The brush bushes turned out well. I've used toothbrush bristles to similar effect.

The airbrush:

Lesson One. Spray water on stuff -- old newspapers for example. Just water. Get used to using the thing without fear of clogs etc. This teaches muscle memory, and how the airbrush sounds, and so forth.

Lesson 2: Very thin paint. On paper or cardboard. Just to see how spray patterns form. Draw stuff. Write things . See what the airbrush does from different distances etc.

There is also a slow dri blending fluid medium from liquitex that may help, if the Vallejo is unavailable. You'll note that it has a slight ammonia smell to it. I wonder if the Vallejo does?

Tooth brush bristles would work too, but these are at least a natural color. I've watched a few videos, but I'm just not interested in messing with it currently. There's some great advantages, but right now the brush is my stress relief.

No update today, only a little painting of the mounted samurai, but just not enough time.

Trust me your age sneaks up on you and by the time you realize you might be slipping and forgetting things you have already forgotten that you have been forgetting things.

Sniffing painting chemicals has that affect on you, but as long as it's not too bad then it's okay....and you'll forget about it anyway.

I stopped by the dollar store yesterday to look , but the chip brushes are cheaper at Home Depot and Walmart. Just one of those items that is mass sold through those chains. I just need to find some in a green color now.

Well not much progress today. Started repainting an Oni figure I had when I got home last night, but was too tired to mess around long. Got up this morning to work at church for a bit, then went to another church to help set up for a trivia night contest we are working at tonight. It's to benefit the children of one of my wife's friends from elementary and high school. Her friend Kenna and her husband had been separated and she and the kids were staying with her parents back in February of this year. Her husband snapped, went over to her parents house and shot her then killed himself, all right in front of their three kids (teenagers). Kenna was rushed to the hospital and had multiple surgeries but died from the wounds. The kids were obviously traumatized. My wife and other friends have arranged this trivia night at a local church. So far we have 34 tables (8+people at each table), 70 something donated silent auction items (including $400+ Cardinals baseball tickets for tomorrow nights game), soda and alcohol for everyone. My wife is MCing tonight and I'm one of the 2 judges. I'm planning on making a sign saying "Judges cannot be bribed....but can easily be liqoured up and convinced".

Local FLGS that I got the Test of Honour stuff from has finally become a warlord stockist. The stuff I got from them was misprinted on the shelf as I was trying to buy the other two boxes today I noticed they were back up to full price . Oh well I guess I'm waiting until the next 15% deal from warlord. They also have a few people at the shop getting interested in the game so they might wind up doing a night of Honour. This game is really vying for all my hobby funds, I'm even contemplating NOT getting Necromunda when it comes out. It's also making me rethink if I'm going to put money in on Zombicide green horde. The model count is greet for ZGH, but I don't have enough for both and to get all the exclusives would be more than my hobby funds allow. I might do the basic pledge and that's it, but there are some extras that I really want that are exclusives .

Edit: I call him Oni no Akodo

Thanks, it was a great event , don't have a total raised, but the 50/50 raffle brought $1100 for the family since the winner resonated his $550 winnings.

Those look a little small, but I followed the link and found all sorts of sizes, so I'll be adding those to the list.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll take some time to get more done on him.

Well, you find inspiration everywhere right? While getting the beer iced for the trivia night I was breaking apart four pack can beer carriers and the clips looked useful to me. I'm not a drinker ( I'll partake of a beer every few months, but not like when I was in my twenties), so I have missed the new beer carriers. These clip onto the top of regular aluminum cans so I think they will revolutionize the soda can storage tank builds.

Since I got caught up in cleanup I wound up with 17 of these buggers. But since we also don't do soda, I'll have to buy some cans too .

Edit: didn't feel like painting, so I just assembled 5 more ashigaru (3 muskets and 2 bowmen) and cut bases off of some board game pieces from an OOP game called Ninja for L5R .

Left to right; Samurai, drunken guard, Samurai house guard with yari, Ninja.

Also backed up in my rolling chair at the paint station and ran over the cats tail , I tried to move him first, but after I moved him his tail flicked back. Poor guy meowed bad, but everything is attached and it's moving fine. The purring from being pet is not happening and the death stare he gave me was unpleasant.

Well I'm sure it's just like a stubbed toe, and they got to learn their space. I come down to my modeling area and find the cat in my seat quit often, so much so that the seat is stained white from cat litter toes .

Well, upon advice from Cam I decided to try looking up how to make bamboo instead of buying it. A couple YouTube vids later and I felt like trying it out. So doing the grocery run I went and bought more hot glue sticks and some more "soon to be bush" brushes and came home. I cut up some dowel rods I already had and hot glued them to some CDs. Added some PVA glue and flicked with sawdust and tiny pebbles. Applied rusty car primer spray and here we go.

I'll have two bamboo wooded areas for gaming, and the third CD has an arcane legions Han foo dog statue with a temple lantern and a rock outcrop.

That will act as a temple/shrine for the clan. The rock outcrop is a nice place to sit at/on to pray/meditate in the town.

Also swung by miniaturemarket and picked up my deal of the day from Saturday.

A huge dust tactic walker six shooter/bulldog for $8. I'm going to test out the six shooter guns on the back of my leviathans fists later. The tank might become a mobile command center.

Also at miniaturemarket they had this bag of clump foliage.

Which is what I'll use on my bamboo pieces.

We had a beagle years ago who passed away when our twins were three or four years old. She would perch herself like a bird on the top of "My" chair. The kids still call it her chair to this day.

Well I got one of the bamboo wood sections mostly done yesterday.

Different angle.

Not the best paint job, but half hours work usually doesn't make masterpieces. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to work on some more of the painting of it (mainly the ground) and get the other one to a decent level as well. Right now it's serviceable

The deal of the day is usually good when it's actual miniature game stuff, unfortunately it usually winds up being some card game or board game item that I don't need/want.

The ground will be getting more attention and possibly shrubbery to help it out some. It was real easy to make, just need time to make more and finish it up correctly.

Thanks Yorkright

Test of Honour build has been fun for me. I've decided NOT to back the green horde Kickstarter after all. They got my $1. The funds were going to go between it, Necromunda and Test of Honour. Now the funds are only going to Test of Honour......yes, Necromunda is being back burnered....at least for now. I want to be sure Necromunda isn't just another GW money grab, and if it is going to be continually stocked then I should have no problem getting it later. I might grab the book when it comes out, but I have enough Escher figs currently.

In the mean time I finished painting up this shrine CD.

Hopefully more later.

Cheers.

Thanks Youwashock, I enjoyed building it, and I think it will fit the table nicely when I get to that point. The statue is one of the pieces from Arcane Legions a 20mm game system that never took off. Clearance at miniature market I grabbed a shed load of them and now finally get to use them for something.

Well today....stopped by the bane of my existence. Miniaturemarket. I saw that the set I was wanting for Test of Honour had come back in stock, so I had to pick it up. The metal character figure got primed as soon as I got home, and I just finished painting him up. I give you Chobei.

The story behind him makes him out to be like Robin Hood. A samurai of the people who fought other samurai and gave back to the poor and down trotted. He is stronger than the previously strongest samurai with a strength of 6 (gets to roll 6 dice when strength tests are done), and he ignore some wounds on him when testing. Plus he's a fat samurai wh doesn't wear his full armor suit.

Nice work on the CD terrain, Theo'.
Good job on Chobei, doesn't look like someone that'd take a "moob" joke well.

Jeff, Something I do when using CD's as bases is to cover them, top and bottom, wrapped around, with tissue / PVA. Once dry the CD is captive and works fine to lend stiffness to the base.
I've even joined bits of CD's together (butted up against each other) in one piece of tissue/PVA to make larger bases.
Had no problems with anything flaking, peeling or otherwise falling off.

I really like your Test of Honor stuff. That fat samurai reminds me of an old (90's) comic called Fat Ninja...

the CD-based terrain is a nifty idea which I will have to steal.

Now showing more Samurai Marines, Bad Squiddo Amazons, and an Oldhammer Chaos Thug!

Painting total as of 3/28/2024: 21 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog
