I was wondering this for awhile, anyone I ask just shrugged and said "dunno". All I can find is who the American banks owe money to.

Japan: $585 bn
China: $541 bn
UK: $307 bn
OPEC nations (organisation of the petroleum exporting countries, including Iraq. I don't know much about this, but it seems to not be an organisation of countries, but of businesses): $179 bn
Carribian (Since when did they have any money?): $147 bn

OPEC is the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

You may want to refine the question. A bank is going to owe money to each of its depositors. Everyone from an multinational corporation to you with a savings account will be listed as a liability on the bank's accounts. In the US, banks generally don't generally take loans for their own use - other than borrowing funds from the Fed.

Capitals make all the difference apparently.

What "banks" are we talking about. Because your list looks like bondholders of US national debt, but the numbers don't.

Your question is incorrect. Nongovernmental banks owe money to their depositors, repos to other banks, and occasionally state banks.
