Really, it depends on the age of the kids in question man. That could be a pretty big range of toys.
But for boyz, anything hotwheels is a safe bet, because that covers a pretty broad range of ages. And girls....I dunno really, my daughter is REALLY girly, so shes all about the baby dolls and pink princess stuff. My nieces are a bit different, one likes dress up like my daughter, the other likes music and wants to shoot things
I'm going to do some leatherworking for christmas this year. Running out of time but I'm pretty sure I can whip up some snazzy gear for my nephew on time. Perhaps a helmet or something. All kids love armor.
Maybe a purse/handbag for my niece

Every year I get the same thing. Barbie doll and Anything that has a gun.
Not sure what is the cool thing today. Toys R Us does not sell Z-bots, might max or much of anything when I was a kid.
Pokemon and Power Rangers is still around, which is awesome.
I saw a lot of these battle hamster things at toys are us. I notice a lot of kids buying them too.
My Son is really into Bakugan toys and Superhero action figures, and my Daughter likes "Monster High" dolls and these electronic stuffed pets( can't recall the name).
Have to commend you for supporting Toys for Tots , it's a worthwhile cause.
What I normally do each year is purchase a large amount of stuffed animals and "plain" Barbie dolls and action figures, that way I can stretch my Toys for tots funds as far as I can and get the most toys for the kids who need them.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
I hear that they're quite into things like playing butt doctor so maybe those sets of plastic GP equipment.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I think the kids are into Heroin these days aren't they?
That's what it said in the paper anyway...
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
Man, there's been so many times when I wanted to head to "Wally-World" and indulge in a Nerf shopping spree. Just need to find some buddies willing to have a Nerf shootout.

Would that be Zu-Zu pets by any chance. The youngest granddaughter just loves them. The older one, she likes 40k but im slowly corrupting her to like historical and modern armed forces figgies more...and space ships =o] The grandson just loves 'Mikeys space marines' and the Warlord titan in my closet....he plays with them on the titan running around the outside pewpewing the bad guys...3 is a cool age, I think thats why I choose to never grow up =o]
Personally, just give what you can. I wish more people donated to charities. I have had some hard times in my life and they helped me out. Now it's time to give back.
As for what's popular with the ladies, Yo Gabba Gabba! is a solid choice, as is anything to deal with the new MLP show.
NERF GUN FTW impossible to go wrong. The kid could be nine or fourteen, but still a nerf gun never fails.
Lol when me and my friends have airsoft wars (not just crappy springers, I mean 400+ fps) and it starts raining outside, we go in and have a nerf war. Good times lol
May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )
The thing I find wierd, is that quite a lot of people complain about "Today's Youth" and how we're obsessed with violence and gun culture, whilst at the same time advocating that young children should be given toy guns as presents.
It strikes me as somewhat of a double standard.

Thats up to the parents to teach their kids weapon awareness and safety when the kids move on to owning a actual weapon. One brought by the parents.

I have always found the whole kids are exposed to too much violence as hypocritical and selective memory.
My parents generation (the baby boomers) Had westerns. Bunch of cocky cowboys going out and killing the "dirty red skin"
really? Going to complain about my generation killing imaginary creatures or playing a simulation combat when when you had bull crap shoot the savage television?
Now is there an extent to the amount of violence a kid should be exposed to or intensity? Sure. Would not bring a 5 year old to a Rob Zombie movie. But don't have an issue giving him a toy gun. and shooting his friends in the playground. Until the cop stop them. (That actually happened to me).
As for guns and gun safety. I was taught at the age of 8 about respect a gun.

Oh, for fu....
I hear that, drumkits! shouldn't be surprised. regaling my two with tales of gigs and concerts, must sound pretty cool, and making them watch music videos!

I totally agree, once they learn about guns they will make pew pew sounds and use anything to be a gun. There was a story in the news not to long ago here in Canada not to long ago. A kid in school picked up his fish stick and pointed it at another kid and made a pew pew sound, A teacher saw this and told the principal and he got suspended for that. For making a freaking pew pew sound...sighs..
This whole world is based on violence so I find it kind of silly that we should hide it from kids. Why not explain it to them and make them understand? Also I find it funny how if you turn on TV someone is getting killed, shot, murdered, blood sucked out but if mention sex or show a boobie then its OMG SEX WE CANT TALK ABOUT OR SHOW SEX!!!! overreacting happens.
Go with the nerf gun, remember..." It's nurf or nothing" =o]
