Not where I should be

Thank you all so much, really appreciate the comments and the views.

Sorry been a bit quiet. Still in the dark place here, but got to get going. Friend has asked me to make him a model, intention might be to make a few, but will see how this goes. Not quite wargaming but might make a few 40k style for some of the great guys here abouts who would appreciate them. OK so here we go.

This is a reference pic of the actual thing....

And here is a brilliant model made in tin by a previous gent...

And here is a couple hours work on getting started...

Had to make an engine so made a mold for future offerings..

Thank you all for looking and all C&C as always is most welcome.

Will you even be able to see the engine? Looking forward to see how you do the wheels. (And the rest obviously.)

That is a hell of a year in the hobby - work to be proud of! I had missed snikrot and the ork storage bins - those are great. The tank factory is really impressive finished. My brief commission tenure ended on a low note - my advice is to be sure to charge what your amazing stuff is worth strait up. My notion that I was going to produce good stuff for a great price ended badly, because really many people in the commission terrain market aren't looking for "good", even if the price is very reasonable. And don't take calls after 9 Pm, your time! Good luck with it.

Thanks folks, great to hear from you all.

@ Arakasi, Engine will be visible in this case as I will be making the hood a working part. And see below for wheels...

First I make a rough ring in plasticine (actually bought some fancy "no sulphur" stuff here

And as you can see added a hub and spokes in styrene tube...

This is the master after I did mold. yes the master ended up destroyed.

And a nice silicone mold so I can make plenty of wheels.

And the result...

Couple of the lights cast as well.

And a quick look to see how I am for size..

Not bad, by the time I add the rubber for the tyres will be spot on.

As a quick side note, here is Dads advise and hobby supplies being put to good use for my daughters college project....

Thanks for looking and hope that helps with the wheel thing, and of course if any one wants some wheels just ask, can make them pretty much any size.

That almost looks like wagon wheels .

Nice work on the fire engine engine . Your daughters project looks pretty cool, is that trek trunk bits in the corner I see?

I should have guessed.
Camkierhi wrote:First I make a rough ring in plasticine. And as you can see added a hub and spokes in styrene tube...
I feel I am missing a step here - what is the material of the wheel (not the hub and spokes) at this point, and how did you get from "a rough ring in plasticine" to it?
Camkierhi wrote:Not bad, by the time I add the rubber for the tyres will be spot on.
Appears to be missing some spokes? Looking forward to seeing what you do for the rubber tyres.

I'm feeling an itch to try my hand at molds again / for the first time...

Absolutely no harm done - I'm glad to be back!

Not where I should be

Thanks folks.

@Gits, comes with age they say.
@ Vik, Sulpher free cus some silicone and resins react with sulphur based products, (such as standard Plasticine) And she is doing Art and Design and is currently in final year of college and going hopefully to University next year. All looking good at the moment, that particular piece is very much WIP, it will be hung up but will be a rock pool scene, so looking at lots of resin and added effects for the finished piece. This is obviously all her own work, I am resisting the urge to help well, but she is very happy I am a modeller and have an extensive supply of materials.
@ Theo, could have a go at knocking up some 28mm scale wagon wheels for you if you want, easy enough now i have the process down. Whats a trek trunk?
@ Arakasi, Sorry bud, by making a negative in the Plasticine, I then poured 2 part resin in, it gives you a rough cast, but is easy enough to clean up then added the styrene details, and then made the mold to pour silicone in, again to make that mold I used the Plasticine. Once I had a silicone mold, I then cast the whole unit in 2 part resin, giving me the end product. Which has a nice cast iron feel to it, is very strong and solid, except against twisting force. Another words if it rolls it is fine, I can drop it from desk height fine, but if I get hold of it and twist it, it breaks. More molding below so see if that helps. Oh and the number of spokes, the actual vehicle has six spokes but the model made previously had a lot more, not sure why.

So bit more progress on details.

Engine in and initial paint job done...

And here is a reference shot for comparison.

And worked on the rear pump area a bit...
Original styrene "masters".

Then after I made a mold this is the first resin cast...broke a little bit getting it out of the mold, but not an issue..

And then stuck in place and repaired..

And again here is a reference shot for the back end.

Thanks for looking in folks, please ask away.

Great work on the rest of the gadgets/nozzles.

Trek trunks must prove I’m more of a Star Trek fan than a Star Wars fan since my autocorrect changed tree-trek .

Indeed, your daughter is greatly benefiting from your views, rescources and understanding... That is often not happening fir young artists with their parents... I am hoping for my son Felix to develop himself one future day in a similar way... Then all my medling with glue and stuff would have a higher justification...

Also...question time.... Did your friend allow you some beans as to why he needs maybe more than just one firefighter car? Whars he up to???

So much awesome stuff!
Personal favourite is the haulers - top job on them, and always great to see the 'reality' aspect of the 30k/40k universe in model form.

Not where I should be

Thank you all so much, and thanks for your patience. I am all over the place at the moment, but will get settled in a bit.

et all ..seriously thank you for the comments, really means a lot.

@ Vik, might sell some for charity type thing, though I am trying to be a bit cautious on that one, not sure haw many I want to make, even if I do get the fiddly bits cast-able. Also really not sure about someone buying it as a toy. Not intended for that purpose obviously, but people!!

OK trying to get the juices flowing and getting my son a bit distracted from ranting at online xboxing, had a go at another of his Tau, while he works on other Tau...

Again he got this ages ago, and stuck it all together before painting it, so it is a pitta to paint now, still a bit WIP, not happy with the finish at the moment, it is like I can't decide between clean and dirty, just looks a mess, even the pics are crap. But here you go...

And another distraction...so I can't remember if I mentioned I got my mits on a ultrasonic cleaner, well thought I would have a play...
Just 10 minutes of treatment...

And a little later..

And a little later still...

While I was waiting between times did a bit of work on one of them, still WIP....

Thank you so much for looking in , and please feel free to comment.

Weathered Tau is always a cool sight!
Is your son playing fortnite per chance? My son does...and its like he switches to a whole different persona while playing....so aggressive and loud...otherwise he way calmer and in general a nice person...but there... I wish i could drag him away from this scene..

These cars are matchbox sized, right? Awesome results, in cleaning them and redoing them too!
