Well it is easy to get a bit snippy when there was a box set where you get models for ~$60 that they later sell for over $100.
With the added bonus that for many the "deal" sold out prior to them even looking at it.
What would make it extra painful (or would that be for bonus points?) is if each configuration of the terrain has special rules for them.
That would be a prior GW move (armored cargo containers with random cargo and twin storm bolters anyone?)
So then my mixing and matching and gluing things down would feel like a mistake.
Yeah, that would get me all a' rage inappropriately about models.

Grot 6 wrote:The running joke is "Build something like this for half of the cost- Like we have already been doing for years." I took particular amounts of dig for buying one of the two hooks an ladders sets of the Galvatroic Megalopogus Thingamajigs and the !@#$ I took for buying it was legendary, even for this particular group of Grognards.
THESE boxed sets are going to be seriously augmented with multiple trips to the local Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and AC Moore Crafts stores.
Stock up on Woodland Scenic's materials, and kitbash the GW sets- Because, at the end of the day- THESE are some seriously lacking deficient kits, that need individualization in the worst of ways.
Gosh Grot, normally I agree with a lot of your sentiments, but these kits are the best terrain GW has put out in years - definitely the best sci-fi terrain, up there with the awesome Warhammer buildings they made in 2006-2007.
I can see how you can say they are seriously lacking deficient kits if you only build what's on the box. But these kits are hyper modular, and beautifully so. They're like adult legos.
I built and assembled the terrain in my SWA box and had so much fun that I bought one each of the available sets and started going crazy. Here's what I did last night.
I once again had so much fun that I am planning on getting a couple more kits, and I am definitely going multi-level. And I seriously cannot believe how excited I am to be spending money on a 40k kit when I haven't bought anything since basically 4th/5th edition!
... and I'm a huge terrain builder (my usual motto is that at least 50% of a project's time and money should be spent on terrain), and nothing in Woodland Scenics or Plastcraft will be able to match these kits.

Good value for their money? GW has always put their plastic kits out for very high prices, all the way back to the late 1980s. What we have here is a box set that went for an amazingly steep discount compared to their usual price points and it sold out because everybody and their brother jumped on it. Raging at GW and trashing them over the regular price points completely misses the fact that this is the same GW which sold a steeply discounted box of cool stuff in the first place. Wow. Such GW. Much Greed.
Talizvar wrote:Well it is easy to get a bit snippy when there was a box set where you get models for ~$60 that they later sell for over $100.

But discounts don't go on forever, do they? It was clear that after the discount box there would be regular boxes at the regular price points. GW never lied to or tricked anyone about what was going to happen. It was your fellow gamers who piled on when the pre-orders went live. It's your fellow gamers who are parting out the contents of those boxes and selling them on eBay for double the price. That's your fellow gamer being greedy. Now you're standing in your LFGS looking at the prospect of paying full price for that plastic and it ain't fair, is it? But that hardly translates into GW taking "a great idea and crap all over it for the greed."

Yeah ... not seeing any real basis for Grot6's complaint. I mean, if the issue is "I coulda built it muhself" well ... you certainly knew that before you bought them. I build a lot of terrain. Terrain may well be my favorite part of the hobby end of miniatures gaming. I love these new kits. There is nothing remotely as good on the market. Neither are they cheap! Again, no surprise! Grot6, sorry your buds tease you about buying cool stuff ...

With my whole post, that is all that you got out of it?
Come on, Mr Hyperbole, there is no need for clever quips. I'm just personally cheezed at the price for the product in question, the added discussion was for the lack of value in 4 sprues for 75.00, also my opinion.
Judgedoug is absolutely correct in his assessment, THESE sets are to date, the best kits ever made by GW, but it doesn't negate the fact that they are some of the most expensive sprues on the market.
Hell, I just dropped 120.00 for a Deathwatch/ Genestealer cult boxed game, the lack of value in a 75.00 kit when you don't even get a few minis in it is so obvious that even you can see the issue that I have. Hate has nothing to do with it, we ( as in the crowd that I have fun discussing this stuff with) have our own opinions, and even with your sad attempt at funny, those opinions are seriously the focus of discussion.
My issue with the kits is that they are OVERPRICED terrain sets. The only reason was greedy, and it's not like they would not sell two to four times as much for a simple 40- 50 buck range across the board.
Your going to have to get some additional perforated cardstock, or wire mesh, or plasticard metal plating for add ons, so you can break up the sets and get value out of them and make the sets go farther for the investment. If you want to use them lego style, that is entirely a great decision, and one that I will also be doing, ( When I go get a couple more of these walkway sets... for 75 bucks each- 75+ 75+ 75+... 75... )
How much do you make that you can throw 75 bucks X 3-5 boxs at, again?

Basis of the issue that I have is that the kits are just overpriced. I will be spreading the love over 5-10 1 foot squares for permanent kit-bashes. 1 box over 2-4 of the squares, is pretty good.
On a "Leaving it off at a high note"= I am seeing the logic in Judgedoug's idea of using them as legos, though... They have indeed come a long way from perforated card stock, and plastic bulkheads.
I probably will be getting one of the sets will have to be used in that way, along with some balsa wood and bitz for extensions and walkways. I have seen the pic over at the local shops GW ordering website, in future stuff. Save your money, they have a couple more coming in the next couple of months that we haven't talked about just yet... ( THEN, you will really understand frustration on gotta catch them all... )

Crane looks good another thing to add to the shopping list probably stick it on a tower I have some Battlezone X frames spare. I like that they have kept the grim dark to a minimum on these kits and what there is is easy to remove or cover up if you don't play 40k ( I even managed to remove the big skull from the reactors without much trouble) although I did order the SWA book so GW might lure me back yet.
The industrial bases didn't show up in picture form yet did they?

Doc's has a combo deal of the first three sets (so 8 sprues) for $129. The SWA box set came with 7 sprues. So you miss out on minis and rulebook but get an extra sprue.
