Which caster is best for a more jack heavy lean and what jacks work well with him/her.

No Ret caster is really a true "jack caster". Most Ret lists will consist of at least 1 heavy (probably a Phoenix or Discordia) and then maybe just maybe another jack. Vyros is really the only caster that can handle more than 2 (I run 3 with him) but event then the 3rd jack is just sitting next to him most of the time - till he decides to get stuck in or pop his feat.

so how is ret played effectively then?

Ret is best played in a combined arms approach. We have solid melee and ranged troops but pay for them points wise. Most of our casters don't have the spare focus to pass around to more than 2 jacks after upkeeps are put in play.

If Ret players could use their jack points in solos instead of jacks most of them would - we have some of the best solos in the game.

All of my Ret lists tend to focus around a core of infantry - usually involving Dawnguard Sentinels another solid ifnatry choice (Battle Mages with Rahn, MHSF for Kaelyssa/Ravyn, mrore Dawnguard etc) and a Phoenix. After that its fill in to meet the casters needs.

So I guess the question becomes what caster is good AGAINSt jacks?

Kaelyssa's probably the most annoying. With Backlash on a unit of Mage Hunters, you'll be able to kill a warjack and its controller at the same time.

Honestly though, anti-warjack measures for Ret are less focused on their warcasters and more on their unit choice. The aforementioned MHSF dismantles warjacks quite ably, as do both flavors of Dawnguard, one due to weapon master and the other to Flank and (usually, in my experience) a marshaled Griffon.

This. Ret is all about unit choices. The chaster becomes almost secondary in some list formats.

From what I've seen a couple units of MHSF and Sentinels are pretty scary. If you aren't playing a natural high ARM caster, MHSF with the attachment are scary to the point of absurdity.

Ret is one of my main opponets and the scary things are..

Dawnguard sentinals as others have said.

The new Wrath Caster, Ossy with MHSF can be brutal.

The jacks 'seem' weaker, but once you factor in the fact they have shields, they can be just as tough as any other heavy.
