so i went down to my LGS and bought the AoBR painting set and i got the ultramarines put together and base coated them black i let it dry i got a better brush and used it to paint the blue and noticed that the blue was not ultramarines blue and more dark so i painted it and let it dry and its black again. Also when i drybrushed the gun and powerpack it made it dark grey instead of silvery and gunmetal.
So the question is did i buy a faulty item

What colors do the paint pots say? You may have gotten a faulty pack, or you may have gotten a foundations set. Did you shake them up first? Again, name the colors and we can tell you. Regal blue may have gone dark again on a black undercoat, and the metals may be greyer if you didn't shake them up for the first use.

If it was this Paint you bought.
Then yes, this is the worst piece of gak paint you could ever have put your hands on. Get the real Citidal paint instead . (Sorry the language)
Oh and if you wanna paint Ultramarines, then don't buy the Citidal colour ''Ultramarine Blue'' It's actually more purple then blue. Get Enchanted blue instead.
Hope this helped a bit

I am not sure what color comes in the actual paint set, but it may be mordian blue. It is pretty dark if you are comparing it a color like Ultramarine Blue or Enchanted Blue that has been mentioned in the previous posts.
EDIT: I just checked out the product on GWs site, it is Mordian Blue. From my painting experience, it goes on really dark. If you intend to wash the mini with any kind of ink, I would recommend using a much lighter color. I have washed Mordian Blue with GWs Badab Black and it put the miniature closer to the shade of the Crimson Fist chapter. Needless to say, it was not my aim and resulted in me stripping the model.

Well don't feel down. Maybe you lost a few bucks on some paint that you should really throw away. It's really that bad. Or. You could maybe empty them and use them later to mix your own colours
Anyway. If you wanna collect Chaos Space Marines then you can still use your current Marines, when you get more Chaos Marines your bitz and Chaos leftovers items will get bigger and then you can easy convert some ordinary Marines to chaos
And if you already used some of that bad paint on your marines then you can easy strip the paint by using ''King Cracklers'' awesome guide here.

Hope it helped
