Well, 80 Clanrats are basically done. The only thing that remains is the green, glowing sewer goo.
I just finished paints 160 red eyes, and 80 sets of whitish teeth. Phew, need sleep. (pictures taken before the eyes, teeth, etc.)

There are three specific models within a unit of clanrats. You're allowed 1 in every 20 for each.
They are the Clawleader, the Clanrat Standard Bearer, and the Clanrat Bell-ringer. The bell ringers are holding bells instead of spears, and allow +2 to run rolls.
The Clawleaders have a little crest on their helms. But, since I bought most of them used on ebay, they didn't include that little piece. I only had the one that came with my original set. So, I improvised. Each turned out better than the last. I gave one a plume of feathers. Another has horns on their helmet. But, I didn't want it to look too much like a viking, so I turned them. It has a definite Loki vibe, and I quite like it. The last has a human skull on a spike, kind of like the orc in LOTR. It may be my favorite of the four. The spike placement turned out perfectly.

Then, the standard bearers are carrying big flag banners. I freehanded some sigils on the flags. I tried to make them all things that would attract rats, while also not taking it too seriously.
So, I can field four units of 20 each, two of 40 each, one of 60 and one of 20, etc. I guess two units of 60 and one of 20 would be just fine, so I may need to get another 40-60 clanrats, but . . . probably not going to happen any time soon. Now that the 80 clanrats are essentially done, the 80 Plague Monks I have on sprue are looming.

Definitely feeling some love for some heroes or something else before I dive into them. Well, anyway, the pictures will all follow, so here we go.

Thanks for reading, watching, etc.

Very nicely done (huge) group of figures!

I like how you varied the colors of the cowls- for such a large group with relatively similar outlines (that ratly hunched over posture) this provides an element of color that makes the whole unit pop without detracting from the awesome totality of the whole group, and allowing individuals- like your banner-rats- to stand out if focused on individually.

Really nice job and a tremendous effort.

Great work smashing out that many rats in one batch! I can see why you needed the motivation of the banners to get through… oh, wait, they’re for the rats! The bases are really awesome too, fantastic work all round!

I love seeing hordes of Rats done. They were one of my first (actually I think they were my first) armies 30+ years ago. I just hate having to do so darn many of them.

I've been pretty quiet for a minute. I started a new teaching job. I got hired the day before school started, so that made for a crazy couple of weeks. We're in person, which is a nice change from online remote learning, but makes for its own set of challenges. I'm teaching art at what we in the states call a middle school (ages 10-14 roughly). It's the school kids go to during the throws of puberty. But it is so awesome to be able to apply my artistic talent to my job. Then, MrsJazzyJeff went to Rome, Italy for business. The travel restrictions were at a low point, and we're both vaccinated, so I tagged along for a little pleasure. Ate a lot of pizza, drank a lot of Italian beer, and generally had a great time. Saw the Colloseum, the Pantheon, and the Pope from his window. The rest of September has been a bit of a blur.

But, somewhere in there I managed to finish the clan rats! The pictures didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but here's a bit of a photo dump. Included is parts I'm sorting and starting on my 80 plague monks. Well, currently only 67. There has to be another sprue around here somewhere . . .

That's a pretty full life all the way around: new job, Classic Sites, Pope, beer, pizza and a whole fantastically painted army in a relatively rare genre!

Well done and congratulations.

Army is looking great. I absolutely feel you on teaching from behind a mask, it's a draining in unexpected ways, but indeed it is great to share the passion also - I teach media, which rarely feels like work, and English, which frequently does great trip by the sounds of it, I love the pantheon especially. Molto bene!

Working on some bases today. I really like making bases. Such a fun way to add a little bit of interest and story to the mini.
Here I have bases for some marine bikes, and the rest of the heroes form Cursed City.
Need the glue to dry and I'll slap on a layer of primer.

I like the patches of purple on the bike bases. It seems a shame to prime over it.

Now showing more Samurai Marines, Bad Squiddo Amazons, and an Oldhammer Chaos Thug!

Wow! Another busy poster! Real life sounds like it’s been fun if hectic. I’m impressed you managed to finish off the mountain of rats around all of that! Good luck finding the last sprue of monks and populating the bases

I totally understand the being busy, I'm teaching full time in person again too, I've had no energy for anything since the beginning of September. That's great that you are getting to share your art abilities with students (even if it is a tough age to work with). I'm glad you had a good time in Italy, and somehow still works on your rats

Just about finished with my screaming bell. A few more details here and there, and then I need to base it.

Really pleased with the Grey Seer, the cloak turned out well, imo.

The Rate Ogre is not 100% done, but getting pretty close.

The flames and the bell itself turned out all right. Not completely sold on the effects, but not sure what else to do.

In other news, I blocked in some base colors for a few of the other Cursed City Heroes.
I'm feeling a definite "Clue" vibe here. If the elf I already did is "Mr." Green, then here are Miss Scarlet, Prof. Plum and "Ms." Peacock. A little gender bending, of course.

and started a few more of the baddies:

Not pictured, I'm assembling parts for a new terrain piece.
All over the place in the hobby at the moment.
The mess and piles of projects are driving Mrs. Jazzy Jeff a little crazy. But, if my marriage survives it, I'll have some cool stuff cranked out soon.

Anyone want to play some games?

Love that garbage can banner with the classic fish bones! Great little treat hidden among the chittering hordes.

The Screaming Bell is done! I think. Except for the base, which I haven't started. And then the sewer osl effect, of course. Still, an accomplishment.

Also finished a couple more baddies from Cursed City. They've been done for a little while, but got their bases done.
Did some work on another of the CC heroes. I tried some nmm silver on his armor, etc. I used the same purple as his clothes for the base color and I'm not too happy about it. In fact, I'm a little disheartened and want to just tmm it over the top. Trying to resist that urge, but we'll see.

So much lovely stuff going on. Highlights for me are the two big baddies, the glow on the runes on the bell, lovely rich purple cloth and the archer's hair. It's lucky you're not in the uk though, or I'd be coming for your skaven bits working on some Veer-Myn - space rats! Have you ever considered tackling Ratticus Mechanicus?

Progress.
Screaming Bell is all but done.
Two Doomwheels just about there.
Base for a Vermin Lord, still need to paint him.
70 Plague Monks glued together and primed.
20 Skryre Acolytes also built and primed.

A few more shots of the completed bell cart, and the latest on the doomwheels. Water is poured, and I took a first attempt at making splash effects with some hot glue.

Great work on the horde rattus, loving the big pieces and their bases - and huge props for the almighty batch painting, at my speed that is just an horrific thought.

Those CC guys are also very nice, that hero looks ripe for conversion.
