I decided to give dakka a chance to participate in this. So, here's a pic of the terrain:

Shall we distribute it as:
1. NOVA,
2. a general spread
3. clumpiness of some ruins here, AT there and some open kill zones
4. Other suggestions (legit ones ... unless you're really damned funny )

Poster Dok and I decided to square off and get in a practice game with the BAO mission specs, which is 1750 in points, and all three RB missions played for simultaneously.

Once he showed up, we talked about it, and, Zid, we went with your vote, but brought in the tall "Cathedral" piece that gets built a lot and then thinned out the terrain from the 25% I had first laid out. Here's the terrain set up:

My CSM list
DP - MoS, Wings, Lash
Sorcerer - Lash
PMs - x7 including 2 pgs, rhino, icon
PMs - x7 including 2 flamers, rhino, icon
BKs - x9 including 2 plasma pistols, Skull Champion (pw/mb), icon, rhino - ea
lesser daemons x20
three pairs of Oblits

His (from memory)
Bel - TH/SS
Ezek - Force Shield
DW crew TH/SS - CML, Apoth, Pole, (Cmd crew)
DW crew TH/SS - CML
DW crew TH/SS - CML
DW crew TH/SS - CML
DW crew TH/SS - Chainfist
three typhoons - CML, MM each

Dok's DeathWing is in seriously good form . Actually he's in building stage, and even borrowed a couple of my speeders:

Pre-game plan: I planned on focusing on one unit of termies at a time. The KB - LD assault combo is going to be a main hit, with Lashes assisting. 90 odd dice 'to hit' on the assault, many being Furious Charge STR. Termies are resilient, but not that much, right? Oblits will either lay down plas-can on Lashed groupings or shoot speeders. PMs will hold objectives.

I figured DW is going to be weaker on objective grabbing, but I was likely to not do well on the Kill Point part of the mission, having the rhinos. Also, KBs tend to do a lot of smashing and then like in the Ciaphas Cane novel (2nd appearance of the demon chick? Book #3?), get themselves killed anyway. So, meet him hard on the right flank (as it was developing) and Lash him off objectives as I elected to give him first Turn.

Dok will have to post in what his plans were.

----------------------------------

I put a SG objective lower right and Dok places one just over 12" away from that. With DW, he's going to need them close together.

The third SG is on the far left.

Dok's Deathwing line up on my right, where the two SG objectives are concentrated. He has one unit arriving by DW assault. The termie with the pole is on top of the C&C objective.

He puts two speeders on my left flank.

View from the center terrain piece with the SG objective in the bottom right corner of the picture. His C&C objective is being stood on by a terminator in the upper right.

My main force hunkers down in the corner behind the Cover for my rhinos. My C&C objective is the pair of oil barrels. I Reserve the PMs with flamers and the LDs, of course.

My last pair of oblits will be on their own on the far left. I debated it a bit and thought they'd be able to handle this flank, with the PM rhino coming in from Reserve. The one unit Dok was likely to DS in, with a speeder or two for support couldn't hurt Oblits too bad. I mean no AP2 to worry about.

I don't try to Seize the Initiative.

Turn 1 - DW

Using DeathWing Assault, a team of termies arrives a little rearward for the scatter, but not bad.

Speeders move, one swing around to help with my Oblit pair on my left flank, the other heads to center table.

The rest move up.

The red painted typhoon survives a DT test.

Shooting from the CMLs barely Immobilized the PM thino and shaken the KBs' rhino. I made a lot of Cover Saves.

---------------------------------

Turn 1 - CSM

The KBs' rhino romps through terrain and I pop smoke. Here, I had a brain fart: The sorcerer gets out of his rhino and joins the Oblits. Somehow I tircked myself into thinking the PMs' rhino was shaken, not just Immobilized. Otherwise, the sorcerer should have stayed inside.

Left flank Oblits move over for some LoS to enemy.

Shooting:
Oblits kill one with TL-plasmaguns.

My oblits stun the typhoon. After being lashed together for a good grouping, the other oblits kill two with plas-cans.

SG - DW 0 - CSM 0
C&C - CSM 0, DW 0
KPs - none

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Turn 2 - DW

The previously lashed unit of 3 termies move back under the typhoon and terrain.

The rest plod forward. We're looking at Ezekiel (the Asmodai model), Belial (no left hand, Iron Halo), an Apothecary (chaplain model), Banner Bearer, CML, and 3 dudes.

On the left flank, there's some shifting, giving the termie CML LoS and staggering the unit so it now has a SG objective.

Deathwing Shooting, Turn 2

First thing, a couple CML shots into my olibts. I roll a one. One Oblit dead. Then the speeder opens up, produces two wounds of ID fun, and I roll this:

I have PMs coming in Reserve, but without the oblits, I don't think they can take this flank. Crap.

Other shooting doesn't do much and two DW units Ran. I make a few more Smoke saves on the KBs' rhino.

Turn 2 - CSM Movement
Both my PMs and Lesser Daemons arrive. Belial and Ezekiel are close. Surely, 9 KBs and 20 LDs can take 'em, right? I risk a couple LDs on D-terrain so the KBs have a straight shot at Bel's unit. They disembark, move up.

They're only 7 PMs, so I make the conscience decision to abandon the left flank and have them arrive with the main body of my army. Pop Smoke.

Turn 2 - CSM Shooting
I re-stun and Immobilize the speeder. Faintly, to the right by the car keys, that same group got re-Lashed, dragged out into the open and back, but Gets Hot! and a heavy scatter net no wounds.

KBs shoot at Bel's unit. Ezekiel tried "Force Shield" (IIRC) and promptly failed the psychic attempt, committing Perils, and suffering a wound. The box-cars are sitting there.

The KBs produce a few wounds. The one assigned to Ezek fails and he's at 2 wounds before the assault.

Turn 2 - CSM Assault
The LDs get ready to eat.

The scrum begins.

Believe it or not, 19 of the LDs are in range to take swings.

The Skull Champion has a PW and uses on Ezekiel. Ding. 1 KP for Chaos! Also, the apothecary and a termie buy the farm. The Apoth saved his buds during Init 5 when the KBs swung, but he died under daemon blows.

DW & Bel swing back, mean and hard.

With the apothecary's FNP, and average rolling on my part, and good rolling for Dok, the assault doesn't go too well, and I lose 6 KBs. So, lose by 3, meaning 3 Armor Saves. I lose two more, including the Skull Champion to Fearless Saves. Two LDs, too.

SG - CSM 0, DW 1, one contested (the h2h it on top of it)
C&C - CSM 1, DW 0
KPs - CSM 1, DW 1

Turn 3 DW

Movement

The left flank heads for center table.

The GK-proxies head for the tarpitted Belial unit.

The oft-lashed trio head for the DP and rhino.

Shooting
A CML or two and the PMs' rhino is exploded. I pretty much stopped making Cover Saves from Smoke Launchers. The PMs ride it out okay.

Empty rhino, easy KP for DeathWing's plethora of krak missile offense.

Assault phase

The 2nd unit of DW mingles into the combat.

My dice continue on the downward spiral. I kill one of his, but lose 11 of mine, including the Fearless saves. This picture is in mid-round, as the KB is already gone, failing to hurt Bel.

Dok is measuring the Pile In. The original Comd. Sqd. is down to the Banner. There's two silly LDs still fighting.

End of Turn 3
SG CSM 0, DW 1
C&C CSM 1, DW 0
KP - CSM 1, DW 4

Turn 3 - CSM

Most of my movement was defensive. PMs back up, and I figured the area terrain (black crater of the exploded rhino) would hamper the incoming DeathWing unit's assault. I would rapid fire them to no result.

My one pair of oblits move up, to contest my SG objective and get possible plasmagun range on what's going to be left over from the scrum with Belial and the LDs.

I'd forgotten that Chaos rhinos could repair. I rolled it and came up with a movable tank. The other PMs now have a viable ride.

I believe this was finally destroyed by plasmagun PMs as the center Oblits failed to hit. Obliterator failure continues.

Awrighty, I'm confused on the exact sequence here. There were three termies. The DP either assaulted three, killing two and took two wounds in the process and Combat was a push or I took this picture in mid-sequence.

I *did* have my Oblits step up and assault here, but that doesn't make sense chronologically now. Huh. The little white dice next to the oblit is a Gets Hot! failed save from earlier. Yes, my dice are that bad.

At the end of it, the DP and Oblits managed the Kill Point and Consolidated behind terrain.

In the last of the LD/Belial fight, the two LDs go down. Bel and the Banner Bearer Consolidate in the direction of the DP (seen above) and the other DW unit Consolidated back heading for the C&C & SG objectives.

Not pictured, I left my sorcerer unattached by the rhino in the back field. I had a brainfart, detaching him from one set of oblits, intending to attach him to the other and the red speeder had been stunned back in Turn 2. I forgot about it Turn 3.

Very sportingly, Dok allowed that he might still be attached to the r-edge oblits. I felt I should pay for my mistakes, but then again, all this was going badly. I decided rolling a d6 for it would be sporting and ease my conscience. The die went against being attached, so Dok found LoS with the Red speeder and shot the sorcerer, who failed his Cover Save. Oy.

Turn 4 DW
This is a repeat shot, but those termies just look so far away.

They move up to here. It's a little fudgey, but Dok is cool enough to say he needs a Difficult Terrain roll to get to the Obliterators. He gets a double 5

The termies are a bit strung out, and this is how it looks after Defenders React.

Even with only three Thunder Hammers in range to swing, the two Oblits get splattered, while failing to deal any damage in return. Dok Consolidates them in a line.

Belial and the Banner Bearer also have to cross terrain to get into assault. Which they do. Dok hasn't really had any bad dice.

Belial and the BB manage to finish off the DP and the two oblits, while they did manage to kill the Banner Bearer. The 3 and 2 are my DP's Invuln Save attempts.

I'm getting my teeth kicked in, but with only Fearless Plague Marines left, why give up?

Movement

I've sent the rhino off to possibly contest the DW objectives. The dice gods decided that yes, they'd allowed me to repair it earlier, as well as make the D-Terrain test for going over the rocks. Yes, you may commence laughing at both my aspiration that this will work and the capricious dice-gods' humor.

Popped Smoke. That's Belial in the background in front of the wrecked KB rhino.

I bring the PMs around to produce as many shooting wounds as possible.

Both Pm units unload into them. Out of shot, there is actually one PM in the plasmagun crew within securing range of the C&C objective.

They'll kill one.

In retrospect, I might've given Belial some attention, as he's edging up on the right table edge, but getting these DWs off the objective is more toward the angle of winning ... even though, yes, the game has been a foregone conclusion for some time.

You killed a couple in shooting with the oblits I believe and then I got a wound on the DP when you charged me and you failed your fearless roll.

Yeah, something like that.

Any post-game analysis Dok, or was your game pretty straight forward?

I can see lotsa mistakes on my part, barring crappy dice and all that.

Anyway, here's the end:

Turn 5 DW

Speeders move up and do some shooting. I really made a poor decision not to shoot these easy KPs consistently from game's Start.

In the background, my last - ditch rhino effort has ended in an Immobilize from various krak missiles. Belial moves up.

Termies angle to assault the PMs.

Shooting and Assault: Those PMs are done spreading contagion and misery. Meanwhile the other PM crew took a few casualties from other shooting, reducing them to five models. I pulled the models closest to Bel, keeping him from getting into assault.

Turn 5 - CSM

My boys move up, to shoot the DW off the SG objective. But it won't be enough. 2 termies will hold their ground contesting the SG.

I do try to repair the rhino, but that fails. Heh, Turn 7 that *might* have been useful.

At the end of 5 turns, I'm losing:

Seize Ground - CSM (contested), DW 2
C&C tied
KPs, CSM 4, DW 10

We roll for game's end, but it goes on, but not much longer.

Turn 6 DW

In the back ground, my last rhino gets wrecked. Bel and the trio assaults in. The PMs fold like cheap card tables.

That's it. Chaos get tabled.

I feel like I played it pretty tight. Killing the Oblits on the weak side early was pretty key for me. The stopped you from being able to back that side up at all.
I wish I would've committed with the middle unit a bit earlier, but I can't argue with the results. I really like the redundant nature of this army. Having lots of troops is something that's new to me. Having troops that live through things is even newer, haha.

Like I mentioned that night, I think you would've been much better off just lashing me back and playing for the objectives. I can only move 6" forward and you move me further back then that on average. With only two squads moving to threaten you, it would've forced me to commit more to that side, which might have let you get back in on the weak side.
