plate it turns out.

Glued some of the detritus from my cutting mat along the bottom to represent....err, detritus, and added a support for pipework

Added a couple of pipes, a hazard plate for the edge, and a bit more cheap stacked against the lip.

And dropped a bit of colour on it.

Added a few years to the bottom, and dusted some up for possible placement on top. Too many colours on the washes there, should have all been a bit thinner. Since given it a quick sponge with silver and an all-over wash with flesh to tone it down a bit. Will probably get some rust powders stabbed around when figure goes on.
It still looks a little busy colour-wise, and not as good as I wanted - quick, late night work - so it may end up going to a servitor instead.

And praise the Omnissiah, this looks completed (bar any touch-ups that I notice on the close up pics)

Archmagos Stallax Norii

So I see one of his eyes is wonky, missed a wash on the backpack skull, couple of wires and backpack doo-dads need tidying.
And think he needs a darker base, that one is too busy in terms of colour.

I like it. A lot. No need to scrap the base (ja! See what I did there?), maybe just tone down the orange rust on the lower part a bit?

P.S. Auto-correct woes? You won't really know what that is untill you try to use two languages simultaneously on the same device, trust me.

graven - Thank you sir.

Lt - Many thanks. I still plan on hitting it up with some rust powders, which technically is adding more orange rather than toning down, but I hope it may even everything out a little.

No decision as yet, I suspect I'll make up a variety of bases and see where they go before commuting to any.

And thus Epsilon Serpentis Three Gamma has no base of his own, and is presented here on the same base previously frequented by his master. (Think of it as two pict-captures taken as the magos and his trusty servitor pass by a security cam if it helps)

I used some of the gloss gel I use to seal my abstract works on his eyes, but it's not dried as expected, left them a little grainy.
In dire need of re-stocking my paints, I keep opening them to find they've dried up drier than a dry thing that's been dehydrated. My Vallejo and P3 ranges are mainly inks, washes and a few odd colours. Time to start building up again.

Dr H - Thanks, and....... ...thanks. Still haven't got round to further base shenanigans, so no changes there yet.

Flinty - Cheers! That's part of his coupling system. When he gets home of an evening after a hard day's Magosing he takes off the metal snake and attaches the plushy snake, so as not to scuff up the hab-unit.

Llama - Thank you. As a high ranking Magos he is fully equipped for multi-purpose duties, and can function in both roles, as well as squiggoth-scale endoscopy.I

So mainly ideas-focused recently as I think about some upcoming projects I'm prepping for - plus a bit of time spent back in Tamriel on The Elder Scrolls.

As proof of life I submit some marginal colouring....

The deadly dancers of Troupe d'Basqueville, had planned pink and purple, but the brush said otherwise.

Fixy and Stitchy - tech-support and first-aider for the turquoise horde. Should really start thinking on a name for that warband.

Close enough to finishing that I now need to figure out who he belongs to in order to determine how he gets based...

And the smaller stuff I've been playing with....

I had this guy a while back

But I'm not really feeling him these days, so he got bisected.

One half will likely be something like this, maybe a little more gribbly.

Other half I like a lot, but couldn't figure out a good 'shell' for his back. Haven't found a good techy type solution yet, so for now I just delved into my trusty bag of tentacles.

Many moons ago I got caught up in Block Mania and spent some coins in the Judge Dredd kickstarter. Although Iwas really excited about the figures as they slowly rolled in, I've realised I'm going to do little with them, so am going to sell on most of them, keeping back a few that I can use. One of the few I had painted was a fatty, and looking at him the other day, realised he had the makings of a great champion

Those are fairly standard placeholder arms at the moment. And still debating on the walker as here, or having him float, with a couple of daemonettes in smaller floating hemispheres pulling him along. I think the latter is more likely, but this isn't bad as a concept.

Have some leave coming shortly so hopefully get some more painting done, get a few more blu-tacced guys glued up and finalised, and start work on

Trygon/Soulgrinder mix as a daemon prince

Dryad Hamadreth into a Slaaneshi hellbrute type thing

28mm Dropzone walker into a hellbrute

Ghost in the Shell spider tank into a stalk tank

Or maybe cave in on payday and go grab some arkanaut floaty things and some custodes jetbikes

Dr H - I honestly didn't even register it until after I'd typed it..... I just thought he looked like a homeless turtle guy, and only caught it when I proof-read Although as I'd also been playing with the spider tank kit my subconscious was probably fully aware of what I was doing.
And cheers.

OMN - Thank you. The models are excellent, all I did was some arm swapping.
I think my main issue with the base is the paint, bit of a rush, could do better. Still haven't built any more yet, I'll get on that soon.

First day of a long leave, and afternoon was productive. A few tiny touches of paint across several models, but not enough to warrant any new pics. But did get some building done.

I thought the Sylvaneth Drycha Hamadreth has potential as a Slaaneshi walker, like a daemonette in an exo-suit.

So first thing to do was put the legs together.

Adding an extra one obviously Originally was going to clean off all the branches, but I decided they just needed tidying a bit to become tentacles. Adjusted the fit of one leg to even them out a bit when the third went in.

The rear armour actually made a decent thigh guard with minimal fuss, and liked a few rods inside the gaps.

Some form of gatling cannon seemed an obvious choice to me....mainly just because I like gatlings. Had a fitting from part of the rear armour that was reasonable as a mount, just needed some work to get a good placement. But after looking at it force while I figured this was a sleeker, more agile walker, so close combat called.

That looks more like it.

Whilst I was fiddling with weapons I also found the power plant I needed - that poor hellbrute model has been quite useful to be fair Also shown is the right thigh armour. A case of poor planning there to start with - I had filled the space with greenstuff, marked out some borders, then went to find some hex rod that I wanted as a press for the hexagonal holes. Came back and realised the only rod I had was far bigger than I needed. As in hard job to get two holes across the thigh! Had a very vague idea that there might be a tiny Allen key set somewhere, but not convinced, and no idea where, so had to pull out the gs which by now had been in a while
So instead I found an armour piece that I didn't intend using, cut it up, thinned it out, bent it about, glued it in place, and tidied the edges with greenstuff.

Added a few obligatory cables and tentacles, and after trying a few heads settled on a sister's of silence version. I had been tempted to use a bald head and cable hardware it into the walker, but decided against it in the end.

There's a couple of places that need some more greenstuff once cured, and I think another cable and a touch more work on the front plate to bring it together, but good to go.

I've left her with pointy stabby type feet for now, but I reserve the right to add the other toes if I want

I think that'll do.......

And so into the painting...... (I know....shocking, right?)

Once the metals get a highlight I'm planning on some subtle washes/glazes over the top to break up the silver slightly. Or maybe try fading some of the silver into bone......

The other hellbrute got a bit of attention too, but mainly on the cables, so I'll leave pictures till there's a bit more to show.
