So, the liquid Green Stuff is finally out. Has anyone tried it out? How does it compare to other products?

I saw it used at my FLGS yesterday on the head/body joins of the new WHFB orc boars and it looked superb.
No join visible at all.
He had run it out about 1/2 cm beyond the join and it blended great, all of the fur detail was still there.

This is the first modelling product released by GW that I'll be buying since the washes came out.

It's essentially just a liquid gap filler, yes? Can it stand up to handling at all? How long does it take to set up? How solid will it get? I also saw this stuff and wondered at it's efficiency.

More or less, it's kind of the consistency of jelly.

Yes.

Within 10 minutes on a Forgeworld model.

Pretty close to Resin.

Haven't used it myself yet. But they've been using it at my local store this week.

Got some of this today to fill in gaps in some of my tanks. They are already painted so that'll be an interesting test. I think my first use of it will actually be to repair my girlfriend's glasses...

Does it set hard?

It sounds like an acrylic gesso with a filler included.

Does it sand?

If it set hard and sanded then I could see me getting some over smelly humbrol filler.

There is also a thread in the Dakka Tutorials about liquid greenstuff. It links to a blog review which discusses and compares the various other options of similar products. (oh, and its not my blog)

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/401519.page

It appears its about as sandable as green stuff, and dries to the same consistency (ie not hard).

I'll still be using Squadron green for my filler.
Works easier and the tube costs me the same as the tub of lgs, but has more in it.

So far my FLGS hasn't gotten any in, looking forward to getting a bottle of it to try it out, it seems interesting. I can see many places where I could find it useful, I do hope however that it doesn't dry super fast in the bottle.

Liquid green stuff is an actual putty, but thin, and you can smooth surfaces with it. The other things you mentioned are just thick super glues.

Until it dries, it is water soluble, which means you spread it around with a brush shape it with a brush and clean your brush with water. try brushing super glues with a brush and you will have hairs sticking out of the model and a brush that isn't good for anything anymore. (except maybe poking a cat after it dries)

More goopy than I thought it would be but it's much thinner than squadron green

Squadron green can be thinned (should you need to) with that other product that many plastic modellers have - liquid polystyrene cement (which then allows painting the resulting thinner paste into gaps).

Squadron Green(and White as well) is a nice product, but I cannot stress enough that it requires proper ventilation or you can have side effects. It's important to remember that there's a reason there's a big disclosure on the tube about the presence of Toluene (which is also in Testor's liquid polystyrene cement which they also say to ventilate heavily when using).

Basically right now though, I see myself using liquid greenstuff for smaller things like minor gaps in metal/resin/plastic kits, and Squadron putty for the big daddy issues.

I only use paints, glues and fillers WITH proper ventilation.

Only a muppet wouldn't.

The majority of my painting, gluing and filling is done OUTSIDE in the carport (we don't have a garage - but I do have a lockable modelling cupboard affixed to the wall).

That said, GS has never given me the results I prefer as a filler - which is why I use SG.

Since when does GW paint from a pot give off fumes?

Seen plenty of fuming about the new pots. Does that count?
I think it was other more volatile fillers that were being refered to?

Has anyone got any pictures of an example that has been primed yet? Am wondering how smoothly it blends with the surface of the model. It might look ok with the naked eye but there may be a "tide mark" once paint is applied.

Also how well does it sand down if required

What? Your weather is very predictable.

After finding out this product existed (the shush-shush policy meant I wouldn't have found out till you buggers told me about it), The first thing I did was look for similar things from other companies. Any word on how well any of the other liquid sculpting media work? (like, say, the ones from Vallejo?) I ask because, as usual, its going to be more expensive if its from GW.
