New to the game, have a few questions.

What's with the tiers? Can I get the benefits of mulitple tiers in the book, or if I fulfill multiple do I have to pick one (I'm sure this is in the book I just haven't found it.)

Skorne:
Soulfire? Does this work on Warcasters? If so that seems insane, please help. 99.9% sure it doesn't work, just curious as to why.

I know these are both noob questions, and I'll have plenty more as I get more into the game, but any help would be great, thanks.

To advance in the tiers you have to have the previous one, so if you wan't to have tier 2, you also have to meet the conditions for tier 1 and so on. And yes, you gain all the benefits from all the tiers, so if you manage to go on to tier 4, you also get the benefits for tiers 1, 2 and 3 (and have to meet the conditions for those tiers as well).

Why wouldn't Soulfire work on a warcaster? As long as the warcaster is a living (and non-souless) model, then yes, it works on a warcaster. But in most games if you manage to kill the enemy warcaster you win the game so I guess you don't get the full benefits of the spell...

Like Phantom said, Soulfire can work again any living model. The secondary affect only works if you box the model, however. Lucas, It does not automatically box a model, which I hope you didn't mistakenly think. If that was the case, you're right, it would be insane.

Moz:
You: "Hold on, you rammed, that's not a tank shock"
Me: "Ok so what is a ram, lets look at the rules."
Rulebook: "A ram is a special kind of tank shock"
You: "So it's a tank shock until it hits a vehicle, and then it's a ram, not a tank shock, and then it goes back to being a tank shock later!"
Me: "Yeah it doesn't really say any of that in here, how about we just play by what's written in here?"

Yeah, I read box as in "fill in a box" not fully box a model. Now looking at other abilities I realize just how derpy that would be.

Thanks a ton everyone.

Next question:
Archdomina Makeda's Tactical tip on her feat mentions her ability not returning living models to life if she dies in that turn. Is this just so people don't try to exploit her ability to bring her back herself? Or is there some game mode where losing your main caster doesn't lose you the game?

There are multi-caster battles. So if one of your casters die then the battle can go on.

Congradulations Leo, you just sold me on getting into this game more.

I wouldn't look to multi-caster battles being the reason to get into the game. Those are typically either team games or extremely large ones.

Ah, like Apocalypse for 40k? Everyone loves it but nobody plays it? lol

Well, at least the rules are already dealt with at the basic rules level and I don't need 700 expansions and the final call from the way the TO feels that morning.

Actually, I know very few people who actually like lage games, myself. The most tolerable level seems to be 75pts. for a lot of people, as games tend to collapse pretty quick (I find) the moment one caster dies anyhow.

And stuff.
