got myself a phantom titan yesterday. after much rejoicing at its arrival, and something my wife coined a "happy dance" i began the massive work project. i wont post silly pictures of the bags, or it all laid out in pieces, since its pretty much the same as what everyone else with one has done. i will however, post pictures of progress in building and painting the beast, and the various steps i took to convert it for use in my dark eldar army.
the model itself actually came pretty well made. a decent amount of flash and those "resin bricks" attached to the ends... but nothing a quick trim with a box cutter and a file couldn’t handle. my only disappointment was receiving 2 of the right "large holo fin" instead of a right and a left. unfortunately, this piece pretty much anchors then entire arm and shoulder in place. FW said they will send out the replacement part and it should be here "soon".
OK progress time!
since the entire pose depends on the legs, I'm starting there. the foot was a pain to figure out, but once i got it sorted what went where, it pieced together fairly well. the assembly for both was finished last night and i was able to attach the legs as well. (each leg is only 3 parts, upper, lower and knee) - also everything is ball + socket joint so it fits together nice. i also got the basic paint scheme fleshed out on the foot itself, since i wanted to see how the model would look when done. anyway pics!
decided to post some pics of my other prjoect - im calling it an "Enslaver lord". its a VDR design for use in normal or apoc games. have'nt sorted out its rules.... but yea. some pics
nothing to really convert on the feet for this one, although i did paint some dark eldar runes on them. i plan on using that idea across the whole model. only question im wondering is if the red and green is too "christmas-y" im currently working on the other foot in a similar scheme, but using ice blue instead of green on the lines.

changed the color scheme to a darker metallic, with blue joint lines. looks MUCH better. the black runes also look less colorful and present a darker feel to the model. pictures of the modified leg and knee area in a little bit.
on a side note.... 53 views and no replys? wow...

I think I like the blue, But you should use a spray undercoat, if you aren't already.

i am. my camera kind of sucks so i either get nasty flash glare or poor lighting. but the basic metallic of the model is sprayed black, then brushed black, and finally finished with a 50/50 chaos black / boltgun with pure boltgun edge highlights.

yea ive never really painted gems before, although the concept should be fairly simple to grasp. however since its going to be a dark eldar titan, im trimming most of the larger gems off, or covering them with spikey bits etc

Lurve that DE walker fella! It has a really menacing and deadly look about it. Perfect amount of spikes also!

ty. i have rules for it in beta testing... but basicly its a archon that got killed and regrown wrong. now its a massivly powerful MC that generates and feeds off pain. plus it has 3 pretty good ranged weapons, a jump pack and a 3+ version of the shadow field.

did some more work on the leg, focusing on the knee area. added a bunch of gubbins from the raider/venom kits. still some touch ups and final highlights to do, mainly with the vines but im probally just going paint and leave them black with some grey highlight. with the leg fin, i wanted to provide a source of the titans holo fields, so went with a blue theme with black lightning - to keep with the DE theme.

after a week and a half of waiting for a replacment shoulder, ive managed to actually put in about 12 hours of work on this beast. managed to get the legs completed, including all the spikey bits/chains to 'darken' it up. the torso is also finished, and currently spray primed. i pan on painting more and posting pics of the painting process soon, in the mean time, some shots of the legs.
the loin cloth is made of greenstuff, and decorated up with whatever extra pieces of poles chains or other items from raider kits and so on. i plan on recording its battle history on the loin cloth, so its deleberatly left blank on most of it, save for its "inaugaration" script. the runes on the legs are imspired from the 1st DE codex, and i tried to go with a dragon motif in other areas.
i am also working on the CCW arm and should have that done shortly as well. should more pics of the weapon arm and head up later today or tomorrow.

midterms in full swing, so less attention to blog then i would have liked. anyway some mor epainting progress done. ive managed to do most of all the CCW, torso and head. all that really remains is some detial and touch up work on the sword and torso, about half the back fins, then figuring out how to magnetize and pin some stuff to make swapping weapons and transport easier.
