Subject: A question about Pre-Heresy Jump Packs...

So there I was pondering on the layout of my Pre heresy army when I realised I did not know what jump packs to use for my beakies (MKIV Corvus).
It seems that the 'classic' style was used up to MKV as these guys have them.
However, these guys are MKIV Maximus armour and have the modern packs...
So my question to you is, what pack should I use for my Corvus suits, classic, modern OR Raptor packs as seen here?
I leave my dilemma in the capable hands of my fellow dakkites!

classic. I think the MKIV picture is trying to show current chapter red scorpions using them, so they aren't really a representation of pre heresy.
jump packs were very experimental during the crusades, so you could use either the classic or raptors one I guess to show different models of experimentation.

Personally I'd go for the classic ones - even if the modern ones are 'historically' accurate , the classic ones look so much fluffier for a pre-Heresy army.
I'd only use the Raptor ones for Chaos or renegade marines.

Well, seeing as the consensus is going for classic, that is what I will go for! I may pick up some Raptors eventually and make them into vanguard vets or something but the beakies are going classic

Yeah, the 'keg' style packs are a definite winner IMO. I actually have a bunch of the old metal jump packs that are in that old keg style, so yes, they would be very appropriate.

welcome aboard commissarbob, enjoy your stay with us! I would urge you to consider your fluff. I agree with comrade that the packs were experimental during crusades. Certain legions' extensive experience or preference for using jump packs would have seen those packs evolve faster (hence why we could argue that the raptor packs have such a different look to them, and are still technically heresy era). It should fit the theme of the rest of your army, if its all very early-era rickety type look, the kegpacks would be the way to go. All that said, I think these are best representative of heresy era packs: for your consideration, I inculde these:

The only thing about the FW ones is that you cannot buy them separately.

The chapterhouse ones are really very good too! I own a heap of them but haven't used them on anyone yet and i am impressed by far! probably a good option if you need to equip a few marines with them imo.
