What is everyone's thoughts on this? For example, making a Winter themed table and then making Winter Camoed models with the same exact color scheme.

I personally think that as long as you aren't doing it for the purpose of hiding your models, it would be ok, but I am wondering what the general concensus is.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Well... considering that the chances of you playing on the winter themed table during a tournament, which is the only time 'modeling for advantage' really matters are slim to none, go right ahead. The vast majority of tables out there are grassland, if anything, your minis will stick out more.

I actually think it would be pretty neat playing against someone with an army specifically painted to match their gaming table.

I have seen someone actually lose track of a too-well-camoflauged unit for a turn or two- in more than one game.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I know I've been guilty of forgetting about a miniature I left in a forest or on the bottom floor of a ruin. I think I'd worry if I were the one using the winter camo army on the winter table.

I've done this.

It's more to your disadvantage, because you start losing models in the trees and bushes, and a 10 man squad goes to a 8 after leaving some terrain.

This.
If you lose track they did a good job at painting the Camo and even then like others said they lose that minor advantage on other tables.

That being said, actual camo not base coat then tones of flock.

This is not something that actually happens, and thus not something that needs worrying about.

I've forgotten about my own camo painted Eldar Rangers hiding in the woods until I was packing up my army.

WHERE'S THE ADVANTAGE IN THAT!?!?!?

I don't really get why this would confer an advantage. Does OP mean in game, that they somehow magically would gain a cover save easier or something or just so the opponent will forget about shooting at them because they're hard to see on the table?

Opponent might simply forget they are there. You can experiment this by yourself by putting units in cover so that enemy can't see them. As the game moves on the opponen simply forgets that you have placed units placed in cover.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

A buddy and I played an all night, 5000 point game (prior to apoc). He placed a unit of grey primed sniper scouts in a grey building during deployment. Forgot about them until we took the game down the next day...

my SWs are a dark grey color scheme and on nicely done winter bases, i recently built a fully "winter in the mountain tops" themed table including a mottled grey, stone patterned vinyl mat for the surface, and all rocky/ deep snow themed terrain as their home world. it looks super awesome when im all deployed and my longfangs are in cover, butt id agree with many of the previous posts here ....there's A: no real advantage as most tables are greenish and B: im just as likely to forget a unit as my opponent if they are too well hidden lol.

Excellence is not an achievement, its a habit. We are what we continually do.

Yeah but that only works when said unit doesn't get the least bit annoying. So you're not getting any mileage from it either.

I've seen other people (and myself) place nicely camoed models in a forest or wood feature and then forget about them for a turn or three.

It might be modelling for advantage in some way, but it might not be your own

Not in Warhammer, but I've seen some amazing camo in other gaming systems... not by virtue of having good paint schemes, but of only priming an army, leaving a solo character or model out in the middle of a large number of equally sized and equally primed grunt troops.

Sometimes you can forget the bigger threat is hiding amid all that black...

hehe, you'd almost let him (or her, stranger things happen) through to the next round on guts alone, if only it was based properly rather than a green base flocked rather poorly...

Feth it Kilkrazy, I almost died.

On topic - I sorta and at the same time don't see it the point of the issue, really not going to make much of a difference. At home it would just be awesome to play against, at tournies, its never going to work, plus those at the top of the list are so damned focused the whole time, it probably wouldn't phase them even if you got to take your matching table.

I agree with a couple here on the 'owning' it though, I miss units during my turn on occasion now when playing, if I couldn't see them very well, I'd be losing every game due to loss of firepower.

That's why I have a Laser Pointer in by box of goodies.

When deciding targets for a unit with LOS - it's the best way to spot anything worthwhile.

If not LOS and you lose track of enemy units - you just aren't paying enough attention, and if they sting you once, shame on you if they sting you twice...well 'nuff said

I once painted an army so incredibly well that people couldn't look upon it without being blinded by it's awesomeness.

Unable to even gaze upon my army none of my opponents were able to beat it, eventually I got bored of being perfect and went back to using barely painted armies like everyone else.

Hmm, maybe I CAN get some use out of the fluorescent paints that I got when I ordered the Vallejo air colors line.
