With only one week away, I'm starting to finalize my list for this next weeks semi-finals. I got into the semi-finals of 'Ard Boyz with a Draigowing. But after seeing the competition and the scenario's I decided to switch it to a more balanced Crowe list, to be able to hold those pivotal objectives.
HQ ~Crowe
HQ ~LIbrarian with Might of Titan, Sanctuary, and The Shrouding.
TR ~10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 halberds. Dedicated Razorback
TR ~10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 halberds. Dedicated Razorback
TR ~10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 halberds. Dedicated Razorback
TR ~10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 halberds. Dedicated Razorback
TR ~10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 halberds. Dedicated Razorback
TR ~10 Strike Squad with 2 Psycannons
HV ~ Psyfilemen Dread w/ 2 Autocannons Psybolt Ammo
HV ~ Psyfilemen Dread w/ 2 Autocannons Psybolt Ammo
~2,490
So I have 10 points left which I could easily find a place for I just haven't play tested dozer blades enough yet.
The strategy inquires a lot of screening with the Razorbacks and essentially castle in the center of the board. Shoot alot and then have 12 scoring units if need be.
My known opponents are:
3 Tyranids
2 Guard (Mech equivalent)
2 Orks, one Kan wall and the other is a battlewagon/nob biker list.
1 Necron Heavy Destroyer list
1 Dark Eldar Wych Spam with 3 Ravagers yadda yadda yadda
1 Grey Knight Draigo thing, not really sure how he got here but, whatever.
1 Daemon Fatecrusher (I don't think it needs explaining).
Any comments or advice for running a list like this would be greatly appreciated and criticisms equally so.
~ Thanks for reading!

Killer mid field firepower but once the dreads go down, you are hosed for long range fire support. You really don't need 6 10 man scoring units for the scenarios IMO so maybe drop the strike squad and upgrade the razorbacks to lascannon ones or something else?

Pretty weak actually.
The Grey Knight codex isnt "all about the Purifiers". They're not an 'auto-win' button.

Sure but they are pretty good though, they are very good in close combat and shooting as well so you get quite a good bang for your buck with them. I think any VERY shooty army (IG, BA, SW or more shooty GK) would pretty much kill this army if played right but it still looks fun and like it could do well! With shrouding the army should be able to stand up to most of the long range shooting.

They're 'decent' in CC but most dedicated CC units can kill the crap out of them in short order.
I faced off against a purifier list at NOVA with my Henchman list. I had a DCA unit of 6 with a Libby pwn 3 units of purifiers mid feild in CC. Cleansing flame is a joke to real dedicated hth. (he never got cleansing flame off thanx to Aegis within 12" of one of my dreads)
If you play this armies game then yea, of course you're going to get shot to death then finished off in hth. Outrange it picking on the transports then outmaneuver it. Pretty easy rd to victory. I don't see a properly run Dark Eldar army having much problem with this list. Not at all. Right circumstances guard gunline will have a feild day. Most Blood Angel armies I'm used to fighting wouldnt have a tough time either if played properly.
Psycannons are awesome. Halberds on Purifiers are great too....but this army simply has no versatility. It's psycannons and halberds....thats it. Boring, easy to see where the threat is. That means it's easy to outmaneuver....especially with a speedy army or an army that can bust armour and has tougher transports that AV11.
Nope, don't like it. More needed than spam.

I like this list a lot. It really shows what grey knights are all about. Not specatular in shooting or CC, but beats average on both levels. I mean 88 psycannon shots at 24"...that will take care of any MC or heavy infantry in no time. Horde armies will just fall apart 1 guy is all it takes. The rhinos act as a screening mechanism against long range shots and shrouding adds to the little survivability to those piece of moving terrain (which rhinos really have always been).
If anything this army has it's options. It can castle, it can turtle, it can be a very good assaulting force, or a decent shooting force. The only suggestion I have is to make the razor backs into rhinos for added mobility. That way you are not forced to combat squad just to hitch a ride. It would also make it a viable objective taking list with some added survivablity per squad.
The thing that I like the most is that there is no obvious unit. I hate deathstar units and find that the rest of the list suffers just to have 1 great unit. I have to diagree with deadshane1 and say that each and every unit has the ability to shoot great and assault just as great, but the player needs the finesse to know when to go heavy, when hammerhand is needed, and to know target priority of as assault army or a shooty army. I might be a bit bad on tactics but, I ask though, where is the obvious threat?

I would do this: HQ: Castellan Crowe - 150 Troops: 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons in rhino - 340 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons in rhino - 340 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons in rhino - 340 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons in rhino - 340 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons in rhino - 340 10 man purifier with 4 psycannons - 300 Heavy Support: Land Raider -255 95 left points for random upgrades. Most of you would think this lacks anti-tank, but if you move flat out, you can rely on the rending rolls of the psycannons Also. can you give me your draigowing list? I've heard of how fun it is and really want to try it out

lol, they have a 24" range army and halberd guys that want to assault you. Shoot the vehicles and this army has to run to you. Foot slogging purifiers die just as fast as any other marine in the open. Dark eldar with night shrouds would lower the range to 18" ouch!

Why would they want to assault a dark eldar army? Granted, DE can be decent at range... but would someone bring a shooty DE army to 2nd round ard boyz? probably not (especially with the scenarios the way they are). Purifiers are not merely an assaulty unit. They can shoot 16 psycannon shots at 24". You have night shrouds! They can shoot 8, str 7, rending at 24". They can move and shoot.
You can name off any specific army that would take care of this list, but the list you make will not be all comers.
And they die nothing like a regualr SM. Use rhinos/ razorbacks as cover then caste shrouding. 3+ cover. Who cares if the rhinos die? Just like 4th and 3rd ed. the rhino rush tactic means that just having them they do their job as moving pieces of terrain shielding shots and maybe even the perk of getting to move them.

I think you misunderstood. Night shroud reduces your range by 6" making all of your weapons 18". Why would a dark eldar player assault you they are one of the best shooting armies around right now vs marines with 2 splinter cannons per venom that is 12 shots a turn that are 4+ poison at 36in range. They can move and still shoot as well as all their vehicles are fast. You might not even do any damage to a well ran dark eldar army. Just food for thought.
As for if someone would take it read the OP. 1 Dark Eldar Wych Spam with 3 Ravagers yadda yadda yadda

I personally don't see this list being effective at all. It's like a razorback spam without the bang. I too made it to the semi finals and I can see myself blowing this list apart with my IG. While the shrouding may help you out with survivability a +6 save in the open doesn't help much. On my first turn all of your guys would be running at me with angry sticks. I'd suggest trying a list leaning more towards deepstrike. IMO Crowe is the worst HQ choice in that codex, he's not an IC and he can't deepstrike. He's a good 1 man tar pit though. That's about it.

funny thing is I am probably switching to draigowing for semis from purifiers lol.
Don't bring the razorbacks...it is pointless. You can't out spam the SW and BA versions of the list so it is really an exercise in futility there. Even with S6 the hvy bolters just become overkill on infantry and remain ineffective against most armor. With our point cost to bring purifiers it is also ineffective to bring las/ plas etc simply because you can't bring enough purifier squads and still have the points to round out the list.
Really need to look at MSU the purifier squads and pillboxing them in rhinos. Then bring more dreads for fire support and maybe even a terminator squad to give you a beefier scoring squad the libby can run with.
If you knock the purifiers down to squads of 7 you can still bring 2 psycannons, 4 halberds, and 1 hammer in a rhino and bring 5 of them. Then drop the strikes for a terminator unit with Thawn and add the libby to it. Use thawn to soak ID fire until he dies and use your termies to sit on objectives etc and benefit from 2+ armor / 3+ cover saves. Using the points saved you can field a Ven dread to provide you with the additional psychic defense along with a very hard to kill vehicle to contest or just provide long range fire. You could also look to add a tech marine as a grenade caddy to the terminators....who could potentially then end up with 2+ armor / 2+ cover saves for part of the game.
I know this "only" provides 6 scoring units....but they are actually protected in their transports and 1 of them is much harder to kill with both shooting and CC. Having 60 foot slogging MEQ may seem like it will take a long time to deal with....but ultimately this is Ard Boyz and IG will be launching 3-5 S10 large blast per turn at you along with showering you in plasma and melta guns..... BA can bring just as nasty CC and SW can out gunline with the longfangs and the razorspam. If you combat squad to 12 scoring units.....u will just hurt yourself in the long run. Scenario 1 has no need for troops past one have them needing to be your messenger so you won't be CSing. Scenario 2 is the only case...but 5 purifiers are very easy to kill especially when they are on foot. Scenario 3.....well who knows here...you CS and get quarters or terrain and it may help but still have very fragile 5man squads on foot (least half of them would end up on foot)....if you get kill points and you CS'd GG you just gave up a free massacre. Automatically Appended Next Post: dreadknightl wrote:You could try moving the rhinos flat out
You can't shoot if the vehicles moves beyond 6" without them getting out and losing the main reason they are in there...for a turn or 2 of protection.
Also the list you posted has the right idea will using the rhinos as mobile pillboxes...but not reason to put 4 psycannons in the squad when there is only 2 firing points on a rhino. Downgrading to less guys with 2 psycannons frees points for more dreads which equals more long range firepower to shutdown the biggest threats against your rhinos when moving forward.

The op had razorbacks. That is no fire ports purely a transport for the combat guys! This list will need cover to survive making it across the board!

Thanks everybody for the discussion, alot of viewpoints I usually don't look at. And I like it!
Here are a couple things, I usually combat squad almost every squad if I can. That means I have alot of small units that I can feed assaulty armies, and also have many tactical options. That being said I won't be able to do that in the first round. This army is fearless, which is a small advantage that I do have against draigowing. I do know however that extremely shooty lists will decimate me first turn. Which they should that is what shooty lists are designed to do. The problem is however, I am also very shooty. I think I have somewhere around the mark of 88/44 str7 psycannon shots 9 twinlinked str 5 shots, 76 str 4 shots. 8 twinlinked str8 shots. Don't get me wrong, that isn't that much compared to blasts and all that. But I do dominate the 24'' mark. The Razorbacks are purely there so I don't get shot up first turn, and then to leave a good amount of terrain when they die. And my deployement will allow me to get better than a 6+ I assure you.
~Crowe, on a purely statline basis, is a terrible HQ but after making purifiers troop choices he is well worth it at this point level. AND he is a Hero Killer, and extremely good at it. Draigo is afraid of Crowe. and he should be.
~Dark Eldar, I do have a problem with the Nightshields, they make my limited range shorter. That being said, assaulting me isn't a sure thing, they won't necessarily win combat. and if they do I'll take some fearless saves and hopefully make them. But shooting raiders down, even with a 4+ cover is slightly difficult. And this is where I'll need to practice extreme target priority. And I do have a plan for the Dark Eldar, I know the guy alright and I might have to practice some psychological stuff for victory. lol
~Changes to the list, I was thinking about dropping one of the squads of purifiers for two more dreads. So I can really drop the transports I'll be facing. And it will leave me enough points to get psybolt ammo and dozer blades on all the razorbacks/rhinos
~Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I played Vulkan/Lysander first round and barely got a major. Played Space wolves in the second, and I literally was an inch away from getting a massacre (facepalmed) It was a mech guard list that beat me, 6 vendetta's squadrons of two, 4 demolishers, 3 hydra's. It was kinda of funny, I never lost more that a thousand points of models. Killed Lysander from an exploding dreadnaught, Killed Vulkan, Njal, and a Thunderwolf Cavalry Wolf Lord with my psycannons in close combat. Hilarious. I had a really good time, but the last game frustrated me pretty bad. I mean the guy took 45 minutes to deploy. Come on. Mech Dark Eldar, (a friend of mine) took first, Mech Guard (also a good friend of mine) took second. And my third round opponent got third. Rage /quite/ a little bit. I should've seen what he was doing before it was too late.
