Hey all, I am a student at GWU and was wondering if there's any Dakka-ites in the nearby area. There aren't any game shops downtown that I know of, and the couple places I've been to in Bethesda and northern VA have been pretty unimpressive. Anybody in the nearby area?

Party on, dudes.

Have you checked out Dream Wizards? I live in Bethesda and thats where I go to play. Game nights are usually Thursday Nights and Saturdays. You can usually find a game of Warhammer, 40K, or Warmachine on either of those days. There is also another store farther up Rockville Pike which I have never been to, Other Realms. From what I have heard its pretty good. Let me know if you have any other questions. -Tron

There is also a 40k contingent at the University of Maryland. The Terrapin Gaming Club is the official gaming club on campus. College Park is on the green metro line, and has a free shuttle from the stop. Dream Wizards is on the red line (the White Flint stop) but its a 10 to 15 minute walk from the stop. Both are easily accessible from the beltway.

Other Realms is great but it's not 'further up the Pike'.  It's in Gaithersburg ~10-15 min from the highway and (fairly) bus/metro accessable.

If you like Dream Wizards then you'd like Other Realms as they share key management people.

I've been to Dream Wizards a couple times. I got frustrated with it because they always seem to schedule a Heroclix or MtG tournament or something every time I have a free Saturday (for instance, tomorrow: heroclix and MtG). Played a game or two there, seemed like a nice place. I just never see people playing 40k!

Party on, dudes.

When do you all get together at UMD? I'm taking this semester off from school and have been looking for more nights to game.

SaimAlendryelII: When's game night at Other Realms? Thanks for the correction.

Unfortunately, I have not lived within 400 miles of Other Realms in over two years.  Therefore I do not have current scheduling info.

And with both places it is quite important to have a calendar to avoid running into a tournament.  At other times the gaming is good.

Yeah, during the spring/summer the weekends are generally full of magic stuff. But often they still have room for some 40k gaming, usually a table or two. I go every saturday and so far even with all the tournaments have been able to get a game in. Just call ahead to see if they'll have rom. This saturday there will be about 6 of us there looking to play. You should stop by. -Tron

I'll be back in NoVa in July, I'll remember those places. I used to go to... hell what was it called, outside the beltway about 45 minutes? there were two stores, same chain... iron fist plays there...

Good stores, just a real b*tch to get to after work.

If you want to play in Downtown DC, drop me a line at james.puckett@gmail.com. I'm live in Dupont and am desperate to start playing 40k again! I can host games (nice big condo behind Annie's steak house.) if needed!

I'm in the NoVA area myself... I know we have a GW in Springfield mall, and there's a real small place just off of 66 near seven corners right outside of Alexandria that I'm going to try this weekend for the first time.

A bizarre array of focusing mirrors and lenses turning my phrases into even more accurate clones of

Matt - Dude, I've sent you one or two PMs on ATT. NoVA has plenty of gaming places....just not in D.C. Disappointing since I was at Gtown too. There's a black hole of gaming around D.C., so you'll have to head out a few miles north or south to find any. Anyway, the IFL has a 40k league based on Chantilly and Woodbridge game parlors but that's far. There's springfield and E&E. Give me a ring on ATT or here sometime.

Anyway, for the rest of you we can PM each other and perhaps set something up in D.C. itself. I have a friend or two that's near me (I live about one mile from the Pentagon and Ballston in Arlington) and it sucks to have to drive 8 miles to springfield when Rosslyn and Gtown's only a mile away...

KK - Mind telling me when you're coming?  I'd love to meet you.  I just hope I'm not disappointed since right now I'm imagining you as some sort of awesome American-Japanese hybrid who knows 50 different martial arts, is muscular but not too buff to impede movement, carries ninja stars, and can turn into a super saiyan.

Edit: Just realized that we have an IFL member or two who've been planning to have a weekly gaming night at their basement ever since one of them moved closer to D.C. He either lives in fairfax or alexandria, but closer than E&E.  I'll see what they're up to and at the very least it's closer than having to go down to springfield or so.
