And without even a hint of sarcasm!

An Open Apology to Amy Koch on Behalf of All Gay and Lesbian Minnesotans

Dear Ms. Koch,

On behalf of all gays and lesbians living in Minnesota, I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for our community's successful efforts to threaten your traditional marriage. We are ashamed of ourselves for causing you to have what the media refers to as an "illicit affair" with your staffer, and we also extend our deepest apologies to him and to his wife. These recent events have made it quite clear that our gay and lesbian tactics have gone too far, affecting even the most respectful of our society.

We apologize that our selfish requests to marry those we love has cheapened and degraded traditional marriage so much that we caused you to stray from your own holy union for something more cheap and tawdry. And we are doubly remorseful in knowing that many will see this as a form of sexual harassment of a subordinate.

It is now clear to us that if we were not so self-focused and myopic, we would have been able to see that the time you wasted diligently writing legislation that would forever seal the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman, could have been more usefully spent reshaping the legal definition of "adultery."

Forgive us. As you know, we are not church-going people, so we are unable to fully appreciate that "gay marriage" is incompatible with Christian values, despite the fact that those values carry a biblical tradition of adultery such as yours. We applaud you for keeping that tradition going.

And finally, shame on us for thinking that marriage is a private affair, and that our marriage would have little impact on anyone's family. We now see that marriage is more than that. It is an agreement with society. We should listen to the Minnesota Family Council when it tells us that marriage is about being public, which explains why marriages are public ceremonies. Never did we realize that it is exactly because of this societal agreement that the entire world is looking at you in shame and disappointment instead of minding its own business.

From the bottom of our hearts, we ask that you please accept our apology.

Thank you.
John Medeiros

Ouch! That's a damn caustic letter...

Anyone wanna fill me in on what's going on with this Amy Koch lady? And why is she so deserving of such a scathing letter? Cheers.

Its piss funny that they care so much about marriage, but nothing else.

They don't go on the TV and say "Noshing random strangers off in the lavatory at your local cinema is a bad thing" but they harp on and on and on about the big M.

fethers like her and .. that Kardashian bint with her 20 day marriages are doing far more damage to the "sanctity" than two random blokes who live with each other.

Amy Koch proposed an amendmen to the MN state constitution to recognize marriage as only between a man and woman.

I hope that, whenever she read that letter, she felt some acid reflux building up.

Doesn't seem much more than a personal attack to me. I can think of better ways of disagreeing with someone than personal attacks.

It's not the content, but the delivery on this one.

I guess. It's not any more impressive in it's subtlety then some of the things I've read on these forums.

I suppose that pointing out that someone is being a hypocrite would be a personal attack. Of course gay people tend to take being told they are second class citizens that are trying to destroy the fabric of society as personal attacks as well.

Pointing out hypocrisy is a personal attack, pretty much by necessity.

Meanwhile, I'm left wondering why the people so worried about marriage failure do nothing to help marriages survive, such as alleviating the number one cause of marriage breakdown - poverty. Probably because they're a bunch of donkey-caves who don't really care about families or the survival of marriages, and just like hating on the gays.

I thought the number one cause of marriage failure was getting married, which would mean preventing homosexuals from doing so is really just about preventing the cheapening of marriage by increasing the number of annual divorces.

In my opinion its cuz the Bible talks about what to do with gay people (kill 'em) but not what to do with poverty (???). Oh well. Every year there's a little less discrimination against gay people. Hopefully this trend will continue until they're like equal with straight people.

What seems to have been missed by some people is she is being attacked because as usual for these "family values" politicians who spend so much time talking about morals she was caught with her own proverbial knickers down outside of her marriage. It's not her human failing that's being attacked, but the hypocrisy of trying to legislate other people's sexual behavior and morals when her own behavior doesn't even come close to her own professed standards. When will these idiots stop trying to legislate people's bedrooms?

Minnesota State Senator and former State Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch is having a hard time practicing what she preaches. Koch, who has been a fervent supporter of 'family values' and who co-authored a bill in 2009 to amend the Minnesota Constitution with a gay marriage ban, has stepped down as Senate Majority leader -- a move she initially claimed was for political reasons.

Now, Koch has admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Koch has been careful to say she did not violate any laws or Senate rules. Koch's statement:

In a letter dated 12.15.11, I announced that I was resigning as Majority Leader for personal reasons. I have made some mistakes and errors in judgment for which I am deeply sorry by engaging in a relationship with a Senate staffer. While I have not violated any laws or Senate rules, nor misused any state funds or property, I want to express my deep regret and apologies to my constituents, the Republican party, my fellow legislators, friends and most importantly, my family. I regret more than words can express the hurt that I have caused to the people that I love, and to those who have worked and served with me over the past years.

The events of recent days have been very difficult for me and those close to me. It is important that I spend time now focusing on the challenging days ahead as I work through some very personal issues.

Perhaps Koch should have sponsored a bill to amend Minnesota's Constitution so marriage can be an arrangement between a man, a woman, and any other third party you see fit.

All the talk of killing is Old Testament, the teachings of Jesus, in the NewTestament preach forgiveness and love. The bible in both Testaments actually talks a lot about helping poor people.

Exactly.

The Bible contains a wealth of information and advice which can be selected out of context to back up many different political/social positions.

Thus, people who might possibly be thought to be revealing themselves through their choice of scriptural guidance as being unconsciously homophobic, pick on particular verses which talk about not lying down with men.

If you read the Bible as a whole, however, it is possible to interpret much of the Old Testament message as being out-dated by the teachings of Jesus Christ, which presumably are what Christians ought to follow.
