Late to comment, but it would improve playability if the entire assembly was lifted off the ground- on stilts, meaning the footprint is reduced.

A central stalk containing an elevator door to the habs and/or several feet woudl allow models to pass around it without reducing the impressive size.

Good points angel. I’ll look at raising the hab another level.

I decided to try casting my ragnarock. Came out ok. You’ll notice some missing sections due to air bubbles I can’t seem to get out of the top of the casts.

Definently going to need the heat gun for the side panels and treads

The top to the anphelion base tunnel came out really good though. This will need the heat gun every time too but so did the original forge world one.

What's the tunnel going to be used for? And do you have any tips for someone that wants to start casting? I really want to make an Imperial Guard regiment using these guys:

but buying several boxes and only using one weapon arm doesn't seem like a good idea.

Ha, I think we saw the same announcements! Now I have to get a bunch of the kill team terrain. I wish I didn’t convince myself I wanted the board to have every piece of imperial terrain on it. I’m really running out of room

Love that model. I was thinking they would be super cool for some sort of imperial army specialist force too. I usually just recast, terrain and stuff that’s no longer In Production. Also if these aren’t multipart kits it’s going to be really hard.

Kirkee also got some work done on one of the two front buildings

And I worked on the large hab by putting some floors in. These lighting panels are a lot better looking than the originals that were just impossible to get together without huge seems

Still working hard without much to show for it except for a good pile of cast for some of my hab towers

Here’s also a layout for how hab 1 and hab 3 will attach

The walkways, monorail and just all the different levels really make this look much more "real" than most other terrain projects. The new hab-block are really great.

Thanks. I hope it doesn’t end up looking to cluttered. I just can’t stop adding stuff. I hope the new kill team terrain isn’t as good as it looks. That way I don’t have to add too much of it

Progress update on the ragnarock

The backs a little uneven and will need to get hit with the heat gun

I also want the turret to move/rotate. Is there a good LEGO piece I could use for this or will a magnet work?

I don’t know. Do you guys think the ragnarock is too long? Maybe I should turn it into a chimera and use a different shorter chassis for the leman Russ ragnarock?

I like the length, TBH. It makes it look unique, and not like a converted leman russ.

Great! That’s the answer I was looking for. I really don’t want to get distracted with having to make a different tank or accidentally turn into a tread head. That’s a deep hole.

Figuring out a hatch still

Sorry, on the days we’ve been able to get together kirkee has been caught up in the details on a balcony for the cathedral and everything I’ve worked on sucks. Plan to hopefully post some progress on the large hab building tomorrow night

And, is it just me or are all the images for the last 7 pages of this thread missing again?

Also, anyone know where to get funnels like this

?

Ok I lied. Instead of agreeing to help me finish up one of the habs Kirkee informed me he would be starting a new building. We are referring to this one as the “senate” building and it will essentially be a large tower next to the cathedral on the back right corner of the board. It will be open on the corner so the insides will be playable like several of the othes.

Here’s kirkees concept drawing

The top that he finished yesterday

And finally found some use for these parts. he will be using for the anphilion landing pad as main base and top levels. and the reapers will outer walls of course

The senate building? Will it have a pale wizened hooded man standing on a balcony somewhere?

Well, since he hasn't updated in a while I'm going to have to assume that btoliver311 was crushed when his monorail fell on top of him.

Not dead yet

Still Just making tons of casts. It takes a lot of time to make all this material .
Also trying to work on making better molds for the planetary guard. Got some new oop models that were never painted. Hoping to get better detail on the eagle. Also casting/Molding some crusaders due to the fact there are currently only 2 poses and I want more variety for my squad of 5

Good call with the skull walls in the catacombs. It isn´t even over the top compared to a lot of real life places. Will you have a skull-chandelier down there?

These new casts using 2 part molds are coming out great! It’s like there was some reason all of the tutorials said to do it this way and to include vent channels for every part.

The crusader mold below was a single mold cutt in half. Which is one way to do it but in my case this left me very little control over my flashing and honestly probably ruined the finished product. The cast above with the rouge trader guard I also cast in 2 pieces but sprayed Mann 200 mold release on the first half before pouring my second. Allowing me to pull the two parts apart later. Once I get more silicone I can sculpt up some guard with these new torsos and the regular guard legs. I think with what I have learned so far I’ll be able to manufacture much better figures going forward

You’ll also notice how much better the detail is on the top pic. That’s because I found those new oop guard that had never been painted or even used and therefore had a lot better detail to mold off of

I also thru a tank hatch and some other random stuff into the silicone cup to use up the left over

Not bad

Kirkee has been working on the senate building and it’s going to be really cool. Will probably get some good pictures of it up this weekend. The inside is going to be open and done in marble again. So he wants to add 3-4 large murals to the walls but we are stuck with what we want to use. Should we use imperial guard photos of famous generals to maybe illustrate famous leaders from our planet OR should we do more god emperor stuff?

I plan to have Celestine in my army as Well and really like this pic

Do you guys have Any good image ideas?

Other thoughts: iwant to stay away from space marine imagery and anything we don’t use in the senate building we could probably try and turn into stained glass imagery for the cathedral

I’d think like a picture of a general, then emps then Celestine, and back to emps so it would god be emperor person emperor person etc.

Im not the most well versed in imperial political lore but I would suggest using characters who can be tied to the political system of the city/planet/sector you are basing this board in. If you wanted to go with the Celestine approach then I would work her presence into the lore of your board or pick a sector/planet/city which has had Celestine on it b4. They probably wouldn't have images of her up if she hadn't helped them previously.

I would use the God emperor and then more localized figures based off of location. In actual hero worship cults of the past people would typically worship a figure and then try to work their own local figure into their lives. For example some early Spanish churches said that the disciple Peter wasn't executed in Rome but instead escaped to Spain. This was an attempt to weave their own history into that of Catholicism. I would attempt to represent this same type of hero worship by having images of generals your sector will identify with placed next to an image of the Emperor.

These are just my own thoughts on the subject, but I hope they help.

Also try to pick images with similar art styles since the murals would most likely have been painted by the same artist or same set of artists.

I'm looking forward to seeing the completed senate building, it's gonna look great

I'll agree with having local figures presented but the biggest picture should absolutely be the god emperor.

Would you be willing to share the tutorial you used for casting as I'm really curious as to how you've done it to get them so smooth.

Holy Terra.

If you're up for the challenge, I'd suggest trying to paint the murals freehand. It's not actually as difficult as it sounds: first paint the whole wall to completion, with highlights and whatnot. Then trace the image onto the wall with pencil. Then it's just a matter of painting the mural as you would paint a regular model, with one exception: instead of washes, make the base coat as dark as you can. Then just layer over with you base coat.
It might seem like a ton of work, but it's really rewarding and plus it ties the murals into the rest of the board since it'll all be painted by you. If you make any mistakes, just chip off that part of the wall/painting and say it was damaged

Hey guys,

All great suggestions. I’ll share with kirkee when he comes over today and compare against the thoughts and images he had in mind

In regards to doing a molding/casting tutorial, I don’t think I’m the best guy for that. I’m still in the learning phase and making a lot of mistakes (some costly) that I wouldn’t want to recommend to others. For example look at my first tank

This thing has more gaps, bubbles, warping and even areas I can’t get the resin to flow into then areas that have turned out right. Worse yet I haven’t figured out how I would make it better.
