Posted on Warseer, first a redshirt rumour, then some serious rumours:
Paull wrote:To be taken with plenty salt - rumour from a GW store manager
Was in my local GW and was almost away to buy the warhammer fortress for me and my buddies to use with the new blood in the badlands book and the store manager wandered over to me at the PC in the shop.
He whispered to me "i wouldn't buy that one just now, as there is a new one coming out soon"
I have no other info to go on other than what he told me, but seems strange why he would say that as i was about to buy the current one.
not sure if any of the more reliable rumour mongers out there can add to this if they have heard similar?
Eldargal wrote:There has been a new fortress kit ready for some time, apparently. I've heard of its existence from a couple of sources but nothing about an imminent release. There is a lot of terrain ready to go into production that hasn't been released, apparently.
Darnok wrote:I wouldn't rule out a new WHF fortress for the coming months. I don't have any solid rumours about one, but it would make sense. And I also wouldn't rule out the BitBL siege rules in WD or on the webpage together with this new fortress.
Urgat wrote:I don't believe it one bit, for various reasons >>
Harry wrote:I heard there was a new much more warhammery 'Mighty fortress' coming... heard that over a year ago .... then heard it was done. Then didn't hear anything else about it.
Not sure skullvane Manse wouldn't be described as a much more Warhammery fortress?
(So have wondered if that was it?)
I heard they would be making more individual pieces rather than one generic fortress.
So maybe Skullvane is the first of a number of similar pieces?
But then again you cant play a proper siege game with Skullvane Manse. (Cool though it is.)
I heard that the Blood in the Badlands was released earlier than expected and that it originally had another scenery kit planned for release with it.
I heard that it was originally planned for March next year (2012)
I heard that is when the next scenery is still being released.
I heard a name for this scenery (from a top quality source of fine rumours and an all round good chap ) ...
... it sounds like a 'fort' to me.
Or at the very least a Watchtower of some kind ..... maybe with a bell ?

Skullvane Manse does have that 'pier to nowhere' next to the stairs. Maybe it was designed to connect to a wall or something else.

Why more fantasy terrain? 40k leaves much more to be desired, not to mention you can pick up (CHEAPER) fantasy-themed terrain at any old hobby shop.
I don't understand what GW is pushing all this new terrain for. They aren't pieces you buy multiples of, which I would have thought would've been the idea.

The current mighty fortress seems to be an excellent kit, very useful, and not laden with skulls. Also, it is a good price.
So naturally these things must change... get ready for "Skullberg - the mighty fortress with walls made of skulls, a gaping giant skull mouth as a gate, and sized to fit a whole regiment of 12 figures in the courtyard, only $300"

Are you serious? I have no problem filling several tables with GW 40k terrain (e.g. CoD buildings), but have to order from obscure Canadian (Kobblestone), US (Pope Enterprises) and Spanish (Escenorama) garage shops to find decent Fantasy terrain for even one table. If you don't like skull towers and skull temples, what is left at GW?

You can play fantasy fine without terrain is the thing. Id like to see more non tower based terrain. Fortress is cool i guess too bad its basically just more towers and the new siege rules are incredibly unbalanced and not a lot of fun.
Most of the wfb terrain can be made with all the current models especially garden of morr and the storm of magic pieces
Id prefer models over wfb terrain you dont need. Same way i thought that dreadfleet was a waste of production capacity when many armies need many models

At my FLGS most people HATE buildings in Fantasy. (Witch is funny, since the same people HATE the intact building rules in 40k.) Most people argue they much prefer boards with a healthy amount of ruins.
The Terriean most people like in Fantsey is: Impassible Hills, Small Hills, and Forests with removable trees, Swamps, ect. Bassicly things that you can acctully set your regiments on top of, or impassible stuff.
If they do have to use a watch tower/manor/ect they they ignore the building rules, and make it a impassible block.
These same people also hate the watch tower mission with a passion.
More or less I'm from a group were the mind set is "Fantasy dose not in any way need a bunch of silly buildings." All the above terrien I list is available from GW, and very very to scratch build after visiting a model train store/Hardware store.
I get the mind set why people feel Fantasy doesn't really NEED terriean kits. Also the mind set, that GW needs to stop shoving these needless fantasy buildings down out throats and making them more and more required by the rules.

Exactly my thought.
Lockark wrote:

We've found that putting an "occupation cap" on buildings can help. And generally, buildings provide some of the biggest LOS blocking terrain available in a game where so many people complain about Trule Line of Sight- so I like 'em.
We've got a pretty good store for gaming at right now, but I hope to one day build a gaming table and terrain set to allow for home games so that snacks and beers can accompany the dice rolls...
And also:
Big thanks to Kroothawk for keeping this forum supplied with WHFB rumors. Really appreciate it!

40k gets enough attention, let fantasy have it's moments.

As someone else has already inferred, there are quite enough towers in GWs range now - Watchtower, Dreadstone Blight/Witchfate Tor & Skullvane Manse. A fort might well be interesting, but it would probably be unaffordable (i.e. > £100).
If GW want to do more fantasy terrain, then a few river sections (with bridges, fords etc) would get my attention

I think the reason they don't do things like rivers is that there are already several companies doing them just fine. Armorcast makes a huge line of nicely detailed resin river pieces. And I guarantee that GW could not compete with Armorcasts prices on them as GW has too much overhead as a company and feels the need to price gouge as much as possible.
What I'd like to see from GW is themed pieces for each army. Empire already has them, but why does EVERY battle have to take place in the Empire or in the middle of nowhere? WTB some elven scenery, or O&G buildings.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I would actually be really tempted by a (new and improved) GW fortress!
Or at least, maybe it would get other maker's to up their game... the idea of building one from scratch from blocks made with Hist Art molds is still on the table for me, but sounds like too much work to be feasible.
Since I have a huge troll army, I'd love to have a castle for them to storm... particularly with the skeleton of siege rules that GW put out. I know they're basic, but it's something I'd really like to use

If GW did a really good supplement for siege rules I might be interested.
Unfortunately, I suspect they will do to this what they've done with all the other terrain recently, make an amazing thing that I love and then utterly foul it up by covering every square inch in skulls.
So it's going to end up looking like this...

So just use all the skull infested terrain as the haunted ruins of Praag in Kislev and its all good.
I dont mind the small skull stacks in the windows myself but I wish the big ones were optional bits.
Until I see this for myself I will continue to use my old Mighty Foam Fortress.
I always thought an additional fortress-details kit would be cool; with some interior buildings and stairs to compliment the existing fortress kit.

That's because GW put out a new fantasy ruleset the previous year, forgot to have any army books ready to go soon thereafter, and spent the next year trying to make up for lost time...
