Okay. Figured I wanted to start playing my hell hound again. Only issue was that I was using it as the main chassis for my Hydra. However, after seeing this and having an awesome wife, I knew I wanted to build a dedicated Hydra. Saw this, and my wife ordered it for my birthday present:

http://chapterhousestudios.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=77_80&product_id=67

I figured since the Hydra has all this auto aiming equipment it would have to look a little different from the normal Chimera. So, after going through by box o' bits, I came across some bits I think would work fine to represent this. Here is the work so far. Still waiting on the chapter house kit to come in. I already have the quad cannon. So, without any further delay, here is the work so far.

I like the added targeter, nice touch.

Personally though I always do hydras with a heavy bolter and heavy stubber to get the additional 6 long range shots.

They chew up infantry, even power armor, like crackers.

That is the quad cannon. The target system, that is from this, the Tau bits I believe.

Okay, got the kit in today from Chapter House. Not overly impressed. I know it is resin, but, it comes no where near the same dimensions as the Chimera chassis. Alot of sanding is required. Oh well, Hope it is worth it in the end.

Okay,

Have the sides on the Chimera, glued nice and good. Also, put a piece of thin wood to make a deck on the back. this will be a place the quad gun mount will go onto. Pics so far. As far as the fit, not as bad as I initially thought, still, alot of sanding and using a file to get a fit. After I get it all together, will have to put some putty to fill in the gaps.

Looks very nice! What part of it did you have to sand down? How hard was it to do?

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Almost done

As far as the sanding goes, there are some large chunks of molding you have to take off from the mold. Where the back of the front hull piece comes down, it isnt as good as they make it look. You have to file off alot of resin on the inside to make it flush as you can. Still need some green stuff to fill in cracks.

Gave it a quick paint job. Play in a league where you have to have painted army to score extra points, and those matter.

I know what you were trying...but it just looks like a defense emplacement stuck on a chimera :(

Maybe if you separated the auto cannons from the mount, spaced them out and got a little more creative like the rest of the tank?

Yeah, using the entire Aegis turret mount makes it look very tall. Personally I'd prefer either:
- a much shorter mount (just enough for the turret ring)
- or a much shorter gun turret
- or both

I like the paint job, and the overall model, but I agree that it look too tall.

I think if you removed the Aegis base, and just mount the turret directly to the hull it would look better.

If you cut off the blue base and cut down the actual turret, maybe making it wider, it would look nicer

Moore, Ok.

If you don't glue the AC's in place, you can make a Manticore out of the Whirlwind
missle launcher bits. i did that as well. check out my gallery, i don't want to post pics
in your thread!

it does seem kind of high. if you could cut down the box it's mounted on the would help.
is the box setting on the "bottom" part of the Chimera? will you be making more of
the wheeled Chimera? Was it worth the work to you? i think it looks great, but it sounds
like it was a pain too.

I might do another wheeled version, just not sure. The cast is a bit to work with, but, it isn,t something I do often though. I might try something different with the whole mounting. The "blue" color see is actually grey, the way the camera works I guess (it went to Iraq with me to take pics).

I am looking at using something like the razor back lid to mount the weapon system. If I can pick up some sort of rocket launchers, I just may do that.

Got one of these on order, so, possible a few more Hydras to build. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440312a&prodId=prod40002a

Okay,

Did some rework. Took out the base that the gun was sitting on, it was not glued in alot, and, it was just thin wood. I scrounged around my bits box, found two pieces from Storm Raven kit, some extra autocannon ammo from the heavy weapon teams, a couple lasguns, and a medic bag. Mainly, made it look like how some of our military vehicles that I am around alot look like inside. Now, the gun sits lower, looks better like that. Added the brush guard on the front too. Not to sure about it though.

Thought I would add these pics too. Won these two OOP models on Ebay, no arms though. What IG player doesn't have extra arms? So, got them cheap, 7.50 including shipping. So, put on some arms, and a paint job, now, part of a vet squad.
