Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman

Just entered a painting competition at my local store. The ideas is to paint models in 3 categories: 1 large model, 1 squad (5 or more), 1 single model. Models selected have to be from at least to gaming systems. I've decided to go with my Dark Angels Veteran squad, my Warhammer Chimera, and for the last one I'm doing an Ork Weirdboy. I don't own any Orks, but my friend Thaanos doesn't play any other game system so he's doing Gorros Warhoof for my beastmen and I reciprocated with the Weirdboy for his Orks. Deadline for the competition is November 13th. I'm not the best painter in the world, but it seems that competitions where something is on the line is the only way I can get my lazy ass painting.

But there is no more stirring sight in war than the charge of massed cavalry."

Best of luck to you. It looks like you've already got a nice little vignette in the works for your weirdboy - any interesting plans for basing the rest of the lot? The chimera, at least, has lots of room to work with.

Yeah, I was planning on doing something cool for the chimera, but I can't really decide what. I was thinking of a small volcano(?) that he'd be jumping over with the lava flowing between his legs. Maybe you some source glow lighting on him from the lava. If you have any cool ideas let me know. It really just comes down to time. If the Weirdboy gets done on time, then I should be looking good for the rest of the models. Vet squad shouldn't take me long at all.

Ork Weirdboy is well on his way. Hoping to have him done this week and move on to the vet squad.

Well here is the finished Weirdboy. Took me a lot less time than I thought it would. Time to move onto that vet squad. On a side note, I always hate taking pictures of my models. I find the flash picks out everything in glaring detail and I can't help but start nitpicking my work. Drives me insane. Automatically Appended Next Post: The flash also makes the purity seal look WAY shinier than it is.

So the painting is coming along well, although I keep managing to find ways to distract myself. I've switched gears for a bit from the Vet Squad to the Chimera, mostly because painting the same model over and over is annoying to me. I love doing the individual stuff. Anyway, the Chimera is based and primed and I'm going to get started on him as soon as I can.

Chimera will be green colour scheme. Going to go for a light to dark fade, top to bottom.

I like the nails on the weirdboy. Can't wait to see how you do on the Chimera. Keep it up!

So here is the Chimera. Just need to seal it. All that's left is the Vet Squad. With a week left in the competition, it's a good thing I'm almost done too because work is getting busy this week.

So it's crunch time now. About 14 hours until deadline and I still have to finish the vet squad. I think I'll make it but it's gonna be a long night. Also, Painting a lot of Bleach Bone sucks. I don't know how I'll stay sane while painting my Deathwing later in the year...

Well I'm getting some good progress on the Vet Squad. Had to break them up to get a good paint job on all of the little bits. 12 hours to go. Automatically Appended Next Post: Well it's t-minus 9.5 hours. Going is slow but progress is being made. Now I just have to keep from falling asleep.

Whew! And at 6:35am I'm done. That's just under 5.5 hours until deadline. It almost killed me but I made it. And now to sleep for about 4.5 hours and then get to my LGS.
