I'm knuckling down and deciding to paint up my Eldar that Ive had since the codex came out. I'm going to run a wild host, BUT I've been playing BLood Angels for over a decade. I'm looking for a color scheme that is NOT red, black, and white.

I think I'm looking at something similar to the Vior'la Tau Scheme:
Rotting Flesh as the primary color, catachan green as the dark. With red accents.

I'm still open for suggestions, I was thinking a light gray, dark grey and orange scheme but I'm not a fan of the Yme Loc symbol.

Whatever colors I go with I will probably use the cosmic snake symbol and other Saim Hann iconography.

More than a touch of red came of my fingers onto the minty green but I think I like it, I just have to seal before handling

Thoughts?

I was almost tempted to leave it all catachan green and paint the red strip but thats how I plan to do my DAs in the distant future.

That's not too shabby. I didn't like the idea of your color combo at first, but the picture changes my mind.

Keep rockin' that scheme.

@fenrir thanks I was a little sketch on the idea too, but my internal color wheel said it might work. Im working on a wash, I may nick an idea I saw on a Pre Heresey Sons of Horus blog.
dreadant I gave your idea of bone weapons a shake. I already had some lower halves already colored bone so I stuck them on, Im not too hot for it but Ill throw out a side by side to see what other folks think.

I also thought I'd show you where im coming from. These two schemes are from 2006, I tried a mottled scheme like the ones that came out in the Aliatoc army in the BRB and om the GW website at the time; and a standard Saim Hann scheme with the weapons bone instead of black.

So I am pretty solid on Rotten Flesh with Catachan for the undercarraige, still thinking out gem colors. red saim hann emblems, and at least on the riders a bestial brown/snakebite leather bomber jacket. Pics on that when complete.
Still looking for input, including alternate colours. Thanks

That red (left image) is a bit plain imo, but the darker red (right image) is a bit better. Still seems kind of plain to me, but I'm a bit over the top sometimes. If you do a bit of highlighting possibly either around the contours or around the splotches, that could turn out well.

It reminds me a little bit of this lovely post here:

The bottom sidexside is what i am stripping off the models. The red is plain because its just a simple basecoat: bloody red. The one on the right is highlighted, harder to see in the lil pics I threw up a bigger one, its actually pretty stark in blazing orange around the edges. I dont like the color for three reasons:
1. Its time consuming, stippling this one model probably took 5 hours, it was meant to be a one off for a farseer.
2. The stippling created a raised effect, I know it can be fixed with thinned paints...see above.
3 I feel like high lighting this color would be a nightmare, orange is too much, red is already present...nightmare.

I would consider doing a true marble effect, and I have lurked the blog you posted, it is in fact what made me say "why haven't I painted my eldar yet?" But if my experience with this particular model has taught me anything, it was that a layered splotch or marbling effect is measurably easier in blue.
and just for S and Gs heres the current status of my eldar host, unchanged since late 2006.

(*picks up jaw*) well alrighty then.... That's a nice...umm.. pile of eldar you've got there...

I agree. That paint job is super cool (especially when you can see it clearly!) but I would guess that would be pretty time consuming. It looks kinda like you were sponge painting it.

Well, to the minty stripe mobile it is! Keep it up, it's sweet.

Oh, and nice Eldar. I really like the scheme the bone the red and the blue tie up nicely together.

I thought I was the only one who like eldar jetbikes! Thank you guys for your input and kind words. I'm still experimenting with a wash that might bring out the details without destroying the minty green. And Im still searching a little bit for an innovative scheme.
I wanted to test a wash I made using a guide I stole from someones Sons of Horus army here on Dakka. I'm not sold on it, as in I hate it. But the brown bomber jacket went well.
Looking for suggestions on eye color for the minty green though. turquoise is not it.

I also painted up a couple rough coats of magenta, and a lighter magenta on a grey base washed with a heavy black. I meant for it to be a medium grey but...i underestimated how heavy it was.

heres the light magenta (pink)

I still have a green gold to try, and should I fail to form a deep connection with ANY other scheme I may dip into my limited selection of red.

I'm still most attached to the minty green. Looking for a wash that will suit it, I may try something more sap colored, suggestion welcomed with open and enthusiastic arms. If all else fails and I dont find something else in my paint supply, Ill just dry brush over catachan green.

This one is really nice. It's a great shade of purple and that silver complements it well. I like it.

Well since I got positive responses for magenta I worked a little more on it. First just for fun a shot of some jetbikes I am saving for last.

I ran a none too subtle hard line of the lighter magenta and washed it with a magenta and violet was to even it all out.

Here's what it looks like with a hood and a dark body

I was planning on trying a large scale basecoat but as it turns out the paint that is already on these bikes is EXTREMELY resistant to stripping.

I decided I like the Magenta and went all in. I basecoated the hood and wings magenta, sprayed highlights on the edges, developed and applied a wash. basecoated the frame in a gunmetal silver and washed it in black. I worked on 3 bikes, 2 normal and a shrieker. I played with some gem colors and landed on tourquise and a deep blue. Here are progress shots:

the engine components need detailing plus the seat and rider and the first one will be complete.
I still havent decided on hood decoration colors, but I may go mithril silver, or fortress grey.

Everybody was unloading eldar bike when the last codex was released thinking there would be a new model...jokes on them I guess. I have a bunch more eldar junk (yeah thats how I label it in storage too) and bikes hiding around here somewhere. All I really need is 3 Fire Prisms and I think I have a full jetbike, vyper,FP FOC.

Thank you both, I wasnt too sure about it at first and now that at least one is close to being finished I find it quite fetching. Still need a color to do Runes in and a name...I may go Kaelor. I figure they and Saim Hann have a lot in common.

I do believe my test model is done. I need to brainstorm an environment for the bases, and I do believe next time I'll be a little lighter on the wash and varnish between major steps.

I'm also pretty sure that the shieker body does not fit the legs at all, there is a gap that may be apparent in the pics. I think most or all of the riders will be guardian torsos.

Thank you! I have a couple boxes but no real plans to play them. One box already got sacrificed to the pile o jetbikes, I will probably paint the other one AS Shining Spears but they'll go last. I'm putting some serious thought down to waiting til every aspect is failcast and putting aspects on bikes for a true wild host feel and for some variety.

In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

Oh, did I see minty green?! I love minty green!
It's hard to find any colours that go well with it, but I really like what you did on that first picture.
The purple and red ones are very nice too, but minty green is win! It's a colour you really don't see very often so I think you should try some more things with it. Minty green + dark green and maybe some greys/silvers? Add a splash of that purple, on the gems perhaps? No idea if it will work.
Anyway, nice work, you made me want to paint something minty green.
