Are the shields freehand/masking or decals?

The shields are hand painted. I love the look of decals, but I really need practice at freehand painting, so no decals it is. The weathering really helps the models look less flat.

Painting these guys has made me realize that I love the Reaper Master Series, and P3 series paints. They really are fantastic.
