I can't say enough about this tutorial. After 3 years of not painting and just collecting Orks, your vidieo inspired me to start to paint them. I have shared my results in a vidieo responce to yours. Wow. Just wow. This video is not just helpful, Catattafish, it is brilliant. This should be required viewing for anyone (like myself) with dozens of unpainted or barely painted boyz sitting on their table.

Thats good what you have done, but let me add some tips.
As the last poster said, I think your paint is a little thick, Thin it down so it is a little transparent, you don't want it TOO runny but when its too thick, the result you had is what happens. Secondly, rewatch my tutorial, listen for when I talk about doing fine strokes around the edges of the highlight, that part is missing on your painting. Lastly, did you apply a GW wash to the model? That will also assist in the blending of colours, thats why I call it "liquid Talent" Good on ya bro, thanks for sharing and keep painting so that your next model is better than the last!
Hey cat, the funny thing is the way you paint your miniatures is usually the way I draw my pictures, for example: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Aerxi8KN-4A/Tk3izeEm5OI/AAAAAAAAAv0/yTNpmul3KI4/s1600/Tempest-Dragons-Pyrphoros.jpg. Of course those highlights are a sharp, but I stylized it there for the picture, usually it's pretty smooth.
Watching your tut gave me the idea of trying the method in my mini's more. Usually my shadows aren't contrasty enough.

Edit* Actually, here's this morning's toil. I'm sort of a newbie when it comes to painting, so I'm actually pretty happy with the results. The gums look a little like lipstick, which I know you warned us against in the tutorial. Also I didn't have all the right shades of green, I ended up blending orkhide shade and goblin green into my best guess at Snot green and Dark Angels Green. Same for the brown in the teeth, and I ended up having to use gryphon sepiea instead of the mud wash. I guess in the end its not exactly your recipe, but I tried to stick to your technique for applying the highlights as best I could.
This is a great tutorial. As a newbie to mini painting, I was hoping you, or any other poster could suggest to me the best brushes (I am assuming Sabel unless anyone thinks otherwise?) and the size of the brush. I know that much of this comes with preference and experience, but I am looking for a good standard to start with. I am going to employ this method immediately to my orks as I really like the end result of your minis!
@Goboth: My citadel brushes recently "ran out" (after you've used them for a long time they start to lose hairs and get bad), but since you're not required to use their brushes per say, I just decided to buy some in the art store (where I get a discount, being an illustration student haha). -The- best brushes on the market are -absolutely- kolinsky sable hair brushes. They're tough and springy, two things you definitely need for miniature painting. I've used synthetic brushes for a while, but I've found they feather way too much and you end up getting paint in places where you don't want it. Kolinsky brushes keep the hairs together tightly, making for perfect brush strokes time and time again. I would also recommend buying brushes with rather short hairs, as longer brushes can easily get in the way and smear paint on an arm while you're trying to do the torso, for example. Shorter ones are more percise. And when it comes to general size, you want one of the smallest you can get. Usually number 0, 1 or 2... Get yourself a nice selection and see which one you like best!

Put a wash of thraka green on it; this will darken and blend the colors very well, and then you can put another layer of goblin green on the old, darker area.
Thats what I do after I have painted the skin catattafishs way, because I dont get it to look great directly; I always have too fix things over and over again to get a good result.

Hordes of Orks lay dead , their corpses strewn across the ground in numbers only matched by the corpses of the opposing Tyranid broods. The only forces left standing were a handful of teks and a lone warboss. The warboss had lost countless looted rhinos, predators, baneblades, and even a warhonud titan. While pondering his massive loss, he noticed a lone surviving Tyranid; a badly damaged carnifex. In a stroke of random genius , he ordered the surviving teks to, not kill, but revive the fallen carnifex. It took them merely two hours for a squig was a perfect replacement for a brain and spare parts were abundant. The teks succeeded in looting a biological specimen! The Warboss (later to be known as the founder of the Insekt Ridaz), the battle hardened teks, and their new pet lived to fight another battle. They later went on to form the Insekt Ridaz, a minute group of Orks with a passion for looting Tryanids and eventually, even other biological specimens.
Thanks for taking the time to post this video man It's just the inspiration i needed to start painting my AoBR Orks (didn't really know where to start before, as i don't wanna mess them up) I'll definitely be giving it a bash as soon as i get more colours (only have catachan & goblin greens.....scorched brown, graveyard earth & skull white atm) I have more colours, just not ones i could use for Ork skin.........oh and thanks again
