@Red Harvest: Thanks, hope it's not too much!
@Camkierhi: Thanks!
@Gitsplitta: Thanks for stopping by.
@OMN: Glad you like it, and better still if you might find it of use!
Little more done on the tower tank. Hammered paint worked fine, and the roof might be OK with some trimming. Not yet sold on the legs, though...
C&C are welcome.
Cheers.

Much more economical than GW paints. Lol. Plus they can be used for painting too... making your own glazes for example.
Perhaps cross bracing from leg to leg? Either where they meet the tank, or closer to the ground. Check out some photos for ideas... you see tanks like this quite a bit in model railroading.

A railroad water tank is the look I was going after, I tried a three-legged scheme for the tower but it doesn't work for it, too flimsy, it gets "lost" under the tank.
I'll redo it in square floorplan instead, and add cross beams from leg to leg. That, plus the pipping going to the tank, should probable do it.
Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers.

How does one get the water out of the tower? I don't see any sort of a spout.
The pipes look nice. A bit shiny, but that could just be the lighting.

@Red H: Worry not, pipping for the tank will come long with the new tower. And yes, sprayed matt varnish turned out not matt at all, . It already has a coat of airbrushed acrylic matte finish over it and still does not tone down. I'm open to suggestions on that front, any ideas?

Testors Dullcote. Ultimate shine killer. Or, depending upon how thick the finish is, a little 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper will do the trick too. Just don't sand down to paint.

Red H: Thanks for the input, will try to hunt down some duller then, shape and texture are probably too tricky for sanding.
And further finishing updates:
(In these, the cardboard base helped to naturally counter the shine issue a bit)
Click to enlarge, and votable if you fell like it .
C&C are welcome.

Good work LT.
Liking the water pipe and it's chipped paint, and the water tower's blue-ish metal finish.
Tank looks suitably tank-y.

Pipe looks great, I would try gently rubbing it down with wire wool. You can get fine stuff, and it works well for the little nooks.
Water tower looking good, got a kind of galvanised look to it, excellent.
Excellent work on the tanks, they look perfect.

@Dr H. Glad you like them!
@Camkierhi: Thanks for the advice. I quickly test-tried it this morning and worked out fine, I'll re-take the pics once it is properly done.
On a different note, I spent the afternoon yesterday sorting and putting order in the cubs' toy-chests, lots of high-potential bits and pieces were salvaged before reaching the trash can.
This one (larger and in better shape than most) will probably became the core for the next building:

@monkeytroll: Tossing ideas around myself... Factory-like? Too small for that, maybe. A workshop, or a power/pipe line control or pumping substation? Pipes and cabling, and a smoking chimney? Some spillage on the side?
Maybe a/some heavy power transformer on the roof with cables coming down from a nearby tower? Cooling fins and power coils? And electrical risk warning signs all over the place? Could use some hazard stripes as well...
Thinking, thinking...
@Dr H: Ditto. It was more a chest/crate (two of them, actually) than a mere box! Lots of toy cars, diverse action figures and such.
This one was part of a petrol/gas station, quite big actually. This was the main building (convenience store and car shop on the side); doors, windows and other details came in stuck on coloured paper, long gone. There once were a forecourt with service aisles and gas pumps, and larger roof over it, none of which were found...
Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
Cheers.

I was going to say it looked quite shop-like. Which is unsurprising as it is a shop (of sorts).
I think it's best to make it into something that will fit with your other terrain and/or the overall aesthetic of your desired gaming table. e.g. A shop would fit well for Infinity, but not for 40k so well. Although, you could still try... I know I would...

You know those buildings you get at security stops, you know you have a nice glass bit with a nice smiley guy behind a desk, then the big bit you can not see where they all seem intent on Probing something, and looking for Narnia.
Kind of reminds me of that. Not that I have ever been there done that.

OOoooo ... yes indeed lots of potential there......
Looks like it could lend itself really well to a "Facility Entrance Guardhouse".... Can imagine the facvility name on the outer wall and the guards sitting bhind their desks checking vehicle registrations etc........
Cant wait to see what you do with it!

, now I have to get four of those!
Thanks for the input, will keep all the ideas in mind for future builds!
I like the food stand idea, though taking Dr H's advice to keep an overall aesthetic, I don't think I could do it in style that matches the rest of the scenery. Might give it shot later nonetheless, with a smaller format (trailer-like, maybe), just for kicks.
Security Stop and Facility Entrance Guardhouse sound good, and would go well with a less decayed look, meaning it could be a functioning place instead of abandoned/ruined... And there would be place for interior furnishing as well...
I'll rummage through the junk bits box and see what other things I find of interest and define the theme from there.
Cheers

Well, it could be a military food stand... a field cantina. Do it up to match your winning entry for the previous terrain contest. Get a whole set of matched terrain, living, eating, then add an armory, a command center, etc. I like terrain sets. Just sayin'
Just no crates of cats in the back. Mmmmm, mystery meats...

Short update. Scant hobby time lately, and very little progress. Another salvaged piece from the autumn clean-up, quickly turned into a rather weathered vent tower before moving on onto the larger building. (No daylight pics for the time being, raining now and probably during the upcoming weekend as well, ) Cheers.

What's more telling is that I don't consider Bladerunner to be an old film... and thinking that, tells us about how old you might be...
Water tower looks good. The rust is very good and well placed and the speckle-y affect on the metal parts is spot on.

Nice work on the flames, although they look a bit rounded.
Which Bladerunner? The one I saw in the theater when I was in High School (shows my age) or the one I saw on VHS? or the one I saw on DVD? 3 different versions. All good in their own ways mind you. Great movie. Great visuals.
Tower has a nice galvanized steel look to it. The how?
