Same concept as the old Wings of War or the new Wing of Glory by Ares Games. Most important, the game will be supported by a range of PAINTED and ASSEMBLED 1/1200 miniatures. Link: http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2011/09/29/50939/comment-page-1/#comment-68876

For those who are interested in GW's Dreadfleet, you may want to wait for this Wing of Glory instead. Unless, you want to assemble and paint the miniatures in Dreadfleet, I see no point of getting this GW product for gameplay alone.

Yay! More pre-painted toot!

And love the way you suggest an integral part of the hobby is somehow inexplicable!

Though having said that, if the models are any cop, and not overtly steampunk (I don't like Steampunk) I shall certainly take a gander.

It appears to be a historical game, so no steampunk.

Or indeed the assumption that if you're interested in a boxed, self-contained, fantasy naval game, that you'll immediately drop it in exchange for a collectible-miniatures-based, realistic naval game with different rules

Still, sounds interesting - there's always room for new systems!

So at 1/1200 scale... the largest galleons would be about 5cm long, correct?

Sounds about right
HMS Victory would be 2 1/4" long if my maths is correct

It's only integral if you believe GW's spiel about 3 hobbies being 1 hobby.

I spend much more time getting my models ready than playing. And I enjoy every second of it, so yes, it's integral part of this hobby.

So integral that people actively search out pre-assembled and/or pre-painted models, have some one assemble and/or paint things for them(or just have an army of base plastic and metal forever), or use internet programs that don't require models at all to play!

The only integral part is that at some point, if you require the models, they must be wholly assembled, there's no rule or law stating that YOU must do it.

The hobby of playing =/= the hobby of putting models together OR the hobby of painting models. None of the 3 are necessarily integral to the other. You and I CHOOSE to do the three together, that doesn't make them a single entity with a requirement that by doing one, you MUST do the others.

Again, it's ONLY integral if you buy GW's definition on "the hobby".

Wings of War WWI plays very well but the WWII version is an epic fail. Lets hope it plays more like the original. Plus, if you think Dread Fleet is expensive you better check out the prices of the Wings of War official planes. If their prices are anything to go by it will make Dread Fleet look like the cheaper option...

Seen the deluxe Wings of War for £50 delivered
Planes are a tenner

So it ain't that bad and sounds about par for the course for games.

So going by their plane prices for ten ships (as you get in Dread Fleet) you'll pay £100 plus the cost of the rules on top of that...

Nope
Rules are in the box afaik plus four aircraft
So presumably the rules will also be in a boxed set of SoG with some ships.

Furthermore you don't have to buy an entire fleet in one go any more than you have to fork out for a 2500 point 40K army up front

I am not saying that a tenner per model is cheap/good value. But that it seems to be in the same ball park as skirmish games that use figures.

I didnt like the WW2 version either, price seems alright too but i am not holding out for anything special.

Its got nothing to do with GW's definition, why keep bringing that into it ?
It is integral to those of us that buy unassembled and unpainted figures to make a unique army, regardless of whether GW sells them to me or some other company.

Somewhere in south-central England.

For me it will depend on the price of the ships.

I already have the world's best Napoleonic naval rules -- Signal Close Action -- but the ships are difficult to assemble with all the rigging and stuff.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

How does that make me a fan boy? Sorry, just remembered your the one who said you 'really want' Sails of Glory else where, without seeing or knowing anything about it and I've dissed it... Now who's the Fan Boy?

WWII plays quite well. One needs a slightly bigger table and it is a little bit deadlier hence one needs some more planes, but that was to be expected with WWII.

Yeah, if this game is pre-paint then I'm steering well clear. Good luck to you though.

Is that the same company that makes this?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Their stuff is very reasonably priced, and I can really see ships taking off.

Think you may be getting the two games mixed up!

Good. Theres at least 2 Steampunk games, thats enough.

Overall I like the sound of this. Ive got enough minis waiting to be done, so games with prepainted minis are a very good thing.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Fair enough...but being that Im not much of a fan of steampunk ( and not really feeling Uncharted Seas) I welcome a more traditional naval game.

I just recently picked up Wings of War and loved it so I am very willing to give the naval game a try.

Also, regarding the price of WoW planes, since they are technically OOP at the moment the price of planes on secondary market sites like eBay has sky rocketed. Once product starts trickling back into the distribution chain those prices should go down. The listed retail price of those planes is not bad at all at $12-15 per model.

If the ships are priced near what the planes sell for I'll be a happy camper.
