Been in a bit of a funny lately, sorry to keep buggering about. Can't seem to settle. Few things, hip and head (mentally) just fubar and can't seem to sink into anything.

With that in mind here is another unfinished project....can't tell you how much this is bothering me.



Plan is to make it and probably convert it to be used as a Taurox stand in, even got a dio in mind for it. Those Aussie Imperial Guard using it in the jungle some place type of thing., Getting bits together for it.

In the mean time I had it sat on my desk so picked it up to have a start at.


Still comes to bits so I can detail the interior.


And a scale shot, ( I don't plan on it being an ork piece yet.)





Really not happy with the base it is on, will definitely be changing that up.

Honestly Cam, I'd keep it as it is and paint/assemble it straight up. Maybe a few modifications based on some historical photos of such vehicles. It doesn't look like it would scale well at all with any 40k minis.

I understand the lack of focus. I haven't done anything hobby related since mid-August. No Mojo for it. I have had a bunch of 1:1 scale projects.

i´m with red on this one...the kit is way too dainty and frail looking for anything really suggesting imperial army...as a taurox stand in it would be (currently way too obvious) so i guess you should do as red say and make as prescription says...


as to the head and fubar thing...can´t tell you really how often i think offline about you and your family and your live...to sum it all up...we all love you...!!! and that´s no sweet talk here!

Cam, I would love to see you convert that truck into a fancy civilian vehicle. I'm still very impressed with that flying limo you made (I think it was for the gene stealer hybrids). I'm sorry to hear that you're not really feeling it, when trying to craft. It happens to us all sometimes, but it's a real loss to the Dakka community when it's you. Don't force yourself though, I expect it will come back naturally, and we'll all get to enjoy your inspired work to the fullest again.

Been working on the house, getting close, couple bits I am not happy with but got to cut it off at some point. Still WIP at the moment though.

i think i´ve mentioned having recently purchased a hotwire cutter...with this i am currently working on many projects that have a slight resemblance to your works...and i too have marveld about worth...measuring effort in money...which i think is a really hard task....and something i am maybe not able to talk about, because the learning curve is something else entirely compared to building or painting the models... so for that i can´t help you with...

what i could give you my personal 2 cents about is ....

the framed pictures are a big all around...you seem to have mastered micro painting like no one else!!! the one you made for us is still hanging in our bedroom....! but your shown portraits here...the wallsections they´re hung up on seem to small in space for these canvases...only the one on the brickwall feels like it is a fitting frame for that wall...

the bookshelf is a truly neat idea i have to nick...with foam i could easily reproduce that kind of furniture!!!
and the sofa...if self made...pure win!!!

one minor suggestion...the floor in the living room looks a wee bit aggressive ...dunno what to do about that tho...^^

I love the tiny paintings Cam, very cool. All the tiny stuff is a lot of fun, clock, sofa, and bookcase too.

The wallpaper. I get the impression that Brits like wallpaper much more than Americans do. It does work well in that building.

Don't forget the tiny coffee maker

Is it the look of the second storey that troubles? I'd consider pilasters of some sort, and a more prominent ledge at the divide between storeys 1 and 2.

Actually, now that I look more... A bannister for the stairs?

@ Red, Yup wallpaper is a British thing I think, was wanting to try something other than my usual rotting broken down stuff. I am kinda with you on the second storey, but over here we have social housing (council estates) full of this kinda house...well ish



So you see where I was coming from, but have seriously thought about redoing the upstairs, or maybe cladding it in wood.

Oh and OK coffee machine....though I think a tea pot would be better.

Mitre fast. It is a super glue, pretty thick viscosity, as a glue it is OK, but with it's spray can of actuator it is really good, the actuator sets the super glue fast, really fast, and sets it clear, so the wrappers are more encased than glued in place, followed by a coat of PVA over the whole thing. Seems to have worked for now.

I am finding it quite brilliant as a gap filler, and price wise it is competitive with most super glue.

Love the satellite dish. Well worth the effort.

It is an interesting and clever approach. I've seen the bottoms of aluminum cans cut out and use for the dish of a satellite.

The glue doesn't make the cellophane brittle and crumbly? On the other hand, layered with glue should make for a sturdy laminate. That 'gold' foil effect reminds me of the wrapping on the Apollo mission lunar module.

I'm very impressed with what you were able to do with those sweety wrappers Cam, When this LoER comp started, I briefly considered trying to make something out of candy wrappers, but I quickly gave up the idea being sure they were unworkable.

i beg to differ....wallpaper is a German thing...for aeons...as far as i now... silken or later paper ones...as far back as the 16th century?...iirc from numerous visits of museums...

rugs...that will be interesting... challenge yourself with a fluffy one

the dish is a real testimony to your modeling approach...you see something that you want to be done...and you do it...regardless of any obstacles...you´re a chuck norris of modelling...honestly!

i recently saved a bag of cereal packaging material...the plastic bag... greyish and rather stiff... for future projects... and i am even anticipating a heavy fight to get it glued then...but that bon bon paper is probably overkill when it comes to working with it...i bet you could have invented a universe of swearwords while doing that dish ... you probably sealed one surface then the other side with quite some curing time in-between?

Judging from what I saw of the interiors of German houses on the TV show Tatort (Köln series) Everything was rather Bauhaus -eque or Le Corbusier-esque . Lots of glass. I though it strange given that Germany is not the warmest place. The heating bills on those houses... I shudder. Or the interiors were a bit seedy. It was a detective show, so seedy is to be expected.

I had a candy bag for lifesavers, IIRC, that had a nice foil looking side (the inside) that I though would make a good skin to simulate brushed steel or aluminum or something metallic Never could figure out how to glue it so that it would be durable. I may have to give the mitre-fast method a try on it

And probably more structurally sound than a 'woolaway' house

i like the crashed spaceship - clearly the Meks in that area haven't developed enough 'skillz' to salvage such prized tech..

As for selling it, if you don't ask you don't get. If you are happy to part with it for that price, then it's a good price.

Don't undersell yourself though, if you honestly feel that it should cost more due to the work you put in, up the price.

The customer is not paying just for the materials, a one-off model like this is worth your time and your experience for bringing it into existence. They are paying for all the work you have done to get to this stage.

For future sales products, think about the market you want to sell to. Who you want to sell to will tell you what to make, how to make it, and the level of detail (and therefore time and effort to put in) required.
And, it will tell you how to sell it: for gamers? mention gaming-related phrases (line of sight blocker... etc.). As a display piece? mention the fine detailing... you get the idea.
