Subject: Music to listen to while painting and modeling
Going to start my army on Tuesday when I fly back into California. I have 1500 points of Blood Angels I am going to be painting. Its going to take a while so I thought I would listen to music while I work. The question is what kind of music is best to listen to when working? I was thinking it would be cool to make a thread where people can post not only what kind of music but also specific songs that they listen to when they paint and model.

Well i rarely listen to music while painting but if I do I listen to screamo( You guys probs think that stuff is absolutely gak!). I don't care I like that kind of music. The reason why I don't listen to it while painting that much is when I'm listening because it's heavy an all I can't keep my hand steady for high lighting and important stuff so only for basecoating and washing music is. Well for me anyway.

Depends on my mood really, kinda funny that every post has a style of music that I like. Hardcore, Post Hardcore, Dubstep (this is more for while I work, it's interesting enough to keep me motivated while not being distracting), Metal, Chris Whitley, Hip Hop. High on Fire.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Best kind of music to listen to is what you enjoy. It is merely a way to distract from the amount of time it takes so as to keep painting slightly longer.
I have about 500-600 songs I'd actually listen to so I just put it on random and let it go from there.
I'll put a cast of a Starcraft 2 MLG game on my iPad and just paint away quite happily. Music is good too, but it gets repetitive, and I just end up listening to one song and can't be bothered to skip Sometimes the Audiobooks are good too, but not often
Jazz is pretty good. So is spoken word, maybe some funk, although funk distracts me sometimes. Anything that makes you sing out loud is bad, I've found.
If you really have no life, listen to the Pokemon Red Battle track. Love dat' pokemon songs

lol weird, for some reason I like listening to Starcraft 2 MLG games as well. Something about it gets me in the gaming mood, but it doesn't distract me very much. Stranger too because I don't even like Starcraft 2.
I'd also suggest Red Alert 2 and Command and Conquer: Generals soundtracks. Those are awesome.

I would suggest some blues music, some good artists are SeasickSteve, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and Taj Mahal. Or sometimes I like to listen to some Jimi Hendrix.

it is almost irritating how many gamers listen to metal/hardcore/death metal music ONLY. I listen to death metal myself, but I have a far more diverse collection than SOLELY one style or sub style of music.
As to what I paint to, I generally have several playlists depending on the mood I'm in. Sometimes it's Lacuna Coil, others it's Cirque du Soleil, then it's Dream Theater, then it's Jazz, then it's 80's pop... and so on.

Frank Sinatra, Aerosmith, Tool, Rappy McRapperson (comical songs) and Harder Rock to name a few. Might even pick up my guitar for a jam break.. certainly helps motivation.

For a moment I thought Aerethan was going to suggest that we, as geeks, need not feel forced into a cultural niché wherein it is only tolerable to listen to metal (which is just as manufactured 'n' frankly samey 'n' crap as R&B) only for him to tar it with Death Metal
If I'm to make a serious post: I am just as much at home with Katy Perry as I am with Evanescence or Emily Autumn. It really depends on my mood. But no hipster-inclination or desire to declare myself a propagate of one niché at the expense of all others drives me to declare that I only listen to METUL.

For the Yanks/colonials/internationals Radio 5 live is kinda like an unbiased tabloid newspaper, so loads of celeb gossip, Current affairs, hilariously rascist/small minded listeners phoning in and loads of sport. It also has live commentaries of sporting events, if it's tennis or rugby i switch off.
Radio 4 is dry intellectual stuffy brit stuff. Basically a broadsheet newspaper. Its boring but you might learn something
For music i would recommend Mogwai (Scotland!), Pelican and a bit of Ghosts by NIN. Maybe some BSG soundtrack as well.
