The exception to the rule that poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world, Vaclav Havel managed his nation through the tricky period of disengagement from the Soviet Union, then through the split with Slovakia, and entry into the EU.

Let's take a moment to celebrate the life of a man who did a great deal for the world.

On MPR, I heard one of his political allies in the day refer to him as a real-life Polish Gandalf.

Paraphrase:
"Like Gandalf, to ordinary hobbits, he seemed liike a harmless tinker, however his true power would only be revealled when he battled against the ancient, and demonic forces of oppression in Moria."

Wow. That was a eulogy I never expected to hear.

For a second I was going to release a string of expletives when I realised he wasnt Meciar. Now that asshat was a thug.

It's surprising to see people post comments about my country of origin...

More importantly though, does anyone see a theme here with communist leader deaths?

Vaclav Havel wasn't a communist leader.

No he wasn't but the association with it is there. I wasn't trying to say he was. I need to pay more attention.
