Hi, Dakka. Now, straight to the point. My friend has become a person that I do not want to hang around anymore in the hobby. He critizises everyone’s work, and is overly competitive. I have begun to realize this after he told a beginner that his painting skills suck. I have told him many times not to do this, but he only responds by saying “I can’t help it if they are terrible at painting.” I really do not know how I should stop hanging around him. What should I do?

Wow, he sounds like a dick. OK, a few questions:

How long has he been in the hobby?
Does he have a fully painted army?
Is his painting skill good or bad?
Does he go to your school?
Is it possible just not to play him?

Telling him to his face that "I can't put up with you any more" always worked for me.

He sounds like a right Donkey Cave, just stay away from him if he refuses to change.

I had a buddy that used to be awesome, but became a jerk in high school so I stopped hanging out with them despite being part of all my friendship circles I went though in high school. After high graduation

he's become a decent person again I don't hangout with him still, but I do play with him on some online video games.

He has been in the hobby for 1 year. He does not have a fully painted army, but paints like one model, and thinks it is the best. He is pretty good at painting, but not that good, although he thinks he is ready to paint like 'Eavy metal. He does go to my school, and I see him a lot. Hope this helps. Not only does he make fun of people with "Bad" paint jobs, he also gets mad at people rules-wise. I was talking to a new-player, who was very nice, and had started collecting. He asked if I could spare a few minutes, and play a game to help him with the rules. My friend told him that he couldn't because he did not know all of the rules. I tried to tell the guy it was okay, but he had already left.

Ok. So, just don't play him. Tell him that until his attitude changes, you refuse to put an army on the table against him.

Just stop hanging out with him. Go to the FLGS at different times than he does. If he goes on Saturdays, go on Fridays. If he calls, tell him you're busy. After a while, he'll eventually stop bothering to call. Or tell him to get a Dakka account and post his model pics. I'm sure the people here would give him a nice warm welcome.

Talk to the owner. Ask him to watch him a little more carefully.

Talk to the manager of the shop about it.

Let him be a Donkey Cave, until he's banned or just hated to the point were people won't go near him.

Sleep with his mother.

Confront the guy, but keep it at the constructive critisism-level. There's no point in you going overboard, by insulting him. There's no justifying you being a prick by his bad actions, really!

Yea, Id tell him, look your being a total jerk to people, and I dont want to hang with you until you change the way your acting, then go and tell the manager to keep an eye on him and how he has been treating people. Once he gets kicked or a serious tongue lashing for being a dick, he just might change his ways

Talk to the manager and also tell your friend that he is being a colossal ass-hat, if he is a mate he might take it on board. And if this fails go with MeanGreenStompa ' idea.
