Early WIP of the next Deathguard squad. Going to outfit them with 2 blight launchers, 2 bolters and the champion with powerfist, plaguesword and plasma gun. They will be a midfield squad to support poxwalkers and hold objectives.

Ooh nasty! There's something extra squicky about mutated nurgly flesh painted in completely regular skintones.

I like it!

Those came out beautifully Yorkright. Wow... really nice. So jealous of your Nurgle army! How many points do you have painted and ready to go? Do you have a battalion yet?

Thanks guys, I do love me some Nurgly party boys.

@Gitz, I can run a battalion with the last squad painted, 3 hQs, 3 troops, 1 elite, 2 fast and Mortarion. Comes to almost 1700 pts, if I add some of my "older" tanks (predator and rhino) it comes close to 2k. There is also a 20 man blob of Plaguebearers, 9 plaguedrones, and some nurglings I can add for extra slimey fun.

Should have the last squad finished and based tonight, will post pics if I can.

Thanks for following.

Your painting skills have really stepped up in the last year Yorkright. They look fantastic! I can't wait to get a chance to take them on should you ever get a chance to play 40k again! (poke, poke)

They're some really nice DG! If anything, they're almost too bright. Unless it is the light, I'd consider toning it down just a little, or even weathering it. That's up to you really, since I know some prefer cleaner DG.

@Gitz, thank you I have been trying to up my game. Poke noticed will let you know when I can get together.
@Warboss dakka I do like a bit cleaner look to my models, to many years of trying emulate the GW style of painting.
@Solar, CK and Dr H, thank you gentlemen.

So I dug up my predator and rhino that were painted a couple of years ago and want to update them to match up with my DG. The plan is not to strip them but dirty em up a bit. Here is a few before and after pics, I think the predator needs a wash of camoshade or agrax earthshade. CC welcome.

Not where I should be

Beautiful green. The marines look amazing. Stunningly good. The predator is looking great, that green is just gorgeous.

Me personally, I would pick out a few of the edges with a little metallic and give her a Angrax wash. Make her look a little worn at least.looks a little factory fresh at the mo.

That's lovely green, but maybe a tad too 'clean'. have you considered adding a yellow or brownish hue to the green? Not sure if that's possible with them being airbrushed and all, but I feel the green looks different from the one one the death guard. May just be the lighting though.

Dirtying up is an improvement, but I'm with CK on this one. Get the AB out and do a dirty yellow top highlight to the bright green panels.

Good work.

Yeah, I'm with them, there's a bit too much contrast between the "dirty" bits and the bulk of the paintwork.

You could either dirty it all up OR splash on some pools of washes (browns, blacks, tans, greys) about the dirty/rusty bits to "blend" them into the tank more; to show it spreading across a previously pristine tank. Make it look more like deliberate spot dirty bits and less "stuck-on" dirt on clean tank.

Thanks for the input guys, still staring at it trying to figure out how it will look with some washes. Not sure my Airbrush work is good enough to just add some spots on the panels or not.

Ah, the wonderful trepidationof having to change up an existing piece. I know that feeling of dread all too well. Still, it's usually for the best in the end, so don't be afraid to dive in!

Not where I should be

Give the whole thing a spray of varnish and then have a go, that way if you dont like it you can always just pull it back to the varnish and matt coat it.

TBH she is beautiful as is, don't worry at us, live with it for a while and see how you feel.

Agreed- good as is (compliments and complements the Guard figures very nicely) or push the edge of the envelope and try a new technique. I very much understand not wanting to mess something up that is so good already, though. I've got those Lothern Seaguard that I kitbashed several years ago, which are decently base coated- I really want to try some of the things I've learned since the 90's and bring them up just that one more notch, but not at the expense of risking ruining them.

Fortunately, I have a surfeit of other projects to work on as an excuse to delay making a decision!

Keep up the good work

All right I got off my @$$ and decided to add some chipping, scratches and a bit more rust. Tracks also looked a bit to clean, more rust and agrellan earth to the rescue. Thanks all for the encouragement, hopefully it has lost that “just driven off the lot look”.
