Been fooling around with some Ideas for with the recent drop to vehicles.
The way I see it - you got to go Ironhands.
Termy Libby Master (heal tanks and +1 to hit) (+1 to cast relic)
Master of forge (Ironstone)
(There are a lot of good WL trait options so just pick 2 of them)
3x Heavy intercessors with stalkers and HB
1X Relic Contemptor with Rockets and Volkite
3x Storm speeders (2 melta 1 las)
3x Gladiators (2 Reaper 1 valiant)
What do you think?

Okay. What's the biggest # of dreadnoughts marines can field? And the old classlc how many you can field? Is 3 max or do they come in squadrons.
There's guy selling his models and it has 6 standard dreads. Think i have librarian dread and dred or two. Can i use them all and how many other dreads i would need?
If i can build all dread army all the better.

Depends what "normal" means to you?
You can field 3 of each datasheet (at 2000pts). They can't be taken in squads.
Of the "classic box dreadnought", you can cram a whole bunch in, as they have a zillion datasheet variants, depending on what chapter you run them with (blood angels and space wolves have unique datasheets.
With either of those factions you could easily run an army entirely of a dozen or so box dreads. And even codex chapters could make a list with 9 box dreads in it (3x basic dreads, 3x vendreads, 3x ironclads)

Ven dread isn't that distinct. It's fairly common for people to run the standard model as a ven. At least amongst my gaming group.
All it takes is some gold trim or something and voila, ven dread.

Yah, the only difference between regular and venerable is a couple extras from your bits box and a better paintjob. Never seen anyone have an issue with that.

I feel like the standard Dread just costs too many points. The Redemptor does cost a bit more, but it's a lot more bang for your buck.

IMO the standard and venreable dreads need to go down about 20 points to consider over comparable units.
The Ironclad could use a 10-15 drop as well.

If you have a need for some dedicated long range anti-tank on a non-degrading 2+ BS, sure. Likewise, if you want something that can wade into combat without being reduced to hitting on 4s or 5s with it's limited but high quality melee.
The Redemptor is a better generalist than any of the old Dreadnoughts, but the older Dreads can be tailored to fill a niche while maintaining their output regardless of wounds.

Aha. I think I was thinking of the relic contemptor. I am to understand it is there to throw out 16 D2 shots? Supposebly anti marine shots? For 150 points.
What is the Leviathan good for?

The Relic Contemptor does indeed get 16 D2 shots. They are 45'', Str 6 AP 0. They also cause a mortal wound in addition to damage on an unmodified wound roll of 6. The idea is that you sand-blast people making them fail armor saves and throwing in a few mortals on top of that. The Contemptor is Core, which helps. It also really likes the Devastator doctrine so chapters that can give it more AP are good.
The Leviathian is similar, 16 shots of Str 7 -1 AP, 2D. It can get a pair of smaller Volkite as well, but it costs a good deal more.

I am not that into the competettive scene. Mostly play with my GSC. But I found 2 spare dreadnuoghts from 5th edition I never build. I ordered some wulfen dreadnought arms online. Figured I could rock the wulfen dreadnought.
It would be cool to make a dreadnouht spam list. I already own a redemptor dreadnought. I have 2 Venerable dreadnoughts I build for a 5th edition grey knight project that went nowhere. I could paint them into Space Wolves. However the regular and venerable dreadnought chassises does not seem that good. The apeal was always to use them as a counter chage unit. It would probably be better to double down on the redemptor.
That got me curius to what every one is talking about. If it is just blasting infantery I do not think it is something I will assemble. Space Wolves blend infantery quite well in melee already.

Hey folks, quick question here:
With the recent chapter approved drop to landraider costs I was thinking of running a list including 2 of those bad boys for my LGS 1000pt games.
Essentially, I was thinking something very simple with just tactical marines, HQ and those two big metal boxes (One crusader and one vanilla flavor).
My question here is: for 1000pt games would this make me "that guy"? Would it instead make me totally non-competitive? I haven't yet had a chance to play even a single 9th ed game as my LGS is only opening up for in-person games next month. I want something reasonably competitive, fun, and relatively simple.

These days I think there would less issue then prior. Bringing LRs in low point games used to a a little bit of a “that guy” move, as not everyone had ways to deal with AV14 at low points.

So this is my two cents. I don't think it will be competitive generally speaking because it locks up too many points in assets that don't play the primary or the secondary objective games well. 9n top of that, they are fairly simple to "trade up" against. A cheap squad of eradicators will mess them up for example. On the small board size, getting some sort of cheap bodies to tag them is fairly trivial especially if your marines are sitting inside them rather than screening. That also means it's easy to get units with any multi-damage, high AP melee into them as well.
Obscuring terrain is going to limit their field of fire so their offensive output probably won't feel like it's pulling its weight.
It looks like you are going to have something like 20 tac marines in the list assuming you go with a barebones captain as HQ. If they are sitting in the land raiders, they aren't using their obsec to score you primary, or setting screens, or shooting, or scoring secondaries. Once they pop out they aren't that big of threat themselves and they aren't durable enough to withstand a lot of high AP firepower running around these days.
I find that balanced (vs skewed) lists tend to result in the most fun games for both players.

What do people think about dreadnought ranged weapons? As far as I can tell exchanging the melee weapon for a rocketlauncher is always bad. You get better ranged suport elsewhere, and that dreadnought close combat weapon can be really strong on a dreadnought body. Especially vs something that can not really kill it.
But what are the good ranged options? I see arguments for meltaguns (very strong this edition.) But I also see the other weapons having an argument.
The one weapon I am not sure about is the hellfrost cannon. Is that a good weapon? What do you think?

To me, the Plasma Cannon is a decent free option. Assault Cannon is also free, but it's bad. I used to like the Twin Lascannon, but it's EXPENSIVE AF now. Multimelta is a lot cheaper and better vs. some targets, so I don't know that I'd ever take the lascannon anymore. Hard to find Multimelta bits for a Dread though (unless I'm missing something). As for the Helfrost, I don't think I'd ever take it over the MM.
As for trading the CCW for the Missile Launcher, I think it depends on what you want your Dread to do. If it's mostly backfield support, it probably won't see any combat so it might as well have another ranged weapon. If you're moving it up the board, definitely take the CCW. And only take the Heavy Flamer on the CCW if you have 5 extra points kicking around.

From a practical building POV, it’s not that hard to take a MM from an attack bike/land speeder/other and put it in a spare arm slot from the Ven Dread kit, which has extras. Or grab an old AoBR dread from ebay.

The SW dread comes with a multi melta. Also, SW players like to make wulfen dreads and Murderfang. Bjørn can take a melta. But trade with your SW buddies.

Dreadnoughts are really, really good right now. Multi-role units that can act as bullies and just soak the 2D weapons that are the bane of standard marines.
I'd recommend at least two of some variety in any marine list, but I've been absolutely loving Ironclads. T8 is a massive breakpoint and they come with a very versatile kit. 2 HK's allow them to contribute to long-range fire as they close the distance. Hurricane bolters mitigate them getting tied down by hordes. Melta-gun is a fun surprise for close in targets. And of course, chainfists are absolutely terrifying for any high wound unit - especially vehicles.

They aren't bad. I play one with march of the ancients in ironhands. Pretty nasty with a warlord trait. I play it with flamers because that is what I have modeled but I think melta guns is the best build.

I play Ultramarines and two Invictor Warsuits......Set them up 9" away from deployment, if I don't get 1st turn I use stratagem to redeploy.

Sadly the Space Wolves Dreadnought bits do not have Twin Lascannon..... which is actually the best choice for Bjorn.
