Before I read the article and found out what fracking actually was, I assumed it was slang for having sex. Would have made for a funnier article...

Before I read, isn't 'fracking' the terminology used when drilling for shale gas?

EDIT: Ha, more or less right; useless knowledge for the win!

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

It is, if you watch Battlestar Galactica.

For example: "I want to frack Katee Sackhoff."

So, some engineers, whilst drilling for highly flammable shale gas set off some underground explosions that in turn cause earthquakes?

Who'd a thunk it?

You guys are misreading this. It's not actually fracking that's causing it, it's a disposal injection well. It's where they take leftover fracking fluid and pump it underground.

Fracking is horrible, but this story is not actually about fracking.

Basically, there are a TON of these wells that aren't causing earthquakes and one that is. It's perfectly reasonable that we move forward just monitoring any new wells for signs of this without any real increase in risk or expense.

The cheapest thing is probably to wait to see if earthquakes start to happen, then compensate the people affected.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yeah, I mean the geologist I heard interviewed about it thought that now that they've stopped pumping, the earthquakes should stop within a few months.

We're also talking about earthquakes in the 3-5 range with a pretty small affected area, so most people nearby might not have even noticed.

And again, this type of well is not unusual, so this is a really fascinatingly rare occurring.

That area of Ohio has experienced at least 11 earthquakes since last April. We're not known for our earthquakes either .

No big deal. They just have to dispose of the fluids without reinjecting them. Except Oklahoma, because Oklahoma is flat, and maybe earthquakes will create some hills. Plus its Oklahoma.

All true. Although people have been noticing the 4 to 5 range Earthquakes.

I also find it interesting that Ohio has a significant potion of these waste water wells because:
1. It is reasonably close to where Frakking first became popular.
2. Limited regulation on these Wells

I laugh everytime I hear the term "Frakking" tahnsk to my days playing Shadowrun.
