I really like the Roman Empire, and I think it would be cool to model one in a warhammer setting, but my question is can i use the minis found at Warlord games? They are 28mm, and look to be the same size. Pretty sure for causal it would be cool, but would i be disqualified from tournements on the off chance i decided to go to one?
Like to the minis http://store.warlordgames.com/plastic-imperial-roman-legionaries-set-80-p.asp

The Empire setting is more or less Germany around 1500 AD, Romans are around 0 AD, so modern soldiers are closer as proxies.

Well i would love to face those neat models.
As for tournaments it varies depending on the TO, and you would clearly be out of GW run tourneys. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kroothwak im dissapointed, letting real world history get in the way of fantasy

I know the Empire is a rip off of the Holy Roman Empire, and is set roughly during the 1500's. But its a game with fantasy elements, maybe a legion got lost here on earth and got teleported to the warhammer setting...
And if its up to a TO i'd most likely do it. And since they arr roughly a 1/3 of what GW charges for its minis, thats another plus in the buy the freaking sweet legionaries column.

The Warlord plastics are going to be smaller than the GW models you are used to - although it should not matter much once the figures are based up.
How would you translate the Romans into Empire units? The Romans come with options for swords or pilum (spears). What are you going to do for greatswords, halberds or free company?

My ideas so far, is to do swordsmen state troops. Not going to take halberds, it doesnt fit my concept. For great swords, I'd thought about using the Praetorian Guard models, which while armed similar to a regular legionnaire will be painted different and be more ornate. If i ran free company it would be as Auxiliaries. For great cannons i was going to use the balista models.
Now i'm only basing the army on Rome, I'm going to work in Warrior priests (since i like the concert, bald monks running around crushing their foes with hammers.) and a wizard. Since it is a fantasy setting and there is always a wizard around to blame stuff on. lol.

I just cringe at the idea of Roman pistoliers, Roman Greatswords, Roman cannons and Roman Steam tanks.
The curse of a good education I guess

Fortunately i will not have pistoliers, cannons or steam tanks. Or handgunners. No gunpowder. And as above my Greatswords will be preatorians. And I will use balista as a counts as great cannon.

Exactly what I was thinking when I read this. It's your army, if you can pull it off and make unit types obvious I say go for it.
