I started playing AoS a couple months ago when someone mentioned I could use the Tzeentch Daemons I had for 40k but never used. I have enjoyed AoS a lot and playing somewhat regularly has also inspired me to crack in to painting some more of them. I run a purely Tzeentch list which has proven to be quite powerful even without any summoning...

Now there is a coincidence - just finished some Pink Horrors myself (still looking for a cheap Herald):

Also did a Daemon Prince which I am less fond of:

And one more unit for my Seraphon which are now 'this' close to being 'done':

Looking sweet as always, Matt!

When can we expect some Fyreslayers from yourself?

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Purple, red, and bone on the Saurus looks really solid Matt.

I have my Berzerkers and Runesmith all put together and undercoated, but I am going to be diverted by Skaven for a short, as they are needed for the Realm of Metal campaign.

Was going to do the Fyreslayers for the Doubles later this month, but think I may go Seraphon instead. Or Stormcast. Really haven't decided...

Hello folks,

I have the IoB Skaven, and hope to pick up a WLC or Doomwheel or two in the next few weeks (and loads of round bases!)

I want a black and white sort of look, and just have the eyes and warp forged/warp stone bits glowing purple. I recall seeing a VC army a few years ago done in a similar fashion, and thought that it looked pretty cool.

Would this be easy to do, and quick? I was thinking a black undercoat, Eshin grey base coat, a few heavy washes of Nuln Oil, then dry brush up with lighter greys? Perhaps a few other points of spot colour, like black weapon hafts/shafts/handles, metal or the odd bit of red cloth? Sin City style, I suppose. As you can see I'm not very confident of thsi approach, but time is a major factor and I just want this stuff painted up and on the table ASAP!

Thoughts and critiques welcome!

Cheers,

monders.

It certainly sounds like a plan. Perhaps try it on one rat first to see if you like it, and see how it goes?

Cheers Matt, yep I suppose that's the only way to know for sure.

I'll get a test model posted up as soon as I can.

Ta!

In preparation for when their rules finally come out:

And Monders, painting in shades is hard if you want stark contrasts. While spraying black and dry brushing dark grey/medium grey is easy. Just remember that Abbadon Black is deeper/blacker than Chaos Black.

Finished my Seraphon. Well, sort of... Last night I (finally) completed the Firelance Starhost, the last 'big block' of lizards I wanted to do...

And have got a Scar-Veteran to lead them...

Why would I want to stop doing Seraphon for a bit. Well, this, really...

So, now it is on to finishing the models needed for the campaign in Quest for Ghal Maraz, and that means Skaven and Tzeentch daemons!

I'm a big fan of this army, as accidental and speedy as it was for you Love the purple big guys and the masses of troops - really looked like one of the most balanced, "army like" forces I saw in the Throne coverage as well, which I appreciate a great deal. Definitely my favorite of your armies that I've seen so far.

Look forward to purple trog!

Beautiful Matt! And with all the tables I see in your pics and now armies ranked up in glass cabinets, it seems you are putting together Warhammer World Swindon ;-)

Maybe you should hold an event? :-p

Would be happy to (we can get official GW support, have done it before for 40k) if there was interest...

I would certainly be up for it! I have just had an offer accepted on a place in Newport so I'll be just down the M4 from you - even if it's just for that game we talked about before! :-)

My whole Tzeentch army started with this second-hand metal Lord of Change, which sat base coated for over two years. It was probably never going to happen when I was trying to use them as a 40k army...
Anyways his colouring is based on a wonderful native New Zealand bird called the Kea. Not only are they beautiful with their forest green feathers and orange under wing, they are intelligent, and total trolls as well.

That's a excellent paint scheme and a lovely model! I love using natural color schemes for my models as well. My Jungle Swarms are like little nature dioramas of the native (and not so native) reptiles from Florida.

Dark elves have me interested at the moment, painted this one in classic drow colors, and as you can guess as I add more 'drow' I will also be adding some of the mega spiders (Arachnarok).

Been Around the Block

Hey all, I just joined the hobby this past June, so I'm not quite a year into it. My first serious attempt at painting, basing, conversions, etc. was for an army of Stormcast Eternals. I purchased the starter box and painted the Stormcast side, and then went and made additional purchases to augment it. I've been lurking on these forums for the past 6 months and the pictures I saw really inspired me to get better and push myself.

Mongoose Matt, in particular I've enjoyed your battle write-ups and really been impressed by the quality AND SPEED of your painting.

I'll have a report on the Magmadroth I've been working on lately very shortly!

Without further ado, the full army:

Total count:
20 Liberators
20 Judicators
10 Protectors
5 Decimators
3 Retributors
3 Prosecutors
Lord Relictor
Lord Castellant and Gryph Hound
Lord Celestant on Drakhoth
Conversion counts as Balthasar Gelt
Celestant Prime

Some of the better pieces:

My Celestant Prime was displayed at the local GW store I started purchasing at, which was a big confidence boost.

I can tell my painting has become much better. The Lord Relictor on the right was one of the first detailed models I did, the Lord Castellant on the left was one of the later models I worked on:

I found I was getting destroyed by armies that could summon when I played at the local GW store, and Stormcast Eternals have no wizards. So I found the warscroll that would fit the fluff and work well for my purposes, which was Balthasar Gelt. I hated his old resin model though, so I decided to undertake my first serious conversion and make my own. I used a left over Stormcast Paladin head, a body and accessories from a high elf mage set, and a Bretonian pegasus knight. The boost to unbinding was exactly what I needed.

Anyway, lots more pictures at my gallery: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-98460-50436_Stormcast%20Army.html

I managed to salvage some of the Empire miniatures that I bought for an Imperial Guard conversion project. So far I have 10 handgunners and 5 Halberdiers. It was then that I opted to collect an Empire army rather than WoC on the grounds that I want a nice, bright and colorful army. The plan is buy a Battalion box, an Empire General on a Griffon and some Greatswords. This should give me a grand total of 20 handgunners, 25 Halberdiers, 10 Knights, 1 cannon, 10 Greatswords and a mounted general which seems to be enough for a good AoS army.

As for the colors... probably a Stirland army. Green and yellow look nice together.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.

Didn't take notes so no battle report, but here's some improv terrain for a Battleplan we played. We're continuing to work on our gaming table for AoS. Proper gaming mat next.

We've also stated what terrain has what rules. Saves times and terrain rules do add an additional level (especially during deployment).

Some photos of the table yesterday:
