Like many Necron players out there, I'm trying to figure out how best to model (or at least proxy) Night Scythes/Doom Scythes until they are supposedly released in Necron Wave 2 in March. I've perused a number of threads on Night Scythes such as these:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/409532.page

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/410210.page

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/416494.page

But something that's only tangentially discussed in these threads is the actual size of the model. In the case of all that I've seen so far, I think the models folks have converted are way smaller than what GW's going to produce. In one of the threads it was discussed that the models don't have to be big because it's not like the Night Scythe is actually physically carrying troops inside it. It's a good point, but I think from GW's perspective, their main concern is trying to keep all of the different races flyers roughly consistent with one another from a size perspective.

For instance, length and wingspan on an Imperial Thunderbolt is roughly 10 inches each way. And if I'm not mistaken, a Valkyrie has similar dimensions. I'm interested in finding out the length and width of other races fliers to give some perspective on what we can expect from GW on the Night Scythe/Doom Scythe.

So, for folks out there with the following flyers - could you guys do some measurements for me and let me know the length and width of:

- IG Valkyrie

- GK/BA Storm Raven

- DE Razorwing

Additionally, if folks with Ork Fightas, Chaos Hell Blades or Hell Talons, Eldar Nightwing, or Tau Barracuda want to chime in with dimensions on those, it'd be appreciated as well.

While I think the execution of the Falcon -> Doom Scythe conversion was flawed, I think the size of Eldar grav tanks are a reasonable basis for the Necron "flyers".

Here's a Wave Serpent:
Length: 8 inches
Height: 4 inches
Width: 2.5 inches

These are approximations and the height is on the 60mm flying base the model comes with.

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. I promised my son that I'd convert him some from the extra insulation foam we have laying around and I'd like to see your take before jumping in with my own.

edit: I think the height and width might need reversing, sorry!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I think that roughly-Falcon sized is what a lot of people are going after, but considering how much smaller that is than the Valkyrie or Storm Raven, I'm thinking that it is too small.

Doing a little research, I'm finding that the Valk is about 11.25" long by 10" wide and the Storm Raven is 9.25" long by 10.25" wide.

I found a pic of the Doom Scythe online, copied and pasted it, then printed it out. Looking at the pic, the Doom Scythe pilot has got bigger shoulderpads than a standard Warrior, so I decided to measure an Immortal for comparison purposes. Taking the Immortal's width from the edge of one shoulderpad to the other at 0.875", I measured the same spacing in the Doom Scythe pic. Measuring what appears to be the widest part of the Doom Scythe, I extrapolated that this width should be about 9".

Here comes the flaw in my methodology, though. Comparing the size of a Tesla Destructor with the Doom Scythe's Tesla Destructor in the picture gives me a width of only about 6". That said, the Tesla Destructors in the pic of the Doom Scythe look particularly long, especially when compared to the Night Scythe picture on the next page.

With the wingspans of the Thunderbolt, Valk, and Storm Raven all being in the 10" range, I'm inclined to believe that my estimate of a 9" width for the Doom Scythe/Night Scythe may not be too far off.

I started out mine after seeing this thread http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?t=18293 and went roughly with those measures to start.
