hi guys,

Me and a friend who is also a chaos player do not understand why chaos do not get razorbacks. In all fairness they quite old (model wise mk1 chassis) and i know the fluff is chaos have no access to weapons post heresy, but with the amount of renegades that change over to chaos wouldnt the dark mechanicus not have made their own type of razorback or even just started putting turrets on rhinos? i know this can also be said for every other peice of equipment marines have but chaos dont e.g. crusaders, land speeder etc. i just think chaos dont have a good selection of transports and its for me one of the biggest holes in the list also a razorback is one of the most versatile vehicles out; cheap, transport capacity and weapon upgrades for multiple roles.

so in short, why dont chaos use razorbacks?

thanks!

They're too restricted by their tech priests and it would be an insult to the machine god to put a gun on a transport.

To begin with, the answer lies entirely outside the game universe: for the sake of keeping lists distinctive Traitor Marines lack access to the the Loyalists' more specialised weapons and armour, compensated for, in terms of game balance, by the availability of daemons, Obliterators, etc.

In-universe, while sticking a turret onto a Rhino would indeed seem simple enough, we just have to presume it's not that easy, and that the Traitor Legions and Dark Mechanicus are too busy trying to please their infernal masters and take revenge upon the Imperium to spend time on R&D.

In addition, the overall impression of the Dark Mechanicus is that they're mad scientists, more interested in, for instance, breeding atomic supermen, constructing doomsday devices and laughing maniacally than in patiently pursuing useful engineering tasks.

The question can go the other way, as well.

Why don't loyalist termies use reaper-autocannons?

on the forum. Obviously

I always thought it was cause razorbacks were new tech (and so unaccessible to traitors, as they rely on pre-heresy tech)

And to the previous guy's question: Reaper autocannons are out of date. I think they were replaced by assault cannons

I presume the OP is aware that in the fluff the Razorback is a post-Heresy design (or strictly-speaking a design only rediscovered by the Imperium post-Heresy), but wants to know why the Traitors can't design and build their own equivalent. Given the ubiquity of Razorback spam in Space Marine lists right now, I can't say I blame him.

You're entirely correct about the reaper autocannon, however: the assault cannon is simply (in fluff at least, whether it is on the tabletop is debatable) a superior weapon.

I would say on the tabletop its better.

You have more shots, and while it may be a point of strength weaker, it does have a chance to ignore armor.

But good point about the razorbacks. I do wonder why the traitors haven't simply stolen one.
I mean, that is what they do, right? They steal things from loyalists and make them corrupted?

For some reason I think a SM riding a T-Rex is cooler.

I should have put an emote... . I was aware of the upgrade to assault cannons (my favorite marine weapon ). I was just pointing out that it could be there.

GW just seems to have desided to keep the two unique to the opposing marine factions.

To be fair, chaos has havoc launchers and combi weapon upgrades for a rhino that, fluff wise, add a lot of the same functionality of armed infantry transport that a razor does while keeping 10 models inside.

Havoc launchers are the TL missile launcher things, right? If so, thats a pretty good deal.

I do not know much, but...

Unarmored humans flying around in a landspeeder would be too distracted picking birds and bugs out of their teeth to effectively scout and target enemies.

Sisters would not trust the holy unguents and essential oils that fuel their flames to one of those rat-trap, stamped out, unreliable hell hounds.

Valkyries are too cramped and small to fit a power-armored marine into. Plus why not use a marine stormraven instead.

the old answer in the rules book was access codes, self destruct protocols, etc. Also that what is in the rules book represents the norm, not the exception. So there are traitor razorbacks, just not enough that the average Guardsman will need to read up on it in the Codex: Chaos Space Marines (rememebr it is an info book for Imperials to read up on thier enemies).

Clap trap hellhound? What are you thinking. It has better armor then a rhino, which is the base for most sob and sm.

Valkyries are better for the guard, longer ranged firepower and all that.

Seriously where do you get that about the hellhound?

It has an alarming tendency to explode and kill all its crew. Probably something to do with the huge-ass external fuel tanks it's toting.
