Hello again dakka...it's been a while

Recently I opted to paint a friends model for free to hopefully show all you here on dakka that I can paint to a decent standard.

Unfortunately I've hit a small snag. I've been any good at highlighting, but have recently tried with some success, but I'm not sure how I would go about highlighting black or Dark angels green. Normally I find finding a highlight colour easy as I can just pick a lighter hue of said colour...bit difficult with black and with dark angels green there aren't any directly lighter colours.

So if anyone could help me by letting me know the correct colours to highlight both the black and the dark angels green It would be greatly appreciated.

The black is on most of the armour and the green is only on the shoulder pads

Thanks in advance to any and all who help,

LazzurusMan

You can highlight black with a very dark blue or a very dark grey. Dark Angels green is just a dark green so use a slightly lighter green to highlight. I suggest adding just a touch of Bonewhite to your Dark Angels Green as a highlight.

dark angels green is a VERY forgiving colour to highlight or blend. I tend to use add scorpion green to dark angels green to highlight, but as Todosi says, a bit of bleached bone will work fine.

Just be careful with black, its very easy to over do the highlights.

Generally just keep your paints thinish being careful to not put too much on the brush and use the side of the brush where possible to follow raised edges.

Unfortunately I have no bleached bone and can't get any as my hobby funds have run dry...cue me trying to get commissions for hobby funds XD

I will try the scorpion green, but how would I highlight the shoulder pads? I've Painted the rims gold and need to highlight the middle. If you need to know what model it is it's this one: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440271a&prodId=prod1050245

Thanks again guys

Anyone able to tell me how to highlight the inner bit of SM shoulder pads?

I'm not sure if a lighter green would work as a layer for dark angels :/

I'd stick to just highlighting edges if I were you, as soon as you start trying to blend to lighter colours on curved surfaces the difficulty level goes way way up.

What you could do is just run some black wash around where the shoulder pad meets the edge

I suppose that'll have to do XD

It's coming together pretty well now, once I've got my stuff ready for my week up north and my college interview I'll see if I can finish the grey highlights and the green and gold, then get a few pics up in the Showcase section

Thanks again to all of you, you've been a great help
