Ok sorry, I know this is a very stupid question, but I ask it for several reasons. 1. I dont want to argue with my friend anymore. 2. I am too poor to buy a 4th ed rule book. 3. No where near where I could get one anyway.

I guess my friend has downloaded the army builder program or the 4th ed rule book and keeps telling me that depending on how much pts you use depends on how many HQs you must have.  1-750 = 1 HQ,  751-1500 = 2 HQ, 1501-2250....you get the idea. From what I remember of 3rd is you need a min. of 1 and a max of 2, but you never need to take two. So how does 4th work am I stupid or is my friend....thanks

Why the hell can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they attempt to take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because paper can't beat anybody, a rock would tear that gak up in 2 seconds. When I play rock/ paper/ scissors, I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, oh gak, I'm sorry, I thought paper would protect you, you donkey-cave.

Yet you will be spending hundreds of dollars on miniatures instead? If you can afford to play the game at all, you can afford the rulebook.

Well Space Marines can have more HQ choice in Command squads but thats another story for another thread. Plus that has nothing to do with points being played either.

I know the rules. Do you?

Umm no. Space Marines can only have 2 HQs (save Space Puppies) but can have more than one charachter in a command squad (must be a chappy or lib or both).

Black templars can have 2 HQ choices plus the Emp's Chum (does not count as an HQ.

Those are the rules.

BTW which army is he playing?

Sorry Negativemoney. I didn't call the HQ choices characters. I should have said "You can have more than one IC in a HQ squad."

Not really... as you've been corrected, the number of ICs in an HQ slot has no bearing on how many HQs you can have any more than the number of speeders in a squadron has any bearing on the number of Fast Attack choices you can have.

Hmm. Lets see. Chaplains a HQ. Master is a HQ. Librarian is a HQ. I have a Chaplain/Master in one squad and Chaplain/Librians in another squad. How many HQ's do you have? I have 2 HQ's with a total of 4 HQ choices. It's how I look at it. You say tomAto, i say potAto.

I thought a Command Squad was an add-on for a character, so even if you have two characters and one squad it still counts as two HQ choices, so a third character wouldn't be allowed?

You're listing ICs; a HQ is whatever takes the HQ slot. If, like in this example, an option allows you to take multiple ICs in one HQ slot, you don't have 4 HQ choices; you have 4 ICs in 2 HQ choices.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Lord_sutekh is correct multiple ICs in one squad are still 1 HQ choice.

The way the initial question was phrased was if a game is worth a certain amount of points how many HQs can be taken. HQs refer to slot on the force organization chart not the list entry where the model is found. If I take a LRD with my BT command squad would that count as a Heavy if its part of the list entry? The answer is no.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I have a suggestion for you.  Look on Ebay for the set of books from the Battle for Mcragee set.  I got sick of lugging around that big hardcover book, and for $20 bucks I picked up the mini rule book.

Hope that helps.
