I managed to get very distracted from my basing efforts and splashed some basecoats down on my latest veteran squad. They are plastered in details so they will take a while to paint but hopefully the end result will be worth the wait!

2 down and 8 more to go!

Not sure what I'll paint up once these guys are done. Maybe I will treat myself to a terminator squad or a dreadnought

Oh I suppose I could upload pics of the next two! I got the two helmetless guys out of the way so I don't need to deal with any fleshy paint for a while. Not sure how so many melta weapons ended up in one squad, they'd be legends if the Imperium's greatest threat were sentient bulkhead doors...

Let me know if the photos look a bit off. I mess around with the colour balance a lot in photoshop but being a tad colourblind means I probably edit them totally wrong. Heck, all my marines could be brown and y'all are just too polite to mention it!

Thanks very much! The skin is nothing special really, I think it had a tusgor fur basecoat followed by a wash so I could see the details and then just a few lighter skin tones to pick out the detail.

One thing I did find that works however is using bleached bone (or whatever the name is these days) to do the eyes rather than white. Makes them look much less crazy!

Thanks very much! I too love how many little details the armour has, only problem is that it takes twice as long to paint them!

I couldn't sleep last night so from 3:00am until the sun rose I got these two guys finished. Nothing much that you haven't seen already but I do really like the bolter flash on the one on the right.

I am working on the last four at the moment because I don't want to be painting them into June!

I'm 70% done on the last four so expect pics soon!

In the meantime I have been pondering about what to do with the new Primaris Marines that I am bound to end up buying at some point. I am reluctant to add them to the Thousand Sons as I feel like the difference in scale would look very silly.

That being said, I feel like these new miniatures could be a great way to flex my creative side of the brain and allow me to forge an entirely new (smaller I hope) force of marines.

My first idea is an Aztec themed force, a close combat focused legion with similar themes in sorcery as the Thousand Sons. A couple of lizardmen sets would make this a relatively easy conversion process with some great results!

I remember fellow Dakkite Storag working on an incredible hand-sculpted Aztec marine a while ago so here he is for reference.
Spoiler:

Idea no. 2 is perhaps my least favourite but still one worth considering and that is a Greek themed force composed mostly of hoplite units. There are several good headswaps out there already such as the Maxmini one below which could look pretty awesome if done right.

My last idea which would be really interesting is pirate marines! This would entail cybernetics galore with high-tech peg legs and lots of cobbled together weaponry as if they had been cruising through the warp for millennia and picked up plenty of mutations along the way. Aligned to neither the Imperium nor Chaos they would simply travel the galaxy in search of loot and riches to fill their flying fortresses.

While I can't find the source, this image kind of captures what I was thinking only a little too clean and absent of gribbly bits...

Anyway, that's a small insight into my mind. Let me know if you have any favourites or entirely different ideas. Remember, this is an alternate 40K universe so anything is possible!

If you go for a Greek theme consider looking into the Minotaurs chapter, they're Greek inspired and Forgeworld has some pretty cool stuff for them

Haha don't you be tempting me into more FW purchases!

Apologies in advance because I once again got distracted from the vet squad and made... something.

I see this as either an armoured jetbike or an escape pod. Either way I am pretty fond of it! It's still open to changes so let me know if you think I could add anything else to it

It looks more like some sort of jetbike to me than an escape pod due to the heavy bolter on the front

Hmm very true, how about this for a bit of fluff:

Prosperine Dune Skimmer

While massive cities such as Tizca and Dhala cover the planet of Prospero, they are separated by thousands of miles of treacherous dunes filled with all manner of creatures. Regular transport vessels are usually used to navigate around the dunes however it is sometimes necessary to enter the heart of the sandy terrain which is naturally where the newly invented Prosperine Dune Skimmer excels.

Ever since the failed attack from the heretic Space Wolves chapter, it has been seen as a rite of passage for Thousand Sons and Prosperine Spireguard alike to venture out into the heart of Prospero's deserts to meditate among the wreckage of the Wolves' cruisers and vehicles. Due to the fact that the coarse sand and rapidly changing weather prevent entrance from jetbikes and other small vehicles (hence the luring of the Space Wolves to the deserts), the dune skimmer was crafted to withstand anything the elements could throw at it. The skimmer was met with such success that the vehicle was adopted by the Thousand Sons for missions where the light and durable vehicle proved invaluable on hostile planets for long range recon operations where typical jetbikes or landspeeders struggled with the harsh environments.

Thanks! I stole the idea from a listing I spotted on eBay and they also had some cool jetbikes that I may try and replicate as well..

Ooh possibly. It's been forever since I read that novel but all I remember was him possessing a warlord titan which would be a super cool conversion itself!

That would be awesome! A few power cutlass's wouldn't go amiss in a pirate army as well, maybe even fire support in the form of some high tech cannon-toting marines..

Lots of progress to show off today! Firstly I managed to finish painting my veteran squad which I am super happy with. The gold trim was a pain but the overall result was well worth it I think. I also like the sergeant's crest with the yellow and blue gems as it really makes him stand out and it let me crack open a paint that wasn't red or gold for a change...

I also started to work on a terminator squad yesterday with a mix of bits from the HH boardgame and the TSons set which blend together perfectly. So far just some basecoats but I can tell I am going to enjoy painting them!

Finally I challenged fellow Prosperine blogger Emberlord to a bit of a character build and this is my attempt thus far. He is pretty much built straight from the new TSons infantry box with a different top for his staff that I found in a box. The piece of ruins he is sat on will be modelled to look like it is floating once I get around to basing him.

Anyway I have quite a bit of painting to get to so enjoy the pics and I hope to update soon with some more progress!

Haha yes red is fantastic, I prefer it to many other marine colour schemes as it has a nice agressive look to it and isn't too much of a pain to paint

Tsk tsk, sounds like I should be the one nagging you!

I'm making paintfully slow progress on the sorcerer but the armour is coming along despite the fact that I have yet to decide what colour to paint his stripy sections. I wanted to go with the same yellow and blue gem look on the sergeant I just finished but I think it will unbalance the model too much. White and blue could potentially work but I'm worried he might look like a walking advert for Colgate toothpaste..

I think I might leave the staff top as is though. I accidentally splashed some wet bronze paint on a brown undercoat and it's given it a really nice metallic tinge without being too over the top. I am off work tomorrow so hopefully I can get him finished by then!
