CorSec Engineering has released the Omni-Ruler. Create a ruler of any length and change it as often as you want. Each 1" section screws together and with the addition of an End Cap creates a handy ruler that fits your needs.
Each 1" sections comes in three colors. Gold, Black, and Aluminum
1" Sections are $0.49 each.
End Caps are $0.75 each
The sections are made from aluminum so the are light weight and durable. We have tested them out to 60" and they hold together with little bowing.

Do they work well with a newspaper hat and pillowcase cape if one wanted to, for instance, pretend to be a wizard?

I don't see a need for this item. I'm not trying to be negative, but what is the point? What will this do that a ruler or tape measure cannot? Also, it's way too expensive at $0.49 per inch. I can get a 12' tape measure for $3.00 at Wal-Mart. This system would cost me over $70.00 for 12'. I know most games don't require you to measure 12', but the tape is cheaper, lighter, and flexible.

Eh, I don't know, there are plenty of distances that are measured with enough frequency that having a couple of these set up at the required lengths would be handy in a game.
Also it's thin enough without (presumably) being flexible that it's useful for determining LOS and similar.

It's interesting... would let you get exact odd distances. I'm thinking of charge distances in Hordes, which can be critical... but it does seem pretty clunky to be screwing and unscrewing the sections!
I like the idea, just not sure where it fits in or totally sold on the execution. Wizarding wand use excepted (not a bad idea)

These are really designed for games that use a lot of specific measurements. Things like command distance or movement.
If you need to measure 1" to 12' use a tape measure. If you need to measure 8" over and over again then use an Omni-Ruler. I personally plan to use them as a collapsible range band stick for Firestorm Armada. 32" is ~$16 so most people will not use that many. I kinda get a discount .

Automatically Appended Next Post: @ RiTides You only need to assemble the ruler once. If you need several specific ranges then use a different color to designate whatever you need. Make a 12" one with a black 3" and 7" mark or whatever you need.

yeah,
Not seeing the need for this...
40k has always been well served with the tactcal/range/whatever brand templates..
2inch Coherance
4inch vehicle Coherance
6inch Movement
1inch away from enemy models
The other common measurances 12" 24" 36" 48" and 72" ... all well served by a tape Measure
Or am I missing something?

40k is not necessarily the game that would get the most use out of this product. Spartan Games various offerings would make good use of one though as you need to keep measuring range bands in 8" increments and this would speed up the process compared to a tape measure. Of course, you could do what I did and paint up a piece of 1/2" dowling in 8" bands but this is a higher quality product, and particularly with a game like, say, Dystopian Wars, I could appreciate the extra weight and metallic nature of the product would really add to the atmosphere of the game.
In the end, its a bit like themed dice (something I'm a sucker for!). You can easily get away without the product, but if you are that way inclined it could add to the enjoyment of the playing experience!

If it was really clever it would have a section with a hole in the side to screw into a length of the "rod". The T would be easier to hold while measuring small distances like coherency for example.

Hmmm, that looks like metal sections; it looks like whippy-sticks just got lethal!
Sorry but I’ll go with Panic on this one, the templates that you can get (I have the FoW one that I use for all games) are just so handy that I struggle to see the point in having this.
I do concede though that there may well be games where this might be handy - I just don't have/play them.

Those should be nice for those games that require you to measure the same small distance over and over again... they would be even better if they had carved the half inch on the middle of each segment... these are also a lot more resistant and easy to pack than those damn plastic templates.

With the 3 colours, this looks a good idea.
But, after reading this, I might just stick bits of tape at certain points along my gaming tape measure.
Same result, but as I only play 40k, I don't have the need for one yet.

This product line isn't designed for everyone. There are thousands of games that GF9 and Litko will never make a template for. The Omni-Ruler will help those players get the equivalent of a laser cut template.
On top of that, It is cheaper to make a 2",3",4" and a 6" ruler then it is to buy the GF9 FOW template. You can easily color code the rulers or have one ruler with specific sections colored.

There is alot less screwing and unscrewing to use the TAC template though and I just flip the TAC template to a different side. Plus the TAC has a 6" ruler so you can do intermediate distances by flipping it over.
Cheaper not always better if it doesn't functionally work as well.

Since your specifially calling out the GF9 FOW template, it may be cheaper to do it "your" way but "your" way doesn't include all of the handy ratings and information that the tac template does...

There are several historical games that use 'base widths' for measurement. This type of product would be great for those games, except that these measure 1" in length. Fine if you have 1" base lengths, but for 15mm or 10mm, typically base widths are 20mm.
If you were able to offer these in varying lengths (or maybe a couple of popular lengths), you might be on to something.
I know my balsa wood 'base width' measuring stick could use a replacement.
The different colors are also very nice options.
I'm liking the products you have.

Put that way it does seem like it could be useful for the right game, so my apologies if any comments were overly critical Mr Bowen.
I don't have personal gaming need for this but may buy it to fend off prying hands from painted minis.

@ cruentus
More colors are on the way. Working on several very nice metallic colors. Alternative base widths are also in the works. I hope to have at least 40mm. Ancients are not very popular around here so its hard to get a good idea of what is needed.
@notprop
Critical feedback is good. Now that TMP's news process is dead, I need someplace to get feedback. Our products are sometimes a little hard to understand. Your comments and feedback help us to understand where to put out efforts for educating our customer base. Our recent run of Omni-Stand tutorials is a good example. It also helps us revise the products to make them better over time.

@coresec - thanks for the info and further explanation.
I think that 40mm would be a good length (and I did mean 40mm, don't know why I said 20). That is a fairly popular width in historicals. From there I'd just take suggestions until you reach a critical mass for other sizes.
When these hit, I'll be looking to get some as well as some flight stands.

Just found out that shipping in US is $5.25 but outside US will be $14.95! Thats over double what I would actually pay for the 12" that I want so I'll be sticking with my tape measures for now (which is a shame as I really like the idea...).

We ship everything US Postal Priority Flat Rate. US shipping is $5.25 and international is $13.95. We are not comfortable shipping lower then priority. It is too easy for packages to disappear and we have no way to track them.
The 13.95 is our cost to ship items to any international location.
