What HAS Brian been up to?

Well, aside from nursing my crippling depression and trying to find a job (don't worry, I'm not going to be evicted until February 2022)...

I made a thing. Specifically, a campaign! An ORK campaign. I just noticed that ORK also spells ROK.

It is Waaagh the Dog a campaign about Ork Warlords attempting to start a Waaagh, and take control of the space hulk Forlorn Hope! It has battles from Warhammer 40K, Kill Team, Battlefleet Gothic, Aeronautica Imperialis, Speed Freeks and Space Hulk (with Orks!). Expect to see pictures and tall tales soon, as we start this upcoming weekend!

I'm sharing this document with y'all, in the hopes that it inspires you to run your OWN campaign, and also show how three players can be integrated (always difficult).

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EY20cu0fZfyjRXL-IEBhb1Bt6vqk6Jfl/view?usp=sharing

Please enjoy.

GOBBO FANK and DA GROT PACK demand it!

A little Teaser...

I'm glad you're pulling something good out of a sucky situation Brian. I look forward to reading your campaign rules and to whatever pics come out of the campaign.

It's great to see you back Brian! Though, I wish things were going better for you. Thanks for sharing that cool looking campaign with us. I immediately started reading through it. I don't have most of those game systems, but I am still tempted to try this campaign out when I finally get back home. I enjoyed all the pop culture jokes and puns sprinkled throughout.

Yeah, the only Epic I own is now in a diorama, so I left it out.

You can clearly see the lineage of the AI Fighta-bommers, an odd kitbashing of the older Forge World Ork fliers (body, tail), and the newer GW Ork Fliers (wings).

Still, got pretty darn close!

And finally, a Kill Team known as Da Rekin' Krew, seen here exploring a bombed out Ork scrapyard, led by Grot Kaptin Fank, and his Grot Pak: Dino, Spanna, and Da Bishop. A group of Big Shootas and some Kommandos provide cover.

How does the new version of AI play as compared with the old one? I head bad things, but hard to tell given the nostalgia and Nu/Old GW views people seem to have

Hey, any of the few people left who read this plog:

Do you have a better way of inserting photos here? The Dakka system is tedious and unwieldy, and has been a major stopper for me wanting to post here.

Thanks!

I know it’s tedious, but after seeing so many good blogs get blown apart by other sites like photobucket changing terms and agreements, or my office changing security settings and work blocking it, Dakkadakka is still better in my opinion.

When uploading you can select multiples at once from the same screen (don’t need to do them all individually). When updating my blog I keep one tab open to the gallery, and one to the edit page.

This on my Mac laptop. While I do occasionally upload direct from my phone, it’s irritating, but I don’t think that’s Dakka’s fault.

Yeah, that's what I do, but having to tick the "this is my photo" box every time is annoying. Dakka should support in-line Instagram, flickr, imgur, FB, etc.

Dakka photos are more time consuming, but the fact they are willing to host 10 bazillion photos for free (3,452 of which are mine) is worth supporting. Truly it's why I keep my DCM even when I'm not around.

Also, hello Brian. Long time.

The annoyance of dakka's photo system, and a lack of support for every single other photo hosting, is why I *DON'T* post here. It takes me a TENTH of the time to put a photo somewhere like Instagram.

Dakka is stuck in the 20th century.

As a child of the 20th century and having seen the last couple decades, I don’t see what is wrong with that .

I guess I don't understand what makes posting photos seem so difficult? You upload them to the gallery where you can organize them as you like, then you use the automatically provided links to insert them into your posts.

That seems pretty simple, is it not the same for you?

I don't have any advice on photo uploading, I just want to say: hi Brian, it's nice to see you posting.

Hi, Brian. I agree the dakka system is a bit tedious compared to other “drag and drop” sites. If you have Google Photos you can create a shared album and then just insert the photos in your posts here as links. I do that all the time and it saves time. You just need to be sure the album is set as a “shared album” so people can see the photos in the posts with just the links here.

I hope you find a method that works for you and you can post some updates on this campaign.

</rant mode="on">

So, I post to places like Instagram, etc. And I don't want to have to upload my photo **AGAIN** to Dakka. Herein lies the problem.

Also, Dakka's minimal process is:
  • Select the Photo(s), upload.

  • Manually indicate that I OWN each photo by having to scroll down and click a radio box under each picture.

  • Submit.

  • Go to each photo, and copy the link out of a tiny box on the lower-right.

  • Repeat for every photo I want in the post (yes, you can in theory copy-pasta and change the numbers, but, again, extra tedium here).

  • I should just be able to paste a link to my service of choice. BUT.

The "Image" button doesn't work for anything such as Instagram (where you don't have the direct image link).

They need to update the site to expand the [Youtube] button for at LEAST Instagram, if not Insta, FB, etc.

No argument that the photo process is cumbersome. I've spent hours uploading, sorting, labeling, and attaching. I can't explain why it doesn't bother me more than it does because it seems like the kind of thing that would get me to throw mouse break keyboard ragequit, but I suspect it's the zen of the process. There's so much about the Dakka interface that I'm familiar with that it's calming in itself. Where else does knowing HTML/CSS come in handy nowadays? With so much of everything being GO!GO!GO!NOW!NOW!NOW *DONE* NEXT!!! GOGOGOGOGOGO!!!! nowadays, performing a process that slows me down and makes me pay attention to what I'm doing is actually welcomed. And for me the the end result always feels worth it. Cool pics, awesome update, another entry in the history of Dakka.
