As requested I am putting together a Lamenters blog. Truely not one of the most popular chapters, but from which seems to have gotten more attention thru the release of the Badab War books from ForgeWorld.

Being a Lamenter Player is challenging. I started this Chapter based off of the need to produce a Badab war army for Adepticon 2011. We were all aligned to play one of the Warders and since I did not relish the Executioner or the Astral/Tiger/claws paint scheme I went with the only available choice ( Mantis Warriors were all ready taken by... well if your a regular dakkite you should be able to answer this yourself).

I'm using this as a place to showcase my journey back into 40K. This is the first real Army I have painted since the release of the 3rd ed. The paint standards have greatly improved as well as the techniques. I have been a Dakka regular for some time and have gleened alot of info; My work keeps me from becoming avid painter. So updates will be slow in coming, but will put up what I have to start and hopefull get into a steady pattern.

Again all comments are welcome, thanks for looking.

SL

PS. I'll be updating the pictures . These are alot of WIP shot as I franticly worked to get my stuff done for the tourney.

Here is my opening shot. One of two SR and an Assault squad w/JP

I think yellow looks really good when done right - and to me, these look great!

Maybe I should paint my yellow marines..

What are you thinking about for the bases ?

I love to see lesser used chapters, regardless of your motive for using them. Very well done start to your army. The checker patterns look good. I've been using yellow quite a bit lately, having generally avoided it in the past. It is tough to work with compared to most colors, but you've got a real strong vibrant yellow going that works well for a full army IMO.

Nice intricate work on the checkered patterns. I love the Lamenters and would have painted my Blood Angels as Lamenters if I hadnt discovered them months after beginning my BA project. You have a very nice start though.

Hi Solar_lion,

Nice looking marines - I'm also considering doing lamenters as my next project, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. Will you be theming your lamenters in any particular way?

Look forward to seeing more!

I honestly didn't know the lamenters were yellow. I thought they were a yellow/green or Chartreuse in color.

I like it so far. You did a great job with the hair on the sergeant.

I don't do Forgeworld, so forgive me, but what the heck is the big flying vehicle thing? Never seen a model like that before.

Those tiny little checks must have given you fits. Kudos on your patience.

Duel face: I thinks it's my camera. Most of my photos are from my phone. I should run them thru photoshop

DX3" Thanks. The bases are actually done. I went with a High desert look. I'm planning on getting some new picks up af all the completed models this weekend.

Astro: Thanks. still working on getting yellow " right"

GVR: Thanks

Element" Thanks, No there Chapterhouse. I didn't put the small little flaps on.. I just figured there Jump not jet packs, How much steering do you get/need in a short jump?

S&D: Thanks.. My Lamenters are a Pre-Badab and Badab era chapter. So I'm going with almost all beakie helms, more gothic looking vech ( using current models, but looking at making them more retro 40K). I almost don't build anything directly out of the box. I pretty much " bit " out all the sprus and build what looks right to me.

Uhlan: I've seen then lots of shade of yellow. from bright to almost golden. I guess that is cool about it. Everyone has the oppertunity to interpret their own version. Look at all the BA chapters here on Dakka. lots of variations. Same for Ultramarine blue.

Jimsolo: Thanks. Still learning all the ins and outs of face/hair painting. light skinned/ blond hair. lots of fade out. The Stormraven is an actual GW model kit. Ironicly I was all set to build one from scratch. ( there are some intresting scratch built versions out there) and bought a lot of kits to use for parts. Then just months till the tourney, GW releases the SR kit. Pressed for time I go with the kit. It would have been intresting to build from My interpetation thou.

Theolfils: Thanks

I absolutely adore these Lamenters - I can't put my finger on it, but the yellow makes the PA look more 'real' than a lot of other schemes I've seen.

Despite your great paintjob, however, the Storm Raven still looks ... not so good.

Looking forward to seeing more of the army!

They look really good SL, glad you finally posted them. I would suggest that the clean yellow paint job does not translate as well through your camera as it does in RL. I have a suggestion for you...

Yellow is one of those colors that responds really well to weathering and battle damage. As a matter of fact it almost requires it to look right. Big surfaces like vehicles just beg for extra detail like that. There are some great tuts on dakka. Give them a go!

A bit of work and your SRs will really look like they've been in the #hit! For a chapter with the storied history of the Lamenters... that's a good thing!

ok so I been busy getting caught up on other projects. Namely GMS swaps. Fortunitly the trade most prople want are for my Lamenters, so It gives me a chance to work out a few new models and explore some new techniques.
Dev Sarge for Whale music.

First Lamenter terminator I've done. Still would like to do more with the poses and maybe a little more dramatic/ hearldic paint scheme. Still I'm pleased with the first attempt.

I have 4 dev. I'm working on currently and a razorback for them. Will have to re-do the sarge as he will be mailed out soon.

Thanks,

Ice - so far I have a PC, HB, MM and LC, thou I plan to build the additional HB and LC that comes with the spru. I have another Dev. box set as well so I'll do the same. This way I can maximize my load out to any combination.

So that allows me the choice of : 4 LC, 4 HB 2 MM 2 ML, 2 PC. I think I also have bits for 1 of each as well sitting in my bits box. Quite a lot for a assualt army.

Not sure about the AC list. I could use your help here. Git and I have been bouncing around idea as well as trying to work out what we might be facing ( GK - is probably a good bet). Looking at more assualt troops and maybe a dread.

Looking at doing a lot more Air brushing on the razorback. So far I have amazed myself how much you can do with it. I also am doing some conversions to make it look slightly different with an older feel to match my more early era marines. Then on to Lamentering it out.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Dev's can get pretty expensive if you maxx their loadout. So to a large degree it depends on how you plan on using them. My little group of 4 MLs has been very productive and well worth the cost. I've been told by a friend who is also a very good competitive gamer that folks often run 3 MLs with 1 las cannon in the mix in order to give the unit a little extra punch without adding too much to the cost.

I think I've heard of guys successfully running 4 PCs too as a massed anti-marine/terminator type unit. Expensive though.

The nice thing about 4 MLs is that they don't scare anyone, so they tend to be a lower priority target. This usually means they get 2-3 turns of shooting at the least, which really gives them a chance to get some good kills.

I'm not gonna perm. set them into squads, I just want to have enough to do what ever combi makes sense at the time.

Still 4 PC going off would be cool and dangerous if they all get hot. Irony in the making.

I 'll also have additional ML available from my Tac squads. So far I haven't squad desiginated any guys yet. Assualt squads at this point all have JP , so no need there.

You going to magnetize them? Might be an easy way to make the squad flexible w/out having to paint a zillion figures. Come to think if it... I may do that myself.

Nice looking Lamenter army you have going there Solar. I would have to agree with Gits as the yellow is dying for some weathering and damage. Right now everything looks right off the factory floor and a bit too bright. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing more pics.
