Hey Guys

so I'm very new to Dakka Dakka but already loving it. so here is another of my long unanswered questions that I can finally voice!

anyone know of any Loyalist marines(of high rank) from the time of the HH to still be around in current fluff/novels?

I know there are rumours of Nathaniel Garro of the death guard still out kicking ass.

but It would be great to find a loyal character from HH novels I can purchase and use in the modern game.

any insight would be lovely.

cheers

I think they made Primarch miniatures long long ago but the only character I can think of is Bjorn the Fell Handed which is a dreadnought.

The Traitors spent those 10,000 years in the EoT which is essentially the warp bleeding into realspace. It kinda messes with time a bit.

Primarch's would be great... but they wouldnt be sancitioned by GW or anyone for use in tounements... and besides that... what would the weapon skill and such of a model so powerful be? never mind the points cost!

Never mind 'Nivea Anti-Ageing Cream' eh! good ol' Eye of Terror FTW

Cypher. Just because he is(was?) in the Choas codex doesn't actually mean he's a traitor. He's in Green Armor, carries but never draws the sword of the Lion and is headed to Terra. We all know that the IoM now and the IoM under big E are night and day. Perhaps Cypher is the ultimate loyalist.

He hasn't gone senile because Imperial Dreads sleep when they're not being used. Bjorn is only really roused in emergencies, though you wouldn't know it based on how often you see him in lists.

As to Primarch models, I am positive that I once saw one in a Games Workshop catalog. (Although there are no rules for them, obviously.)

There was the Rogue Trader Leman Russ with Freki and Geri, as well as Angron, Magnus, Fulgim, and Mortarion for Epic in their daemon forms.

They also had conversion kits for the daemon Primarchs that they sold through Troll in the early 2000's.

The only 28mm primarch model Citadel ever produced was Leman Russ around 1990; they also made some really quite terrible models of the 'big four' traitor primarchs for 2nd Edition Epic.

On moon miranda.

Leman Russ had a model, but he also wasn't a Primarch then, merely a 41st century Imperial Commander. There was some Primarch models for Epic. IIRC those are the only models for such characters ever made.

As for Heresy Era loyalists, it's pretty much just Bjorn and he's a bit loopy and only rarely wakened. The CSM's get away with it because the Eye of Terror doesn't have the same timescale as realspace and quite often CSM's can die many times within the Eye and be right back the next day if it amuses the powers of Chaos, not to mention having access to more esoteric medical..."options" and fewer moral restrictions in their employment.

Retro timewarp!!!

I remember those guys

I still have the epic-scale Magnus, though he sees more use in D and D than GW games these days

I'd not be shocked if there were a few Heresy era or earlier ships full of marines lost in one timewarp or another, but aside from that Bjorn is about it, barring those kept on ice in stasis fields etc

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...

I'm almost 100% sure I'm wrong but I think Cypher has remained in the timeline continuously.

Thank you; it's nice to feel appreciated!

To answer your question, there's been little published even in game materials covering the interim between the 30th millennium and the 40th. It would not be unreasonable to speculate, however, that once the Horus Heresy has been completed in print, Black Library might turn to other epochs - The Nova Terra Interregnum and Age of Apostasy, for instance, are crying out for some novels.

In the salamanders books there was a marine from the horus heresy that they found still alive on a world in a vault where he had guarded his brothers armour and stuff. He wasn't in good shape though his armour had siezed up completely and his muscles had all atrophied and he was kind of going senile.

Agreed! On that topic is there any word on when the HH series will actually start finishing up... If they draw it out as much as I think they may im not sure it will remain as interesting or popular.

And since you seem a knowledgeable chap how would I use dakka to find Edinburgh folk to game with?

The help is much appreciated

Wow, really?

Templar knight = Lion el Johnson
Berserk = angron
Phoenix knight = Fulgrim
Millenium knight = Girlyman
Castellan knight = Dorn
Preacher = Lorgar
Gorgon = Perturabo
Gothic = Corax

They just left out the Warhammer 40k Iconography and names so GW wouldn't drag their asses to court.

All we know for sure is that the heresy lasted for something like seven years (older material is less specific - 'less than a decade'). I'm likewise living in hope the Black Library will start to draw things towards their inevitable conclusion at Terra sooner rather than later; the series' returns are beginning to diminish for me.

So far as finding fellow gamers goes, try poking around on here, as well as on Warseer and Bolter & Chainsword. Otherwise, if you haven't, try the Edinburgh University Wargames Society, I haven't been in years, but they used to meet in Teviot Row Union.
