Ok, so a soldier friend of mine is leaving the base soon and he asked me to build him a reaver titan. Never having done one, not knowing how to do it and dooming my ego and health to four weeks of absolute frustration and hell, I have agreed to build the reaver.

I will be building two at once, one for me as a test and one for him using all the lessons learned from mine. I will build a part, test and fit that piece, determine it's viability then, once I have the part perfected as much as I can, build his copy of that part.

It began with some new tool purchases:

Out with the old, in with the new:

My wife decided I needed these new gadgets and I am so stoked about them. The Dremel workstation and heatgun are gonna be so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Baby, I love you...

I started on the feet, like I always do. I was able to get a decent scale comparison from some pictures on this and other blogs.

I guestimated the diameter of the whole foot at about 5 or 5.5 inches, the toes at about 1"x1"x7/8". They look just about good to me so I will stick with it.

First foot together, minus a lot of detail, and looking good. The angle between the front toe and the side toes was really hard to get a good idea of so my goal was to make it aesthetic at least if not completely accurate, but they look good, imho, so I made the rest of the toes.

A quick comparison:

And ended up finishing today with two sets of completed feet, again minus a lot of detail.

Tomorrow and Tuesday I expect to complete the legs up to the hips, barring any failures in design, of course. Hopefully By Friday Night Magic I will have two Reavers from the waist down standing to show off at the shop. With a big APOC tourney coming up beginning of December, I am hoping to have them ready with at least one loadout of weapons each. That may be stretching it but I am extremely excited about using my new heat gun and have tons of ideas. Wish me luck!!!! And, as always, looking forward to your input.

Ok, so a little more done. I finished up most of the detail on the feet:

And started the lower legs with two pieces of PVC:

Cut Hydraulics grooves and put them together like so:

Add a half sphere:

And then a little aquila detail:

I like the one on the left best but the one one the right actually fit into the spot where it goes. I was so mad. The Chaos Knight there was angry, too.

Yes, I have actually seen that photo online. Good paint job, btw. I kinda screwed up the dimensions of the cutouts for the hydraulics. It necessitated a change in decor to accommodate the trim anyway, so I added in some aquila lookalike details. The hydraulics, as well, aren't exact to a forgeworld. They don't come up as far. I am happy with that as it will allow me to more easily magnetize all the toe and shin guards. Also, I left off the slight slant on the front and rear toes. I didn't think it looked right and that a straight across cut was more appropriate for my model. I am glad you like it and thank you for your comments. And good job on the pose, too. Most people just do the wide legged John Wayne pose. Yours is different and, in that I think, unique.

No, no templates, straight from images and guestimations. I actually have a forgeworld Lucian Warhound borrowed right now to help with other projects so getting a good scale has been an easier time than I have had in the past.

Finally got some more done on these Reaver legs:

Standing at the hips at just under 10 inches:

And a pair of Titan legs:

Hoping to have had these and the second set done last night but sickness and lack of good sleep prevailed. The second legs and torsos should be together tonight. Then it is on to the main hulls and weapons.

Yes, I am messy.

Ok, so the pelvis are done. Is pelvis the proper plural? Should it be pelvi? Anyway:

Have to finish all the little detail and cleanup from my wonton disregard for glue economy and care, but overall I am very happy with these. Tomorrow these bad boys are standing in a local APOC matchup totaling 60,000 points. It will be epic. Pics to come.....

That looks like a pretty Epic game. How did the titan legs fare game wise? And who's thunderhawks are those? They are nice scratchbuilds as well

The Legs fared ok. I didn't want them played but it aint' no big deal. The thunderhawks, well, there were three. My two were grey and Clay's was gold (the only one with an actual paint job. Thank you for the compliment. The thunderhawk scratchs were my first when I started this stuff a year ago.

Got some main hull interior work done on the Reavers. Tell me what you think:

Stay with me here:

Wait for it:

Okay, it's standing:

Some detail:

And the other side with the old Chaos knight for scale:

Really need some input from you guys. Staying worried about scale and proportions and everything. Please, let me know what you think.

That scale looks about right judging from the pics on the FW site. Nice use of Lego tubes. I love it when people use Legos in their 40k stuff. You wouldn't have happened to have used Templates for the thunderhawks would've you?

Yes, reinvesting all those bionicles that my three sons begged for and are now stored in a closet almost completely forgotten and unused.

Also, Tengamo's.

A very forgotten and innocous game involving collectible character discs with four rare earth magnets on each disc. Nearly 300 of them. So, this guy, thats who has over 1100 5mm diameter and 3mm thick rare earth magnets.

And thats not even half of them. I haven't harvested the rest yet. BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH BUAHA BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, started the main hulls themselves. Started with a basic floor plane of the main compartment:

Needed to build the walls out to a certain thickness. Settled for about 85-90% of the thickness I estimate the resin walls to actually be:

Trying to build in the curves of the main hull. it didn't go to darn bad.

But it was ultimately too tall. Had to take a half inch off:

Also, built a little box with the curve in it for the back of the main compartment. I will have to put the pipes and such on it. I haven't glued in anything but the floor plate sidewalk. I still need to put in the weapon servitors and rails to hold up the roof. Also, I am going to be relooking the hoses and pipes that go across the top of the weapon servitor interior panels. But, for now, I need to catch up on the second Main hull. Wanted to get this far on the prototype before I started number two. Once I am caught up on the second I will continue on with interior and exterior main hull detail. I have let myself get down to about 7 days to have one of them done before my buddie leaves. I will make it, though. I have faith.
